OceanGate will declare bankruptcy and they will be embroiled in lawsuits from the passenger’s families & estates for years. The families & estates will get almost nothing unless there are somehow large insurance policies which is highly doubtful given the high-risk nature of the dive, plus they all signed multiple explicit waivers. If negligence can be proved then it may negate the waivers, but there will still be the imminent bankruptcy filing. Can’t get nothing from nothing. the US Federal Government will be last in line & will never recover one cent. We, the taxpayers will foot the bill for the rescue operation for obscenely rich people with extremely poor judgment. Welcome to socialism that subsidizes the very wealthy - funny how it only works for them. Even when they’re dead.

there’s the problem - meeting unknown people online & bringing them into your home, depends on them being “normal”, observing norms & being able to interpret social cues when it’s over. Many aren’t normal - drug addicts, thieves, homeless?, otherwise unstable people among some other “normal” guys. Many are experts at portraying normal online until somethings goes awry in the encounter. The odds are relatively good you’re gonna have problems at some point. Are they really gonna leave when landing in a plush spot with a nice guy host ? NO I’ve been there years ago as the person that can’t get them out. Then there’s the stalking, I’ve had some show up unannounced at my home. And countless others continue unwanted texting until the only choice was to block. In sharp contrast, I’ve never had a provider overstay unless there was a clear invitation by me. Never been stalked by a provider either. In short, I’d rather pay because it’s a cleaner deal and I’d rather not play the odds with crazy. In theory, I could get crazy w a provider, it’s just never happened. A few less than satisfactory experiences but never crazy where they wouldn’t leave or there was stalking. I’ll take those odds.

I don’t agree at all - 5 people decided to go on a very risky undersea adventure & it will cost tens of millions in total costs to our government. and this isn’t a unique situation - our government spends tons of money getting people out of situations they shouldn’t be in to begin with. Remember the kid held hostage in North Korea ? And the hikers in Iran ? It goes on and on and on. Our government has finite resources and those resources should not be spent on people putting themselves into high risk situations which require government rescue. The price for the submarine adventure needs to include insurance to pay for all the rescue costs if something happens. The US government will never recover these costs. Not going to happen.
