bigvalboy
While in a LTR relationship with a woman, I got to know the guy who owned the local auto body repair shop very well. Not expensive enough to claim on insurance, but bad enough to be fixed. He jokingly suggested setting aside money each month for the inevitable repairs. Two years ago my sister bought a new Mercedes S class sedan. Big money but has all the bells and whistles, including warning alarms when you come too close to an object. A few weeks in, I dropped by the house, and noticed that the entire front of the car was badly scrapped with one of the DLR lights ripped from their mounting. She came out and saw me starring at the car. Me: "What the Hell happened?" Her: "I hit a chain link fence when I was turning around." Me: "Doesn't the car have a warning system to let you know when you're too close to objects?" Her: "Well yes" Me: ( Beginning to chuckle)"So once again, what the Hell happened?" Her: (Walking away) "I don't know?" Yes purely anecdotal...and hardly supports my point, but still.... samhexum
Semi-truck destroys historic bridge in Indiana Tuesday, December 29, 2015 A 2015 Volvo Semi Truck filled with 43,000 pounds of bottled water destroyed a small bridge in Paoli, Indiana that dates back to 1880. The staggering part is that signs before the bridge said that the weight limit was 6 tons and that semis were not allowed on the bridge. According to police reports the driver, Mary Lambright, was unaware that her vehicle was more than 6 tons because she couldn't convert to pounds. (@&*#ing female mathematicians!) All told she was off by about 24 tons, her truck weighed in at 30. More than that, the 53 foot box trailer didn't even clear the top of the bridge. She ended up at the bridge mouth after making a wrong turn en route to a Wal Mart parking lot where she had a stop off planned. Being uncomfortable in reverse after getting her CDL license earlier this year, she tried her chances on the bridge. As the pictures show, that decision was regrettable to say the least. Lambright will be subject to a fine of $135 for "reckless operation of Tractor-Trailer" and "disregarding a traffic control device" but the main culpability will be with her company. No one was injured in the incident which took place around noon on Christmas Day. http://assets.nydailynews.com/polopoly_fs/1.2479857.1451414986!/img/httpImage/image.jpg_gen/derivatives/article_750/1266851-761761923929493-3034932991606087751-o.jpg http://assets.nydailynews.com/polopoly_fs/1.2479908.1451416892!/img/httpImage/image.jpg_gen/derivatives/article_750/856365-761761640596188-5442225229494425105-o.jpg bigvalboy
samhexum
10-year-old girl crashes truck into a family's home, says she wanted to 'kill people' A 10-year-old girl reportedly told police that she purposely crashed a truck into a Louisville family's home because she wanted to "kill people." Joshua Pate told WDRB that he had just gotten home Friday afternoon when he heard what sounded like a bomb going off. Sitting in the middle of the family's living room was a pick-up truck. Behind the wheel was a 10-year-old girl, police said. Pate said five children were in the living room when the crash happened, but they were not injured. "The loveseat slid around and made kind of like a barrier," he told the outlet. "The back of (the loveseat) is kind of high and I think the kids just slid with the loveseat." "Everybody was in shock," Pate added. "Everybody's still in shock." Pate told WDRB that he heard the young driver talking with police after the crash, and she reportedly said she rammed the vehicle into the home on purpose. "(The officer) couldn't believe what she said. He was like, 'Excuse me?' and she said, 'I wanted to kill people,' and he said, 'I'm sorry,' what did you say?' and she said, 'I wanted to kill people,'" Pate told the outlet. Kristina Bryan was driving near the home seconds before the crash when the 10-year-old slammed into her vehicle and then smashed into the house. Bryan told the outlet her car is totaled. "Where was the parents when this little girl even got into the car? How did this little girl even get access to the keys?'" Bryan said. Louisville police reportedly told WAVE that the child got a hold of a family member's keys and took the truck. Pate, who is renting the home, said his family will be displaced for at least a month as the house is fixed. The Red Cross has stepped in to help the family. Pate and Bryan said they are considering taking legal action against the girl's family. "All I want is an apology from the family," he said. "We haven't heard from them and haven't heard from anybody." Police are still investigating and no charges have been filed as of yet. http://assets.nydailynews.com/polopoly_fs/1.3660754.1511816152!/img/httpImage/image.jpg_gen/derivatives/article_750/article-truckcrash-1121.jpg
