Does the policy “you break it, you buy it” apply to new cars?

Or buildings?

A woman in China may be finding out the answer after she ended her test drive of a new BMW X1 SUV by crashing into the dealership that she borrowed it from.

Security camera footage of the incident from last week shows the vehicle smashing into the glass doors of the Guangzhou showroom, pausing for a second, then accelerating into the counter as staff and customers jump out of the way.

According to Shanghaist, the woman later admitted that she’d accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake.

No one was injured in the crash, but it is not known how much of the damages she is being held responsible for.

Texas man shot at female drivers because he found them 'incompetent'

A Texas man who fired shots at multiple female drivers was arrested last week, with investigators claiming the road rage was sparked by his belief that women drivers are “incompetent.”

Nicholas D’Agostino was arrested Thursday for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon just one day after he was released from jail, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said.

D’Agostino was previously cuffed July 19 on the same charges in connection with a July 10 shooting in Harris County.

The 29-year-old fired a .45 caliber handgun unprovoked at a woman driving an SUV near his home in Katy, Tex., according to court documents.

The woman survived, but suffered “serious bodily injury.”

During questioning, D’Agostino admitted that he’d shot at women behind the wheel approximately five other times.

Based on that confession, Harris County Sheriff's Office investigator Dennis Palmer was able to connect the dots and link D’Agostino to another shooting on March 7, in which a woman was shot outside a gas station in Katy.

The woman said she was driving her SUV back onto the road when she heard a loud noise and felt a pain in her arm, only realizing later that she’d been shot. She noted that she observed a man in an old green SUV driving by, and said he seemed to be peeking into her car to see if he’d hit her.

Palmer noted that D’Agostino was driving a green 1996 Ford Explorer when he shot the woman in July, and that both women happened to be driving near his home in similar-looking vehicles.

Palmer also said in court documents that D’Agostino’s social media raised several red flags as to his “dim view” of women, including rants about “incompetent” female drivers, and how a woman’s sole purpose is to “give birth to male children.”

The documents claim that D’Agostino admitted he’d shot the woman in July, but claimed it was self-defense and that she had “purposefully” swerved at him.

In a statement to BuzzFeed News, D’Agostino’s attorney claimed there were “a lot of assumptions” being made about his client, and that there was no evidence he hated women.

"You can't take something on Facebook and introduce it into a court of law," he said. "That's not fair. What if you went out to a party and did bad things and it was on your Facebook, and that was used in court against you? It's unfair the way he has been treated."

D’Agostino is being held on a $250,000 bond.

One sluggish driver caused a massive backup on the Bayonne Bridge on Thursday afternoon that caused the bridge to shut down for several hours, officials said on Friday.

The driver was going so slow in the snow that it took cops half an hour to guide her across the bridge.

Meanwhile, workers couldn’t clear the snow and ice piled up on the bridge, creating perilous conditions for everyone else on the connector.

“It took about 30 minutes, and while all this was happening, there was heavy snow and maintenance trucks couldn’t continue snow operations,” said Port Authority spokesman Steve Coleman. “That’s why we had people stuck on the crossing and had to get vehicles off the bridge to clean it and make it safe.”

The bridge was closed from about 3 p.m. until after 8 p.m.

A teenager allegedly participating in the "'Bird Box' Challenge" caused a two-car accident when she attempted to drive while her eyes were covered, police say.

A 17-year-old girl was driving on the Layton Parkway just before 5 p.m. Monday when she allegedly decided to pull her beanie hat over her eyes and continue driving, said Layton Police Lt. Travis Lyman.

"It didn't take long for her to lose control," he said.

The girl, traveling about 35 mph, began to swerve back and forth, eventually overcorrecting, and went into oncoming traffic where she sideswiped another vehicle on the driver's side, Lyman said. The impact from that crash spun the girl's pickup truck into a light pole and a concrete barrier.

The challenge was created on social media after the Netflix movie "Bird Box" was released. In the movie, Sandra Bullock's character is forced to do many activities while blindfolded, including running through a forest and taking a boat on a lake.

Similar to the dangerous "In My Feelings" car challenge and the Tide Pod eating challenge, the "Bird Box" Challenge became the latest internet craze that even officials at Netflix have publicly tried to discourage. People participating in the challenge attempt to do activities while blindfolded.

Neither the man in the car that was hit in Layton, nor the teenage driver or her 16-year-old male passenger were injured.

The incident has police shaking their heads in disbelief.

"It's just outrageous that somebody would think to do that. This one, luckily, didn't end in any injuries but easily could have. The stakes are just way too high to do something like that while you're driving," Lyman said.

When Layton police first investigated Monday's crash, they weren't sure what caused the accident.

"Initially we were told she was just talking to her passenger and got distracted," Lyman said.

But the driver who was hit wasn't convinced. Lyman said the driver decided to do some of his own detective work.

"He just could not understand why her car was doing what it was doing," he said. "It was actually through some help and work on the other driver's part to try and make sense of why she was driving the way she was based on what he had seen (that the challenge came out)."

The driver talked to someone who had overheard what the teen girl was really doing. After passing that information along to police, detectives reinterviewed the girl and she admitted she had tried the challenge, Lyman said.

Police are expected to hand the case over to prosecutors to be screened for a potential charge of reckless driving.

A Connecticut woman was busted this week for getting behind the wheel under the influence of pure vanilla extract, police said.

Someone called the cops around 4:45 p.m. Wednesday to report that a woman was slumped in the driver’s seat of a car stopped at Grove and Pine streets in New Canaan with her eyes closed, according to local authorities.

When police arrived, they found Stefanie Warner-Grise, 50, inside the car.

“Upon speaking with Warner-Grise, officers detected an odor of vanilla coming from her breath, her speech was slurred and she was unable to answer basic questions,” cops said in a statement.

“In addition, several bottles of pure vanilla extract were located inside the vehicle.”

Warner-Grise was taken into custody after she failed sobriety tests, police said.

She refused to allow police to measure her blood-alcohol level, and was ordered held on $250 bond.

Vanilla extract must contain no less than 35 percent ethyl alcohol by volume, making it 70 proof, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

The popular McCormick brand of vanilla extract is 41 percent alcohol, or 82 proof.

The alcohol is normally burned away in the cooking process, but ingesting the vanilla extract directly can have a similar effect to drinking hard liquor, according to Medical Daily.

United may 'fly the friendly skies', but Delta Airlines flies the family skies as one passenger discovered during a recent trip.

Dr. John R. Watret was flying from Los Angeles to Atlanta on March 16 when he learned that the flight's pilots were actually a mother-daughter team, Captain Wendy Rexon and her daughter, First Officer Kelly Rexon.

Watret, the chancellor of the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Worldwide Campus, stopped by the cockpit to snap a picture of the two women and then posted it on Twitter.

BBV6YHB.img

'Just flew from LAX to ATL on Delta piloted by this mother daughter flight crew. Great flight. Inspiring for you women,' Watret tweeted, later clarifying a typo and noting that he meant to write that it was inspiring for 'young' women.

Overnight, the tweet went viral, garnering more than 42,000 likes and 16,000 retweets, along with plenty of comments from people who were tickled by the notion of a parent flying a plane alongside their sprog.

The official Delta Twitter account weighed in, too, tweeting, 'Family flight crew goals!'

One proud papa plane captain, tweeting as rocarasa, was even inspired to post a photo of himself sitting in the cockpit next to his lookalike pilot son.

Along with the praise, there were predictably plenty of wisecracks about the unusual situation.

'That is just the most amazing, wonderful news ever - seriously. My mother and I would never have flown together as crew. We couldn't even agree on having the radio on/off in the car,' tweeted SharonDunn54.

'That's pretty cool.....question is, was mother holding on to the sides of her seat for dear life when daughter was at the controls? That's what my parents do when I'm driving anyway.....' wondered bodz156.

'Mom: "Did you check the flaps? You should know better, young lady" Daughter: "I know Mom, I know! You're always telling me what to do,"' joked B_Kelley_.

Wetret told the Embry-Riddle Newsroom that he learned that his flight crew were a family affair after overhearing a mom asking a flight attendant if her two children could go look at the flight deck.

'The flight attendant said they could – and that they would be surprised,' Watret recalled.

When the family returned to their seats, Watret said he overheard them talking about the 'mother and daughter' who were flying the plane, which he thought was 'amazing,' prompting him to ask if he could go visit the flight deck, too.

Piloting is a major inheritable trait in the Rexon family, apparently.

Yahoo Canada Style reported that Wendy Rexon's father, Bill Brown, is a retired Northwest Airlines pilot.

Wendy's husband, Michael Rexon, is currently an American Airlines pilot. Their other daughter, Kate, is also a pilot.

A Woman Totaled Her Car After Seeing A Spider While Driving

The driver injured her leg as a result. The spider’s current whereabouts are unknown.

A woman crashed her car Wednesday after she saw a spider, police in Cairo, New York, said.

After noticing the spider in the front seat, the unidentified woman “panicked and crashed,” police said.

She suffered a leg injury and totaled the vehicle as a result.

Police posted photos of the crash on Facebook as a warning to arachnophobic drivers.

“We know that it is easier for some drivers than others,” police said. “But PLEASE, try to teach new drivers and yourselves to overcome the fear and pull over to a safe place.”

“Lives depend on it,” the post said.

People commenting on the police department’s Facebook post empathized with the woman and some shared their own horror stories of finding eight-legged hitchhikers in their cars.

“For safety measures should probably burn the car too,” one person commented. “Just to make sure it’s really dead.”

A DUI suspect driving in a stolen RV with two dogs on her lap led police on a dangerous high-speed chase through the San Fernando Valley Tuesday night.

The recreational vehicle smashed into at least six other cars during the chase, shredding the side of the vehicle's passenger side open.

In the middle of the chase, one of the dogs jumped out through the smashed front windshield and ran off as she continued driving.

It finally ended when the RV collided into a car in Tarzana and the woman jumped out and fled on foot. Officers quickly tackled her and took her into custody as she was trying to jump the fence of a home in the neighborhood.

The wild ending to the chase stunned neighbors of the quiet neighborhood.

"These streets are narrow," said Tarzana resident Craig Friedman. "Sure, she was just evading police, but my God, you gotta stop. You know you're gonna get caught."

The chase started around 7 p.m. in the Santa Clarita area for failure to yield, according to the California Highway Patrol.

AIR7 HD was over the pursuit as the suspect struck a palm tree in a shopping center before continuing. The front end and passenger's side of the RV had significant damage, with the windshield smashed in and the door missing.

At several points, the woman was driving up to 60 mph on surface streets. The driver also smashed into several vehicles, including a sedan in an intersection.

The man who was in that vehicle suffered six broken ribs and a punctured lung and was being treated at a local hospital.

Authorities were able to recover the first dog that jumped out of the vehicle. An animal control officer was able to loop the second dog, which appeared to be injured, at the scene. It was leaving bloody paw prints behind as it stayed by the woman's side.

The dog was being checked by a veterinarian.

The driver crashed into a white Hyundai sedan in Tarzana and fled on foot with the second dog for a short time before being taken into custody around 7:30 p.m. near Tampa Avenue and Wells Street.

Two people inside the Hyundai were injured.

The suspect, described as a woman in her 40s, also suffered unknown injuries and was treated by first responders at the scene.

She is expected to face charges that include driving under the influence, felony evading and felony hit-and-run.

Why pay for a car wash when you can crash into a river for free?

A New Jersey driver left a car wash on Tuesday — and plunged straight into the Hackensack River when she pressed on the gas pedal instead of the break, the Hackensack Fire Department said.

Footage of the splashy incident shows the white Mercedes SUV exiting the auto wash around noon and nosediving into the river.

The driver, and a female passenger, were able to escape from the vehicle, officials said.

One of them was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center with minor injuries, according to NorthJersey.com.

Officials were able to pull the car from the river at around 1:30 p.m.

A Florida teen learning to drive accidentally mowed down her dad — as he was teaching her to park his pickup truck, according to a report.

Tarpon Springs police said the 15-year-old’s dad got out of his Ford F-150 to let her practice pulling it into a parking space Tuesday in an empty lot, news station WTVT reported.

But as he stood in front, the girl “unintentionally” hit the accelerator while the vehicle was still in drive, police said.

The truck then jolted forward over a curb and struck the man before hitting a tree, authorities said.

When police arrived, the girl was attempting to provide aid to her father, who later died of his injuries, the outlet reported.

Their names haven’t been released and the crash remains under investigation.

‘Soccer mom’ caught on camera using power saw to break into Botox clinic

August 28, 2019

A Mercedes-Benz-driving “soccer mom” used a power saw to break into a Botox clinic in Texas and rip off anti-aging products, authorities said.

The woman, who cops say is between 35 and 45 years old, can be seen in surveillance video provided by the Sugar Land Police Department tugging on the glass door of the Botox RN MD Spa around 8:25 p.m. Friday.

She walks away, then is shown driving a light-colored Mercedes SUV closer to the business and getting out with the saw.

She grinds away at the door until she manages to slip in through a hole she created.

Alonso Perez, the spa owner, told local outlet KTRK that he was shocked to see the video.

“Looks like the average soccer mom in a Mercedes trying to break into your business,” he said. “Had no regard for anybody else’s property. Had no regard for her own safety. I mean by doing what she was doing with the power tool to a window.”

Someone had just broken into the spa the night before, and one window was already boarded up with plywood, Perez told the outlet.

“Nobody should go through this, you know?” he said. “I mean, it is not normal for a human being to try and take somebody else’s stuff … that they work hard for.”

The thief remains at large — and cops are working to identify her. She was last seen wearing a light-colored top with dark pants, police said in a statement. Her Mercedes did not have a front license plate.

Perez told the outlet he’s personally offering a $5,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest.

Home destroyed, at least 7 damaged in explosion that shakes London, Ont., neighbourhood

Police believe explosion caused by ruptured gas line, 1 woman charged with impaired driving

Aug 15, 2019

At least seven houses were damaged and seven people were sent to hospital in London, Ont., after a vehicle drove into a house in the city's east end Wednesday night, damaging a gas meter and setting off an explosion that set fire to nearby homes.

Police were called to a house on Woodman Avenue near Queens Avenue at about 10:40 p.m. ET to reports that a vehicle driving the wrong way on Queens Avenue had struck a house.

About 15 minutes after the driver of the car was arrested, the house exploded.

Daniella Alexandra Leis, 23, of Kitchener, Ont., has been charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm and driving above the legal limit. She is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 4.

Acting Deputy Fire Chief Jack Burt said crews were dealing with multiple structure fires overnight and 100 homes were evacuated. He said the home that exploded was reduced to rubble and at least seven others have significant damage.

"We also have a significant debris field from an explosion that actually goes over more than a block area at this point," he said.

Burt said more than 50 firefighters were at the scene at the height of the fire.

Here's a breakdown of injuries from the fire:

  • Four firefighters were hurt. Three have since been released from hospital and one remains in hospital in serious but stable condition.
  • Two police officers were also taken to hospital, but have since been released.
  • A civilian was taken to hospital, treated for minor injuries and released.

Neighbours quickly came together following the explosion, offering a place to sleep for those told to leave their homes. Others were circulating with water and coffee.

"I could see sparks exploding over the trees," said Joanne Bishop, a resident in the area. "These are our friends and neighbours, so I think people are scared right now."

"There's debris everywhere, windows are shattered. We watched the roof fly higher than the trees on the street. The sound was extremely loud. You could feel the explosion go right through you," said witness Krystina Curtis.

Approximately 100 homes on Quebec Street, Woodman Avenue and Charlotte Street, between Lorne Avenue and Dundas Street, were evacuated, and the area cordoned off for investigation.

With so many people unable to go home, the City of London arranged for hotel rooms for dozens of families. By Thursday evening, all but 12 of the evacuated homes were deemed safe and people were allowed to go home.

"In my 20 years in the fire service, I've never seen an event of this nature," said Burt.

He said the home where the explosion occurred has been "reduced to rubble" and nearby homes have extensive damage. Burt said it was fortunate the area was evacuated when the gas leak was first detected or "this could have been a very different story."

A woman is in custody after allegedly stealing a mail truck in Brooklyn and slamming it into at least 10 parked cars Friday night.

Shocking video of the car carnage shows the driver repeatedly accelerating and reversing into the vehicles around her — including a police car — as she’s surrounded by screaming NYPD officers.

The postal panic began just after 6 p.m. on Fulton Street and Patchen Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant, police sources say.

That’s where a 21-year-old woman got behind the wheel of an unoccupied Postal Service truck and took it on a reckless joyride that lasted seven blocks, sources alleged.

When the mail truck gave out at Fulton and Troop Avenue, she tried to flee on foot but was quickly taken into custody, sources say.

Miraculously, no one was hurt in the suspect’s terrifying express ride, but more than 10 parked cars were damaged.

Charges are pending against the young woman, and her identity has not been released.

13-year-old California girl steals mom’s car, fatally strikes two men

A 13-year-old California girl fatally struck two men after taking off with her mother’s car, authorities said.

The girl from Vista was stopped Friday night, but sped away when an officer approached her car, Escondido police said.

“What the officer didn’t know at the time, is that the car was being driven by a 13-year-old girl from Vista who took her mom’s car without her knowing,” Lt. Kevin Toth told Fox5 San Diego.

The teen then lost control and crashed into the bushes, where two men were sleeping, authorities said.

Police said they believe both of the men were homeless.

One was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other died at a hospital, cops said.

The girl and a friend, who had been a passenger, were arrested and later released to their parents, police said. It’s unclear whether they will face any charges.

A woman driving on a Florida interstate swerved to dodge a couch that fell off a truck, and received a $166 ticket from state troopers while lying on a hospital bed after crashing.

Jake Singer and his girlfriend, who asked not to be identified, were driving home to Washington, D.C., on Feb. 20 after visiting family in Boca Raton, they told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. They made it about 90 miles north on I-95 when a couch fell out of a truck directly in front of them.

Singer’s girlfriend swerved to avoid the couch, and the couple’s car slammed into a median, according to the Sun-Sentinel. It flipped over, but Singer and his girlfriend escaped without serious injuries.

“People were hugging us and freaking out,” Singer told the Sun-Sentinel. “The fact we were standing there, nobody could believe it, including us.”

No other vehicles were involved, and the truck carrying the couch continued driving as if nothing happened.

The couple were both rushed to a hospital, but they soon had an uninvited guest: a Florida Highway Patrol trooper, the Sun-Sentinel reported. Trooper Eric Flint handed them a $166 ticket for “failing to drive in a single lane.”

“He gave us a ticket for basically swerving lanes while trying to avoid a couch that was flying at us on the highway,” Singer told the paper. “We got so pissed.”

But a Florida Highway Patrol spokesman said the couple should’ve been further behind the truck to give themselves time to safely drive around any flying couches.

“You have to look at the totality of the circumstances,” trooper Yanko Reyes told the Sun-Sentinel. “Remember, in Florida it is recommended to have at least a two-vehicle length between your vehicle and the vehicles in front of you because that way you have enough time to react in case something like this happens.”

A California woman allegedly ran over a man on purpose in a bid to save a cat she thought he was trying to kill. Maybe she just has an affinity for pussy.

Hannah Star Esser, 20, faces murder charges after Luis Anthony Victor, 40, died as a result of his injuries following the Sept. 25 incident. I had a 14 year old friend who was killed by a drunk driver on that date in 1979.

According to authorities, Esser got out of her vehicle, yelled a profanity at Victor RUDE! and accused him of trying to run over the cat in Cypress, Calif. Maybe he thought he was committing a mercy killing because the cat would be better off dead than living in Cypress, Calif.

Victor tried to speak to Esser, but she got back into her vehicle, made a three-point turn and drove towards Victor.

Prosecutors at the Orange County District Attorney’s Office claim Esser then intentionally accelerated directly into Victor so hard he was launched into the air.

Kimberly Edds, spokesperson for the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, said Esser may have inadvertently framed herself by recording her confrontation with Victor on her cell phone.

“The circumstances leading up to the confrontation are still under investigation,” Edds told The Post.

If convicted, Esser faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.  She is scheduled to appear in court for her arraignment on Oct. 13. She remains in Orange County jail in lieu of $1 million bail.

It is unclear what happened to the cat at the center of the altercation. It is probably napping or coughing up a hairball somewhere.

A UK teen is being mocked mercilessly online after plunging her car into a river — right after nearly acing her driver’s test. A video detailing the car-tastrophe racked up 2 million views on TikTok before being taken down.

“Just because you’ve passed your driving test well, it doesn’t mean you are an amazing driver,” Leia Darnell, 18, said of the fiasco.

The Oxford native had reportedly been “over the moon” to take her Volkswagen Polo for a spin after passing her driving test two months ago with only one minor fault, per the clip. After visiting a fireworks show with her boyfriend, the teen drove home during dark and rainy weather. And since nothing bad ever happens on a dark and stormy night...

Disaster struck after Darnell lost control of the car while going around a sharp curve and ended up in the water.

“We launched over the river bank, all I remembered seeing at this point was trees in front of us,” the petrified driver described. “We then landed in water. I was so shocked and scared I didn’t even realize until my boyfriend shouted that the car was in water.”

Things grew dire after “the car started rapidly filling up” with water, according to Darnell, who tried to open the door, to no avail. “I remember us both looking at each other and thinking that was it,” she recounted.

Just when they thought their fate was sealed, she finally “managed” to kick the door open and swim to safety. “We escaped as the water was up to our necks, we swam out the car, leaving all personal belongings behind and climbed up the riverbank to get help,” Darnell recalled. She subsequently called the police, who informed them the situation would be a lot more dangerous had the car flipped over in the current.

In the aforementioned TikTok clip, the new motorist can be seen proudly displaying her driving certificate and at the wheel of her new whip, which she reportedly purchased in January 2022.

The camera then cuts to the Volkswagen submerged in the water as the caption “FML” flashes across the screen. The clip concludes with the boyfriend retrieving their belongings in a wetsuit and goggles, after which rescuers use a crane to extract the car from the drink.

I'm surprised she could see anything with caterpillars on her eyelids

Darnell whiffed it on a sharp bend and ended up in the water.

A Canadian woman who caused $10 million in damages after driving drunk, crashing into a house and causing an explosion is now suing the concert venue that provided her alcoholic beverages — as she claims the owners are to blame.

The “car bomb” fiasco occurred in August 2019 while Daniella Leis, 26, was driving home from a Marilyn Manson concert at the Budweiser Gardens arena in London, Ontario, the CBC reported.

After drinking at the show and getting behind the wheel, Leis crashed her Ford Fusion — registered to her father — into a brick home at 450 Woodman Ave., rupturing a gas line and triggering a massive explosion that destroyed four houses and injured seven people.

Falling embers led to blazes in several homes nearby — and the entire neighborhood had to be evacuated, with gas and water service shut off in the area. All told, the blast reportedly caused damages in the neighborhood of $9.8 million to $14.7 million.

“The financial impact of Ms. Leis’ actions have been enormous, with a total damage estimate approaching $15 million,” Judge George Orsini told the court.

Meanwhile, victims included two police officers and two firefighters who suffered numerous injuries, with one firefighter forced to spend more than a week in a hospital before being discharged.

Leis subsequently pled guilty to four counts of impaired driving, and was was slapped with a three-year prison sentence in 2021.

However, the Canuck wasn’t about to throw away her shot at easing the financial strain.

This month, she and father Shawn Leis filed a lawsuit against Ovations Ontario Food Services, the company that distributed the hooch. They claim that the libations purveyor shares liability for the blast on the grounds that staffers “ejected Leis from the venue while failing to take steps to ensure she would not drive home,” according to the legal documents.

In addition, Leis also alleged that Ovations had served her alcohol while aware that the bargoer was intoxicated, accusing them of putting “profit above safety,” and that the resulting damage was “caused or contributed to by the negligence, breach of duty, breach of contract” by the bar.

As reparations, they believe that the booze distributor is responsible for “any awards or judgment amounts” resulting from multiple court claims levied against them by Woodman Avenue victims.

That is, if the father-daughter duo is required to pay any amount, then they are “entitled to contribution and indemnity from [Ovations].”

God forbid there should be some personal responsibility accepted!

Did I miss it, or was Anne Heche neglected from this string?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne_Heche#Death

"On August 5, 2022, Heche was involved in a sequence of three motor vehicle collisions in the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles, the final collision being the most serious, inflicting critical injuries on Heche and destroying a house.[200][201][202] The first collision took place when her vehicle struck an apartment garage and caused minor damage. A video released by TMZ shows her vehicle, a Mini Clubman,[203] at the scene of the accident and an unidentified man repeatedly shouting "Out of the car!" at the driver. The vehicle then reversed and left the scene of the accident. A photo of the driver also released by TMZ is identified as Anne Heche.[203][201][204][205] TMZ also reported a second hit-and-run in which Heche's vehicle struck a Jaguar without stopping, though without injury to the other driver. An accompanying video shows the Mini Clubman speeding down an alleyway and nearly hitting a pedestrian.[206] A doorbell video recorded in the moments before the final crash shows Heche's vehicle driving along a neighborhood street at a very high speed, followed a few seconds later by the sound of a crash.[200][204][207]

In the final crash, her vehicle struck a house, broke through a wall and embedded itself 30 feet (9.1 m) into the building, trapping Heche inside. The vehicle caught fire, which rapidly spread through the entire building. The resulting house fire took 65 minutes to fully extinguish and required 59 firefighters.[201][202][208][209] Firefighters were unable to access and fully extricate Heche from the vehicle for 45 minutes after their arrival on the scene, and initially were not aware that a person was trapped in the vehicle itself.[210] Heche had sustained severe burns and smoke inhalation injuries by the time she was rescued.[201][202] The house was left structurally compromised and uninhabitable.[203][204][208] The tenant living in the house was in the rear of the structure at the time of the collision and only sustained minor injuries, but her attorney said that she and her pets "almost lost their lives" and that she had lost all of her personal property in the fire."

I don't know if her estate ever compensated the owners and tenants for the house she destroyed.
