And for those who still hire, you pretend to stop?when?or for what reason?

I stopped for 5-6 years, started again recently, and encountered trouble or disappointment again. So while not "done with it," another bad experience or two, I probably will conclude its not worth the headache.

I stopped for almost 5 years when I first moved Austin. There just wasn't anyone here that I was interested in, and then I got out of the habit of looking, so my time and energy went elsewhere. (You should see my landscaping. )

While I haven't stopped hiring I have certainly slowed down quite a bit when it comes to hiring new talent. I'm lucky over the past couple of years to have found 5-6 guys who cycle through Dallas on a routine basis and that allows me to indulge in some great times. Yes, I still get the itch to explore new territory but as others have stated before me.....it's frustrating and hard work trying to find good men. Lot of drugs, scammers and thieves to filter through out there. Not many diamonds in the rough left in my opinion.

Its Folsom Fair in San Francisco this weekend. That means alot of visiting rentguys.

 

Spurred on by the visitors & a changed frame of mind today, Friday, I contacted four guys for appointments. By text. No prior contact or experience with any of the four. Three RM, one from MFinder.

 

One guy responded quickly, asked when I want to see him. When I replied "Saturday afternoon" he responded that I should contact him again on Saturday. Ok, I understand that- I've read enough threads here to know that rentguys believe the further in advance the request, the less likely the client follow-through. Still, its only 18 hours in advance, and I like to plan ahead.

 

The other three never responded to my texts. I tried repeat texts to two of them a few hours later... maybe they missed a text, got distracted, etc. No reply.

 

So today's experience is an example of why I move myself back into the "when I used to hire" category. Its often not worth the hassle.
