Hey guys…well I know this topic seems kind of done...but just thought I would add another comment since there was a lot of talk on the sterility thing. Having dealt with the sterility issue most of my professional life and had to work in a deployed environment several times…I tend to agree with Rudynate…sterility is pretty much a relative term (well not really the term..but the concept is lol). Every time a doc cuts the skin (like in surgery) it is not sterile you just try and get it as close as you can. In this case I wouldn’t obsess too much over getting things absolutely sterile. Urine is pretty good at getting rid of bugs so long as the foreign object is gone. I think a “get things as clean as you can” approach is ok. I have done it a couple of times (yea it was ok…kind of novel like “holy crap I got a rod sticking out of my dick”) Keeping them clean, running them though the dishwasher (with hot dry cycle), using gloves, sterile water-based lube (they make an antibacterial one), keep a “clean field” with a clean towel, wiping them down with alcohol before use..and pee a lot afterwards Keeping them clean is probably the most important (dishwasher after each use) and not licking the sound before you put it in (saw that in a vid once) is probably also a good idea.

Again in a nutshell since boiling has been mentioned: Simple boiling does not sterilize it only disinfects. Of course again that's better than doing nothing. That is why autoclaves are utilized. Autoclaving adds extra pressure into the equation so as literally to blast the bugs and germs on instruments with steam long enough result in sterilization. The extra pressure in an autoclave means that water boils at a temperature higher than its normal boiling point of 100 degrees. The result being that it kills microbes more effectively. Since the temperature is about 120 degrees it is much more effective. In essence it is pressure cooking the bacteria and any bacterial spores.

 

Of course in the case of sounds, the instruments would need to cool down after being disinfected by boiling or sterilized via an autoclave. Not doing so would add a further layer of heat laced kink into the an already kinky equation!

Heck no pain no gain. In this case if one wants to play safely and responsibly one needs to go through the "pain" of attempting to sterilize things as properly as possible. Personally, it seems like quite a bit of effort for a moment of pleasure, but heck if that's your thing then that's what needs to be done.

 

As an analogy, I am not overly into bondage. However, on multiple occasions I have seen where subs are subjected to what seems to be an eternity of rope tying in order to achieve that magical position where the maximum pleasure is achieved. Often what is most time consuming regarding the procedure concerns the fact that it needs to be done in a safe manner so as not to cause any injury. When the magical position is achieved the sub might then be flogged or tormented in some way depending on his needs. Most often he is then jerked off. He has a smile on his face. It then takes another eternity to undo the complicated web of rope that got him into that special position in the first place and again it must be done so as to assure safety. It all seems like so much of an effort to me as personally I would prefer to get directly to and spend more time doing the main event. However, bondage aficionados think differently and would not have it any other way.

 

Accordingly, in an ideal world that should be the way that things should be approached with sounding. That is with with lots of time consuming pre and post session precautions. Heck I have attended "don't let this happen to you" demos where the pitfalls regarding bondage were demonstrated. I'm sure similar classes are available for sounding. We all must make certain decisions and then must be prepared to live with the consequences. As in everything in life we are a product of the choices that we make. Some of us make better choices than others.

Yes David, that is me. Reading through this thread you'll find a lot of suggestions, especially in regards to sterilization. Again, I don't own an autoclave, so I tend to stick with boiling and/or alcohol swabs. I also prefer standard lubes (either quality silicone or hybrid, I don't like most water-based) over medical lubricant. Also, you want to wash your hands very well and try to only touch the end of the rod, rather than parts that will be going inside you.

 

There are quite a few scenes of me sounding, if you just search "Lance Navarro porn sounding" I'm sure you'll find them. As with all porn however, it isn't always the best learning tool. The best way to learn is simply to "do".
