I can answer this with confidence that it is not dead or dying. I think many clients today are willing to pay(even regular working folk and college students), but only to someone they feel is worth it. I think long gone are the days of putting up an ad on RENTBOY and banking 150K simply by doing nothing. Many escorts especially younger guys do not put in the work to build their brands, they then wonder why clients aren't calling. I've coached a few of them here in NYC, branding and distinguishing yourself from the pack (in a positive way) is what will make anyone in any industry successful, oh and being good at what you do.

I can answer this also with confidence that high end clients aren't going to walmart to rent boys, aka grindr. But what is a high end client anyway? Are we talking about their status in society or the money they are willing to spend on your time? I can tell you I've had college kids spend $900 and the lawyer spend $300. People will spend money on things they feel are valuable. People with money to spend on escorts like value and appreciate service and are more than willing to pay for it.

 

I think anyone with common sense will agree that a well reviewed escort on RENTBOY and here, is a better bet than Grindr. There's so many discussions on this already. I haven't even found a super sexy bottom twinky to bang out on a Friday night, if I'm missing something let me know.

 

Mikey, don't take this as a personal dig. If I were seeking an escort and came across this thread and saw the escorts commenting here, I would probably choose the one who exudes the most confidence and best attitude. This whole "poor me" thing is most likely driving potential clients away. I'd wonder the reasons why you aren't busy, make my mind wander, and probably use that as a reason for not investing time with you. Remember this is a service that will sell itself. There's no 30 second elevator pitch before being hired. Clients like what they see or like what they read, or a combo of both and then they hire.

From my perspective as a client, that is so absolutely true. I very much prefer to give a lot of business to a local guy whom I know is reliable and with whom I can establish a level of mutual appreciation, respect and even a friendship. Once you accomplish that, I find it a more relaxed and fun experience for everybody involved. Of course, I don't forget what the true nature of the relationship is although sometimes it is tempting to forget.

 

As a footnote to my comment: I live in NYC where there are real gems on the local market. Somebody else's perspective may be different.

As usual, Killianjames hits the nail on the head.

 

Real value, good branding (not necessarily the s/m kind!), honesty, hard work (in every sense!) and (I would add) joy given and received in return will always find their reward.

 

IMHO, though, there are ups and down in every line of work. A true professional of any kind learns how to navigate the particular roller coaster that is his chosen field. He adjusts past assumptions to current realities while keeping the fundamentals of his service at the center of what he does.

That's funny. I don't like the pierced and/or painted look either. I've told myself that if I come across someone on the sites that's handsome, looks real (not easy to find) and doesn't have the ink and metal I'd be willing to pay a lot more in the past. I have never toured or travelled. I have tried it and I didn't like it. Too many guys wasting your time. 50 enquries for a 4 day tour, 10 calling on the day who never bother, three no shows and countless toss off calls. I knocked it on the head years ago. If I am already visiting a city in my other self employed work I will stick an advert on, my travel and hotel is being paid anyway by a third party and so anything else is a bonus.

 

I only offer incalls from home. I am never short of work, so whereas you know you've got guys on the doorstep but the excitement of a travelling guy thrills you, there's many many more who want to see someone local who they know is reliable and is probably not seeing back to back to back to back guys to pay the hotel room, travel and out of town living expenses.

 

If you have a steady set of regular customers, then I'd say you fall into the elite category I was talking about rather than the middle of the road category of guys who are suffering because of increased competition. My point was that many of those guys have to travel to increase their demand in a given market. I've even known a couple of local guys who pretend to travel by taking down their ads for a few days every couple of weeks. They stay available to regulars when their ads are down, but they don't take new clients. When the ads go back up, I've heard that business increases drastically for several days.

I'm amazed to learn how interconnected high end escorts appear to be. I've seen an excellent escort in the Boston area many times over the past couple of years and have had great experience with him. However, I thought I might look around a bit to see what else was out there. To my great surprise (and embarrassment, I might add) my inquiry to another escort was almost immediately known to the guy I usually see. I'm not sure how that happened; it certainly wasn't because I made a mistake in addressing my email message. I have to assume that these men are friends or even associates; maybe they actually live together. Whatever, escorting seems to be a small world.

I appreciate Mikey's honest thread and enjoyed all of your comments except one which seemed to put Mikey down. (I feel we need to be supportive of each other. If we aren't who will be?) I think there are other clients who approach payment just as I do - seek out a good match, offer a fair rate and hope for a quality experience. I hire a few times a year and offer the same to guys I chat up on Adam4adam as I do guys on Men4rentnow, which right now is roughly 200 for 90 minutes. Guys in my area and the nearby states have been pretty content with that. I don't really look for a bargain in this business, but have to set limits. As a client I want to get a quality experience and pay a fair rate. If cost of living requires a higher rate in SF and NYC, I respect that, but probably will pass up the experience.

I'll throw in one more possibility. Society is changing. We're seeing more states approve same-sex marriage. Years ago the conversion was "gay and lesbian" and now it is more inclusive "LGBT." With the changing society, many folks in their 40s and 50s are living their lives more openly than we may have years ago.

 

Hiring a high-end escort is often about more than the sex. When I started hiring, it was also about acceptance, being with someone who I hoped wasn't judging me about my sexual preferences or any gay culture discussion. I've realized recently that my social circle is more accepting and many of those needs that I used to rely on an escort to fill are being met in my daily life. Thus the need to hire is less.

 

So perhaps there is a component of societal change leading to the lower escort demand.

I refer everyone to my PERFECT reviews on daddys reviews. Not one has spoken of bad skin or a lack of workouts...just the opposite in fact.
