Perhaps there is also a question of "the same old guys" in each area of the country.

Yes, there are those escorts for whom this is a side job and who don't really travel much unless it is for hire. There are, however, others who do travel around but mostly stay within the same geographic areas. Thus, East coast guys stay in the East, Western guys stay west.

If there were a bit more intermix, the East guys coming West and vice versa, there might be a bit more interest in some.

This is probably true Funguy. I do see the same escorts coming this way, but the ones out west incur more cost by coming this far. Mikey I believe, still has a home in south Florida, but for the escort that doesn't have accommodations, he must add that to his cost, plus the added cost of air. I just crossed the country numerous times to meet family in Sacramento. Their cost from LA was just over 2 hundred dollars, my cost was almost 8 hundred from FTL, and that was on Southwest. Traveling to see clients is pricey. It must be hard for them to keep their base intact.

I've also noticed that many of the escorts out of the NYC and DC area rarely venture this far south, and if they do, their trips are few and far between. I understand why they don't travel this far south, but the fact remains that we only tend to see the same local guys.

Guys in DC we would call this a ,"Think tank."

I appreciate all the replies so far. Please keep them coming.

To answer the one specific question aimed at me about economic cycles I have to say that during the

Great recession I was in post Katrina new Orleans which was actually experiencing a major boom! So my

Data is skewed. Florida is steady. Whenever I "tour," I am still a superstar regardless of the economy.

It is like what was said about different guys being available. Atlanta always is a smash for me. So is DC when I tour but when you move somewhere and try to build a new local market is where the real slowdown occurs.

It is also non helpful when other local escorts are territorial and downright unfriendly to the point of having their regulars

Set up calls with me and cancel last minute to Tie up my schedule. This seems to be common practice in DC when established stars feel threatened. It is sad that we can't work together and reccomend each other. I always speak well or other pros and reccomend them. I don't feel like my competitors do that.....

I am sorry to hear that this is happening to you, that is indeed awful. I don't want to question it, but how do you know that this is indeed what's happening? How can you be so sure? I am just curious.

it also strikes me as odd

it makes sense when a very popular in-his-prime escort has this happening but for someone else, i'd question why it's being done in the first place. whats the goal?

I understand that this happens Mikey, which is why I thought going to the event in DC would have given you a chance to do some networking, but do you feel more push back from escorts in DC or in South Florida? I know a couple of top rated escorts who have come here, who unfortunately experienced problems with other escorts, who have openly become territorial. Just curious.

When I went out to lunch with ACE and JD Daniels I arrived rather early (normal for me) and took the time to explore the area. Along about a mile segment of Flamingo every single complex and most of the buildings had a "For Lease" sign including the previously "Smiths" grocery store.

IMHO the "Great Recession" hasn't ended, I'm no better off now then I was in 2007.

That's the problem that I'm seeing with Escorts in general, the cash flow is still low. I'm feeling the pinch just like they are. The last two months of income have been at record lows. My expectation is that over the next few years there will be no significant improvement.

I agree about the babyboomers generation. I have always had the theory that as the generations that had to "hide in the closet" aged out that this would happen. I've seen the market slowly shifting from the babyboomers to those that are too busy to go out cruising, business travelers or people that have been frustrated with the social media methods finding a playmate.

I can't recommend CL or Backpage just from the less than stellar reviews that come from that venue. Particularly here in Vegas, it really is a very shallow pool to my dismay. To the point that Vegas has gotten a bad reputation for escorts. This in a city that has some of the best escorts in the world. (I may be biased.)

Thank heavens my parents survived the original Depression, that taught me how to rub two quarters together until they are shinny (Inflation you know, it used to be pennies)

true, but you're living in a city that was hit early, hit hard and is recovering at a snails pace

it's why I love Texas. we weren't hit that hard, real estate remains strong and jobs are plentiful. not always politcally in tune but for money managing, it's one of the best places to be right now

come on down daddy. i bet we can find ya a nice spot in the hill country!

Permission to speak freely? This is an honest question to ALL forum members and I would appreciate some honest and candid answers. While I personally know that there are many, many good, wonderful and excellent clients out there who appreciate our level of DISCRETION, professionalism, our many reviews on this august site etc........ the undeniable fact is that business is down and in fact WAY WAY down for most , if not all, high end upscale providers. This applies to the twinks, the twunks, the hunks, the studs and even the experienced daddies like me. Over the last month I have talked to some colleagues and we all agree on this. The frustration level among all of us is high. Most escorts wont come on here and say it but it is true. CRAIGSLIST and GRINDR are eating away and grinding away at the biz. More and more hook up opportunities are leading more and more would be potential clients to other outlets. A new generation of $40-$120 boys are out there. Let me give you one (of many) personal examples from just last Saturday morning: I had 37 messages on grindr (33 of them were cute as hell-my type) but zero serious inquiries from the 3 major escort sites . I can run a discreet no face pic ad on cl and link guys to my 3 ad sites and do and schedule 100 dollar calls all day and all night but only a select few are willing to go 200. So I want to THANK the dozen or so WONDERFUL and AMAZING new clients I have met in DC and the surrounding area but I must ask WHERE ARE THE REST? Many regulars who saw me every time I toured to DC have fallen off the radar and disappeared without a trace. Many who promised to see me if I moved to DC have simply, well, not done that. I also speak for my MUTE colleagues who want to come on here and echo what I am saying but for biz purposes would rather not. I can speak frankly because I have been doing this biz for twenty years and made well in excess of a million bucks (wish I still had most of it! lol!): and I am decidedly not hurting financially but I feel for other working guys who literally cannot pay next months rent, car payment, etc. Finally, in closing, I HAVE SERIOUSLY CONSIDERED RETIRING recently but let me tell you why I have chosen not too: my clients have asked me not to! I have asked them to be honest with me: is it time? They all say NO and that I am as hot or hotter than ever. To a man they all say the problem is not the PRODUCT but the MARKET. The biz in general seems to be in decline. I invite the response of clients, escorts, members, moderators, lurkers, anyone. MIKEY ps: I will save for another thread the dramactic recent rise (confirmed by a number of colleagues far hotter and hipper than me) in last minute cancellations, gameplaying, bareback requests ,illegal drug requests, etc. The FREAK SHOW IS ON. I refer people back to some of my threads such as ,"The death of common courtesy,' and,"the cancellation carousel continues." Thing are now worse than ever even here in a GOOD market like DC.

Come on, we're talking about the oldest profession. No, it's not in decline. I think, however, as with everything these days, it is changing. Even though your desirability is not in doubt, the market's taste may have shifted. Also, the internet and the universality of mobile technology has changed things drastically. In my business, I have to jump on an internet lead within a few minutes, otherwise, it will have gone stale. And people generally conduct themselves, not exactly with incivility, but everyone is blunt, bottom-line, don't-waste-my-time.

What's interesting to me, Mikey, is that when things are going well for you as an escort it's all about your big dick and the fact that you're the self-described "number one escort in Florida". However, when things don't go well, it's always because of the CL flakes, crazy clients trying to get services cheaper, and now, other escorts intentionally sabotaging you. Seems to me that if you take credit for the glory, you need to take some responsibility for the problems, too. Maybe too much self aggrandizing and self promotion? Who knows - it's a business and there's always going to be less expensive ways to get goods, so you have to either change prices or change your product or find contentment with the incredible, fabulous, wondrous clients you've thanked in your post. No different than real estate...if the house isn't selling, it's the price for that particular structure in that setting at that time. As a traveling visitor, you might have been a novelty and people may have felt some pressure to "see you while they can". Now you're there all the time and the pond of fish interested in nibbling at your line may be saturated. Somehow, other guys in Washington are making it. Stop blaming and consider making other changes...

I didn't have the gumption to post this, but wish I had now

the fact is that Mikey is an aging commodity. He's not twenty anymore and from the looks of it, isn't keeping up as much as he should with fitness and skin care. If you want to attract the best you've got to look your best. folks don't always hire for a just a 'big dick.' tons of that out there already. what sets you apart, what makes you special?

that's what you sell and you are lacking that in your online personality and the ads i've seen. i reckon it's also why you just changed your name to something that sounds less like a young guy and more like a more mature one. that's a good start

You are spot on the "money" about the continuation of the Great Recession. I have had to take huge pay cuts to remain competitive in my profession. The same goes for other "professions".

Also, when escorts enter new territories, I am sure they face the same product entry barriers as others. It's all about the Product. How do you differentiate your product versus others in the established market? What are your product's features, advantages, and benefits? What incentives are being offered to potential clients to try your "product" out? It's all about client acquisition and retention. This is from my days working in NYC on Madison Ave.

I am also thankful to my folks who taught me not to go into debt so that I can adapt to the changing economy.

I'll throw in one more possibility. Society is changing. We're seeing more states approve same-sex marriage. Years ago the conversion was "gay and lesbian" and now it is more inclusive "LGBT." With the changing society, many folks in their 40s and 50s are living their lives more openly than we may have years ago.

Hiring a high-end escort is often about more than the sex. When I started hiring, it was also about acceptance, being with someone who I hoped wasn't judging me about my sexual preferences or any gay culture discussion. I've realized recently that my social circle is more accepting and many of those needs that I used to rely on an escort to fill are being met in my daily life. Thus the need to hire is less.

So perhaps there is a component of societal change leading to the lower escort demand.

There will always be demand for truly high end escorts. The elite will always have regulars because they are such excellent providers. Throw in the new guys they get requests from, and many have more appointment requests than they can possibly accept when they are in a major city.

I think it's the middle of the pack guys who are getting squeezed the most, especially the ones who do not travel. There are a lot more "average" escorts available now than there were even a few years ago. The increased supply has led to prices decreasing for that group of escorts. As others have noted, the economic downturn has also decreased demand as formerly regular clients can no longer afford to spend as much on escorts. The combination of these factors makes it harder for non-elite escorts to do well. Traveling seems to help because absence does seem to make the heart (and cock) grow fonder. Based on personal experience, I know I hire guys who travel to Dallas more frequently than guys who live here simply because I know the time frame to hire an out of town guy is limited but I feel like I can contact a local guy anytime to set something up. I sometimes get on rentboy or masseur finder intending to contact Local Guy X who I haven't hired in a while but discover that Traveling Guy Y is in town, so I text him instead. Then a week or two later I'll plan to contact Local Guy X, but the same thing happens again and suddenly I haven't hired X for 3 months (speaking of which, I really should text one of my local guys tomorrow -- hopefully I don't stumble across any "can't miss" ads from out of town guys when I go to look up his number).

Whereas I think maybe that was a bit harsh and maybe a little too personal there are some valid points. Every escort is an aging commodity. None of us get any younger. I've been in this industry for over 15 years now, having started as a twinky gangly 20 something, bounce around the bed thing for daddy types. I am getting to the age where I am knocking on the door of being a daddy type myself but I know what my strong points are and my weaknesses. I adapted my career into an ever changing world and took a decision a few years ago to actively pursue private "sugar daddy" arrangements with middle/senior management and CEO types. It's a role I fit into very well and although I see most of my clients at home, from my local area, I have been on 24 flights since January this year to see very special men who I have a separate arrangement with. This is something I adapted into because I am not getting any younger and I am the son of an executive, privately educated and very highly qualified in another field. Therefore the executive type clientele are second nature to me.

As for changing names. Huge mistake. Clients wonder if you're running away from bad reviews or a bad relationship but maybe an adaptation to appeal to a more mature market as Michael could work nicely.

I have never toured or travelled. I have tried it and I didn't like it. Too many guys wasting your time. 50 enquries for a 4 day tour, 10 calling on the day who never bother, three no shows and countless toss off calls. I knocked it on the head years ago. If I am already visiting a city in my other self employed work I will stick an advert on, my travel and hotel is being paid anyway by a third party and so anything else is a bonus.

I only offer incalls from home. I am never short of work, so whereas you know you've got guys on the doorstep but the excitement of a travelling guy thrills you, there's many many more who want to see someone local who they know is reliable and is probably not seeing back to back to back to back guys to pay the hotel room, travel and out of town living expenses.

Out of curiosity , where do you find the 100-150/hr escorts?

In England.

It was honest. didn't think it was harsh or personal. just an observation from someone who's been hiring for 20 + years

if mikey is gonna come onto this site and let off steam, fine, but he's going to have to take the criticism that comes with that. he wondered a loud about his business and folks gave it to him straight. i'd be thankful for that, not angry

It was the skincare bit. To be brutally honest, I use Day cream, night cream, eye cream, and Madagascan vanilla dairy cream to try and get through the day, but skincare can be as much genetic as anything else. Therefore unless you've met and you're basing your observations on photographs then I thought that was little unfair, however I did agree with the point you're trying to make.
