I was wondering how some of the people here found this site and if you were a lurker instead of participant first. I found this site about 2 years ago from a link from an Escort/Porn star's website.

 

I lurked around the Message Center several months before actually becoming a Poster and had actually posted a couple of reviews before participating here.

I used to frequent the old ATKOL escort forum until it went into meltdown and closed up shop. Shortly thereafter, I heard about this site (can't remember how after all this time) and I've been here ever since. It was in the VERY early days of its existence.

Like bbkk, I used to frequent (and post on) the ATKOL site until He Who Shall Not Be Named ruined it.

 

I can't exactly remember how I found this site. It was too long ago. But for the longest time, I didn't even know the message center existed. I'd just check the reviews daily, and occasionally see the MC mentioned in Hoo's emails.

 

It was probably a year or so before I ventured in here. And I doubt I was much of a lurker for long. :9

Before I started posting on here a lot of escorts I would hire from the NYC area(I live in Philly) would always ask for a review from me, not really knowing what the hell they were talking about, I always let it past for about a year until I started getting my escorts from CampusEscorts. I would have long talks with Mike (The Owner) and he was the real one that talked me into posting:9.

 

At that point I really just would read the new reviews and check out the message center, I was still really deep in the closet and would never think of posting;(.

 

Then reading more & more I started to feel just like everyone else in here and started to feel more comfortable with myself. Then I started posting & joining in in the message center back in March of last year. It was the best thing I ever did, made a lot of new friends on here that I would never want to lose now. I am listed as a "charter member", which I assume means that Hooboy didn't keep records in the early days and doesn't know when some of us actually started posting. When I ventured onto the Internet for the first time in 1999 (yes, I was/am cybernetically retarded), I stumbled across this site on some sort of "ring" while looking for porn. Since I had been hiring escorts for twenty years (and keeping detailed records of every encounter), I realized it was the perfect opportunity to share some otherwise useless information with others who could use it--I would certainly have appreciated reviews before hiring many of the guys I had wasted hard-earned money on over the years. Like deej, however, I didn't realize the message board existed (OK, I didn't even know what a message board was) until I had read and posted reviews for several months. As soon as I read the board, I started posting, and since then I have been hooked; now I spend much more time on the board than on the reviews.

I found this site a long time ago when I first came out and was looking for escorts, just stumbled across it if I recall. When the message center began I was a charter poster under the name Jake. I was a really pollyanna, newly gay and happy to be so. I thought since we were all "brothers" we'd all like one another. I learned quickly. I got batted around, called names, naive (I was) and generally dismissed. I ran home to mommy and cried. A few months later I came back as bitchboy and have been around ever since on an irregular basis. I learned quickly that some gay people really love other gay people and want to share, and then some are so homophobic they hang around just to bash and be argumentative.

I've also been here since close to the site's genesis. I lurked on the Atkol board when they still had an escort forum. I found this site way back doing a search on "escort". That was before the "Message Center" existed.

 

I was a fairly active participant from the onset but since I retired from clienting I admit I've taken on a more passive role. Not quite a "lurker" though.

I really dont remember how I found out about this site but once I did what a difference it made in my life. I got to see other like me and then got to meet lots of wonderful escorts who I found out were real people not just sex machines. Of course I lurked in the beginning as in the old days you had to be approved to post and waited your time in line and then only after you did and through some fixes on the board your posts started to register. I feel like although I don't know many on here in Person I know alot. Been Lucky to get to meet some wonderful guys who escort and the more I meet them more I like them. Had lots of fun last year don't know if I can duplicate it. Found a lot of friends on here that would love to meet and go past the email. Lvsyng,VAhawak.KY=TOp and many more. Also want to meet Deej one day. Lucky enough to have met the great and powerful OZ.(HOOBOY) Thanks again for whether u are on here as a lurker or poster we need tnem both and both benefit from it. I found this site in the fall of '99. I don't remember where exactly, a link on an escort site or on one of the gay escort directories. Since I'm pretty shy, I don't think I posted right away, but I couldn't tell you how long it was between discovery and posting.

About 2+ years ago I stumbled on this like the others, and never clicked on the Message Board til sometime after, and lurked for only a short time. I look at the reviews as mostly entertainment, and self serving bullshit at that. I've only met 2 good escorts from this venue, and both were out of town. The discussions are wonderful since we are such a special niche group (1400 members out of a world wide population of billions).

We are family, even with the problem children...

I first found this site just last June, when perusing one of the escort sites (I think it was MeetLocalMen) and clicked on reference. I only came here to read the reviews, but after reading the message center one day, I decided to join in last October, as I do like to flap the ole' lips and stick my 1.5 cents worth in. :)

KY I am a real old timer. I go back to the days before HooBoy even had this domain. While I can remember that site I can't say specifically how I found it.

 

About the Message Center I was within the original lot of posters. I don't recall lurking at all. I sort of dove right in at the time. Then the center took a few twists and turns and I took on a few new identities :o . These days I'm simply Huey and in two days I will be Huey in samlltown USA :( .

One positive thing about living in Smalltown USA is that it really makes the trips to the Big City Candy Stores (wink) a lot more fun.

 

I've really enjoyed reading the responses in this thread and hope a few more chime in.

I found the site when someone wrote me to say, "Nice reviews on Hooboy" (I had 2 at that time). I wrote back and asked, "Thanks, but what's a Hooboy?" Then when the message center started, I found a place to tell dumb jokes, instead of torturing Derek with 'em. :p

One of the Twinks advised me during breakfast that I had two reviews, so that was the first thing I learned about. I found the reviews fascinating and would read them all. Even the ones from places I would never visit, like Thailand or Columbus, Ohio.

 

Then, I got bored with the essentially sameness of many of the reviews and started to only read the RESPONSES and the original review responded to. Honestly, that is about all I look at now.

 

At some point, another twink suggested I post my trips in Escort Travel and so I joined the Message Center. I lurked for all of about 24 hours. I discovered I was not supposed to post to old threads, answer old questions, write lengthy posts, promote the fuck out of myself, or have strong opinions and comments. Obviously, I am not very good at not doing what I am not supposed to do.

 

I, too, have met some great people here, clients who are not my clients, and other escorts, both in person and on-line, I probably check the forums at least seven times a week, although not daily like I did at first.

Actually I suppose I "found" this site before it even existed in it's current form.

 

I was engaged in some post-coital chit-chat with one of my favorite escorts when he mentioned that one of his clients had written a "review" of him and put it up on a website (something which I, myself, had been thinking of doing but had never gotten round to ...)

 

Anyway, I found the site on which the review was posted and when this site was established I joined pretty much on day 1.

I was a member of the message center about two years ago. I would post once or twice a week. I quickly lost interest; about 2 months ago I began reading the message center again and decided to participate once more.

 

I originally found this site from a post made in a Usenet group.
