The only person I heard of who had King as a first name was King Vidor, the Hollywood director.

The Australian Minister for Home Affairs at the time of the foundation of Canberra in 1913 was a larger than life character called King O'Malley. There is a suburb of O'Malley in Canberra. He was also responsible for the banning of alcohol in the Australian Capital Territory at the time, a decision that was a boon for publicans in the NSW border town of Queanbeyan. Appropriately, there is a well known pub in the centre of Canberra that bears his name.

He was an American chancer (ahead of his time as far as the 18th Amendment was concerned) who, successfully at the time, claimed to be a Canadian (ironic given the Canadian role with the 18th) to overcome the ban on those holding allegiance to a foreign power being elected to the Australian Parliament. It was only much later that that constitutional provision was narrowed to exclude from eligibility citizens of Commonwealth Realms other than Australia.

I'm not sure if he actually made it to DC or was putting out feelers, but he's back in NYC. I was kind of curious about him.

Now that I think of it there was a King Clancy in Canada in hockey circles. A coach I think of the Toronto Maple Leaf  hockey team but I could be wrong. Hockey is not my strong suit.

When I had time I looked it up and my memory served me well. King Clancy (Frank) was a major NHL hockey player turned coach, most notably for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who despite their losing ways, is the richest hockey franchise in Canada.
