This was published this past Tuesday, May 20. According to other sites, sources at the Casino, ticket sales didn't get any better for the rest of the week, with the casino offering free tickets to 'high rollers' to fill the 5,000 seats each night.

JANET Jackson is struggling to sell tickets to her Las Vegas residency, and about 60% of seats are still available for Wednesday night's premiere performance, The U.S. Sun can confirm.

The iconic pop star and sister to the late Michael Jackson previously completed a sold-out, 10-day residency from December through January of this year at Resorts World.

The Vegas hotel signed on to bring Janet, 59, back for shorter run in February that stretched over Valentine's Day, and then again this week from May 21 through May 31 with six shows.

But with the big opening night just one day away, ticket sales on AXS show a majority of seats in the 5,000 person venue still available.

The other dates do not look much more packed than the premiere.

Prices range from just above $50 to $444 a seat, according to the ticketing site.

Janet, 58, began her residency in December with an impressive two-hour show that showcased her extensive catalog of hits.

She performed an incredible 43 songs, including Young Love, which she hadn’t sung live in over a decade.

This residency follows her Together Again tour, which included 35 performances.

In related news, tourism for Las Vegas shows numbers falling this year from Jan 1 - March 31 as compared to 2024. For the month of March, tourism was down nearly 8% according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. Hotel occupancy was down to 83% for the month as compared to 85% last March.

As the news was breaking that Jackson only sold 40% of a 5,000 seat venue (embarrassing any way you try to spin this), her team put out a statement that the casino has asked her to come back for the first week of September, and she said yes. Sure...let's see what illness hits her at that time and she's 'forced to cancel'.

What's strange is that when 'residency' was first tossed around decades ago, a residency consisted of a performer performing for years at the same casino, every night. Such as Wayne Newton in LV, Siegfried and Roy, etc. If not years, months on end (usually around 9 months and took the summer off to tour).

Sorry Janet, but 4 - 5 nights every few months does not make a Vegas residency. Back in the 50s - 90s, when 'summer concerts' were popular under 'the outdoor tent', acts were booked for five days and seven performances (two evening performances on Friday and Saturday). No one called it a 'residency'. They called it 'a week at the Tent'.

yeah, this fairly new "residency" term is pretentious and silly.....I'm no expert at all on all things Janet, but, to me, she's just an aging has-been with no clear demographic that would still want to see her......

As a non-expert, you nailed it.  She's trying to relive her glory days from 30 years ago. Not happening.

If she put together a clever show, added some shirtless, hunky backup dancers, and a great band, then it could work.  She did have a lot of fun hits.

If leisure tourism is softening, should Las Vegas find a more realistic ceiling for ticket prices.  $444 is a lot for Miss Jackson.

I believe it's not only softening in Las Vegas, but every 'tourist' spot across America. I've heard DIsneyworld and Disneyland are offering incredible deals for their parks and hotels this summer trying to get tourists. I'm hearing tickets to B'way shows are not selling as expected with summer tourist season kicking off this week. They need to lower the prices on tickets if they wish to fill theaters.

Where I'm from (RI) I'm hearing nothing but how tourism is WAY off for Newport, RI,  Block Island, RI, and near by Cape Cod, MA and 'the islands' (Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket).  Who would fill up the reservation books for our hotels and restuarants (and ferry service to the islands) by the end of March each year ?  Canadian tourists - and that's not happening at all this summer. Not at all.

Ticket prices for most entertainment events skyrocketed after Covid. It worked for a few years but was not sustainable. Everything tourism related is slowing down at the moment. I was in Savannah a few weeks ago for three nights. The weather was perfect (high 70’s-low 80’s and no rain). It seemed unusually quiet there. The hotel was empty. I never saw anyone else on the elevator.  All restaurants widely available

I echo other’s comments on Vegas. Everything got over the top expensive on the strip.  I understand the newest strip properties of Resorts World and Fountainblue are bleeding money. Stories of people going to the casino and no one is there. Even talk of possible bankruptcy filings.  Janet is just another casualty of the times.

The perfect storm has descended on LV and other US tourist hotspots:

* COVID revenge travel is over

* Canadians don’t want to visit the US

* Economy slowing down

* Folks fed up with high prices

* General unease about the economy.

Something had to give. I just don’t see people spending money this year like they did the last 2-3 years.

I'm in Vegas right now and I am staying at the Sahara hotel which I absolutely despise for other reasons. However I found out that if you were a guest here you can get a ticket for $50 to magic Mike and that includes taxes and booking fee if you use the box office at the sahara. The show was fabulous. Only one nudity about Midway through the show by a very beautiful gorgeous black muscular man. The rest of the time they are in suits or their shirts are off and only occasionally are they in underwear. Briefs. But the show is beyond any sense of expectation I could have had. There are about 400 women in the theater and I think there were four men myself and three others dispersed throughout. The interesting thing is if you buy the ticket at the box office as a guest at the Sahara they let you choose your seat except for the very front rows. I was in the second row where a dancer danced on the table and interacted with myself without hesitancy because I am a man. This is obviously a Thursday after Memorial Day and the city is not that crowded but I travel a lot and I have been recently in Miami and Chicago. Fort lauderdale. Meccas for tourist. It's way down. Way way down. I was in Orlando for a few days and all I saw were white people. Everywhere. With plenty of space to sit in a seat at the airport which is unheard of.

So there were white people everywhere? What is your point? If tourism is down, what does it matter what their color is?

I cannot believe you asked this question. You want to stir up an issue. When one is in Orlando you see many Asian brothers and sisters of ours. We Are One humanity. That is one example. When a city or an airport is primarily made up of white people when it usually is not then that is indicative that there is a problem. Tourism is down meaning people from other nations are not coming and that should not be news to you. I've refuse to elaborate further. I love diversity. I don't want everybody to be the same. And when I see white people everywhere in these very same places where that is not the norm the one has to pause and consider what the hell is going on. Enough said.

Today on our local NPR station, they were talking about the tourism drop in southeastern MA and RI. They interviewed one guy who owns four restaurants in the 'tourist coastal area hot spots' in both RI and nearby MA. He said business was way off for May (even with the graduations in town every weekend in May). He also said June is not looking so good, either - Father's Day weekend is usually booked up way in advance - not this year. He has plenty of tables available. He hasn't hired all his staff yet for the summer, and by the looks of it he doesn't think he'll be doing more hiring than what he has leftover from the winter.

There’s another reason why Janet Isn’t selling tickets, which leans into politics, so I won’t be able to go into detail….

lets just say that during this past  E******n she made some comments questioning a characteristic of one of the c********s, and it pissed her most significant fan base completely off.

Look dude. I clearly said that I had to tread carefully as the reasons I’m referencing are political.

if you can’t connect the term political with two words , where one starts with an “E”, and the other starts with a “C”, then there’s nothing I can do to resolve your lack of critical thinking.

No. He was being a smart ass.

We all know that the moderators are EXTREMELY triggered by politics, so we all know why I had to type that message in “code”.

I wasn't aware of the political shade thrown around but  I see it now.

I also see fans in the UK complaining about high ticket prices, where some venues had significant unsold seats.  That may be the bigger problem, IMO.  But I tend to be frugal.  🙂

The Jacksons are a devout family, right?  So my shirtless, hunky dancer idea probably wouldn't fly with Miss Jackson.

But frankly, when a performer is a little long in the tooth, it doesn't hurt to have some firm, young flesh on stage that can move!

As long as she keeps it fun, tasteful and clever...

Aren’t all the federal museums and attractions in DC free?

Back on topic:  hmm, the report says that her initial run was “previously” sold out but doesn’t say how long ago that was.  Vegas is down a bit, but not that much.  I have to think that her die-hard fans jumped at the chance to see her, but there just aren’t that many die-hards out there.  True, she was super-popular, but it’s been a while.
