Entertainment mogul David Geffen has filed for divorce, to end his less-than-2-year marriage.

 

CA law is basically a 50/50 split.  However, the assets that Geffen made before the marriage is apparently off the table and he's been retired for 15 years. I think the boy toy will still be set up really nice and probably won't have to work his money maker for the rest of his life at any rate.

They both knew what they were getting into.  Geffen knows what it takes to get out.

I know of a Big time Hollywood Director and his Porn Star BF. After about 2 years or so he got tired of him as they do. Well, the Porn Star wasn't an idiot or at least his Lawyer wasn't and got himself set up too. They weren't even married so yeah I imagine there's more to it.

While you are still married you can collect. He can't keep collecting post-divorce and wasn't married long enough to collect on his ex-husband's record when older. But I'm saying while married he was probably getting around $20k in SS benefits, plus Geffen was saving money on his income taxes because of the wider brackets. Now Geffen is the kind of rich that's a rounding error to him, but the SS plus tax savings can offset much of the cost of a boytoy for the merely affluent.

I'm pretty sure that a spouse under 62 can only collect social security spousal benefits if they are caring for a child under 16 or a child with a disability.

Bottom line:  Armstrong is going to walk out much more wealthier than when he walked in. He's in his early 30s - let's hope he employs a savvy money manager to help him invest.

An article in the NYT today indicated that Armstrong wasn’t going to get as much as had been first thought but also that it was likely to be an amicable split.
So no doubt he will be well set up for his next adventure and Geffen wouldn’t be losing any significant portion of his assets.

Did anyone read the book Going Down in La La Land?  That had a sugar daddy character that some claim was allegedly based on Geffen.

Just thinking about Armstrong's prospects, he might look into a book deal, unless he signed an NDA.

If I had that kind of money, I'd just go the houseboy route. Full salary and health insurance during employment. And like every other job in America, employment at will. Incentive enough to act affectionate.

Getting legally married absolutely doesn't guarantee an "emotional connection", nor does it enhance the illusion of one. Re: Anna Nicole Smith.

I wouldn't even go that route as it seems to present different legal problems since sexual harassment of an employee is illegal and it isn't legal in California to hire someone to provide sexual services on demand.

Even without an NDA, if Geffen treated him well while they were together and is appropriately generous now that they are separating, hopefully the guy just leaves the details of his relationship with Geffen between them.  No reason to harbor ill will or treat someone callously who treated you nicely.  I understand that some might have the view that Geffen couldn't possibly have treated the guy nicely because he was using his position of wealth to get sex with a much younger man, but unless there's coercion involved I don't judge either party who wants to get involved in that kind of relationship.  If I did, I wouldn't be a frequent visitor to this forum.

Yeah, writing a book probably means having something sensational to say.  But overall is this thread really claiming Geffen treated Armstrong poorly?  I don't see that.

Not every state is at-will employment and in many states, employing someone opens you up to a LOT more litigation.
