White Daddy Top Posted April 24 Posted April 24 Hi everyone, First, a note of thanks to everyone on CoM. I'm relatively new here but I have found it to be a useful resource for this hobby of mine. I wanted to ask if anyone else has had similar thoughts with respect to face photos. Specifically, with the news reporting that people (even US citizens) are having their phones confiscated and searched by immigration/customs officials at airports, is anyone else bothered by the idea of a provider offering face pics in their profile? I don't mean to sound paranoid, but given the political direction of things in the U.S. today, it wouldn't take much for a customs or immigration officer to scan someone's phone or do an AI image search of their face to see that they're engaging in this like of work. Does that bother anyone else, especially providers? I generally would prefer guys who don't show their face, but they're the vast minority, so it's not really practical. Anyone else? Thanks again in advance for any words of advice!
moonlight Posted April 24 Posted April 24 I think it's a very real concern. Also, any random person can now do a facial recognition search online which are scarily accurate, from what I've read (for example, finding matches even when sunglasses are worn). Ultimately it's up to the provider to decide what's best for them. I don't hold it against providers who don't provide public face pics but I imagine it might affect business. For me, a body photo along with the profile description is usually enough for me to get a sense of whether I want to get in touch. As a client, why would you prefer no face pics in profiles? Just because you're concerned for their sake? TorontoDrew 1

The reason I prefer no face pics in a provider's profile is that, to me, it signifies someone who is more discreet and more likely to take privacy seriously. I'm concerned for the provider too of course, because IMHO this type of business should be legalized, but that's just not the world we live in. I also don't want to know that my provider might be picked up and harassed. jayjaycali 1
BuffaloKyle Posted April 24 Posted April 24 (edited) If someone is not planning on crossing any borders then they don't have to worry about all that facial recognition stuff. I'm ok with a guy having or not having face pics in their public gallery as long as they have them either in their private gallery or being willing to share one through messenger or text. A face pic is a must for me to meet at the end of the day. Edited April 24 by BuffaloKyle bichiguy and TorontoDrew 2

+ Jamie21 Posted April 24 Posted April 24 I’ve visited the US many times but I won’t be back anytime soon. The risk of being turned away at the border is too high. I don’t put my face on my adverts but I do share it if clients ask. Understanding how zealous and censorious US border agents are I’d not want to take the chance that they know me and what I do. + DrownedBoy and TorontoDrew 1 1

In today's world, it's not unusual for a provider to cross borders, and with the current state of technology and politics, I was thinking along the same lines as you. I was just curious if I am the only one who has thought of this.
NYXboy Posted April 25 Posted April 25 I personally agree that providers that obscure or hide their faces are attractive to me as it shows that they do value discretion, but I ask for Snapchat or WhatsApp face pics to be sent privately- as it is important to me when hiring. I can completely understand why someone would not want their face on that site- not just for the government but for potential jobs in the future.
+ DrownedBoy Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Like someone else said, I do need to see a hire's face first, even if they need to keep it private. Facial hair is a concern of mine. BrooklynIrish 1
BrooklynIrish Posted April 25 Posted April 25 I don't want to minimize any provider's concerns but AFAIK border agents are looking to refuse entry for political reasons. They're specifically looking at social media to see if people have anti-regime or anti-client state (you know which one) content. US citizens can refuse to have their phones looked at (though you may be held), but non-citizens will be turned away if they do. But from what is being reported, they're not looking for escort behavior.

Whilst what you are saying is also true- DHS has scrapped the biometric data from RM and is cross-referencing it to refuse visa entry to providers on the basis of 'tackling sex trafficking'. They most definitely ARE looking at escort behavior, and have been doing so for a few years now. I know of two providers that have been turned away. Edited April 26 by NYXboy TorontoDrew 1
