starman05 Posted March 8, 2023 Share Posted March 8, 2023 I'm so sorry this happened to you. it's easy for anyone else to say 'it's just money' but when I've had crap like this happen to me (we ALL make mistakes) I wonder if God was just pushing me out of the way from something far worse; what if you'd met them and they were on drugs and something worse occurred. thanks for warning us; you're helping others and I wish you luck in getting $$ back. When I lose or waste money, I try to cut back on simple things like going out for coffee and just have instant for a few months. And that’s just the RentMasseur ones. I have more on RentMen. However it’s not just reviews. Do these people have website, business cards to show? These are all things I offer. Clients talk about being burned but, is there much effort into screening/research? I get texts by scammers WEEKLY. Either sugar daddy scams, and now portrait painting scams, and of course prospects who bail. I am currently on tour and even though I had a hard time getting clients to confirm with deposits on my previous tour, I’ve had several with no issues doing so. In fact been quite happily busy. I simply couldn’t keep spending hundreds on hotels and travel, going to cities and getting flaked or cancelled on. In fact, I had that on the first leg of my current trip I was going to, and the client actually sent a deposit. It was an area 90 miles from home. He had to cancel for the next day, due to an emergency. Which is understandable. But I went out of my way, moving my travels a day earlier: to accommodate what should have been a 2 hour session. Since it was too late to turn back around, I checked in to my suite anyway. Unfortunately I can’t tell the hotel staff to refund me, or take gas out of my tank and get a refund when client’s have such events happen. It sucks that people imitate those who genuinely stand by their deposits. But just have to be more vigilant. Don’t just look at pictures and contact info. Make sure 2 and 2 goes together. $175 deposit why? I would have a valid reason to give to the client. Which based on what you stated, is not necessarily 100%. Everything could have happened as stated, with some variations of the facts. But it would be not much different than an escort outing or messing with a client…and we all know how much the board guys frown on those providers who do that. At least you got your refund and on your way. Not sure what point there is to further entice penalizing them? Seems like overkill.. To be clear I DID NOT get my refund. They despite in my slew of text messages stating they would - never did. Now they either are not responding or blocked me So while I appreciate what you are saying they ARE SCAMMERS!!!!!!!! Btw my comment was semi joking !!! I'm sure some of us on this site have hired providers that were so disappointing that we fell we wasted our money. BeefyDude Posted March 17, 2023 Author Share Posted March 17, 2023 For what its worth, I do have an update First of all NO money from them (as if i will get that back) When this happened I filed a dispute with Venmo - where I clearly stated I DID SEND the payment but turned out to be a scam. Well Venmo mis-read that and thought someone scammed my account and they suspended my account. While finally talking to someone at Venmo who could explain this we had an interesting discussion. For me to get re-instated I had to do a few simple things. While not giving specific details and talking in general (person x and person y) I learned their venmo is suspended as well. They have to go through ALOT more hoops to get re-instated vs. what I did. ONE of these steps is to explain to venmo why they are not reversing the fee (Recall I sent them the text thread which they stated multiple times they would refund me). So while its likely I won't get my money back, if I caused them some pain or inconveniences or pain then HELL YEAH as they f-in deserve it. Venmo hinted that they would be taking serious look into them. Hopefully they got banned there.
