Depending on the jurisdiction, the age of consent varies from 16 to 18. I believe that in New York the age of consent is still 17. 
 

FWIW a majority of the states have the age of consent set at 18. Also a majority have ‘age gap’ laws which apply if both parties are young and close in age.
