You can always ask them if they are or are associated with law enforcement~

How many times must we tell you to use the 747121332_SarcasmAlert.jpg.e73854b5d49942fe4112bdd9dfc3beb4.jpg ?

Back to the topic. While I tend to be a "say what you mean/mean what you say" guy, everyone has a different comfort level regarding the things they do and say. That's why signs point to the "Restroom" and not the "Toilet."

I think it would be marvelous if providers could set themselves up as a charitable organization, and then I would be glad to make a donation to their cause and get a tax receipt in exchange.

It would take some ingenuity to avoid their charitable activities from being construed as a service. Maybe more like a religious activity or service, where donations made to the ministry are tax deductible.

Perhaps they could set up confessional booths in their premises where they could work their magic to unburden those seeking relief, just to keep things on the up and up.

That song was cut from the Boston tryout of "The Sound of  Music" in the Fall of 1959. All of performances of the musical were sold out .

Note: I lived near Boston then.

The King of Non-Sequiturs strikes again!

The song comes from a spoof album recorded in 1987, released in 1988....

I’m sad if I go home without there being a happy ending for all at the party~ Not because I like things ending but, because I like happiness and I want the happy not to end… So, I strive more “happy”~  I tend to like multiple endings of happiness~

When did sex workers start being called providers? That's a term that grinds my gears.

It is a generic term used to refer to sex workers but also non-sex workers like masseurs here on the forum.  I prefer "companion" instead of "provider".  Do you have a better generic term to propose?

like the others just above, I also much prefer the term "provider".....it's generic, non-controversial, respectful, and descriptive.....

in a perfect world, "sex worker" would be entirely acceptable....but we're not there yet.......and, of course, "escort" is one of those wink-wink words coined decades ago for this trade to cover up illegal activity....it's a quaint, dated, and tired word for this......

No matter the word or terminology we use to describe someone we hire, someone is likely to find fault in the description.

Please all and you please no one.

The term provider is descriptive and euphemistic, in my opinion.

I'm OK with euphemism. It's one of those habits of speech that grease the wheels.

I think there’s a difference between euphemism, circumlocution, and inaccuracy.

There’s also the whole mess of “paid for time” leading to providers who don’t want to take the time to discuss a possible booking because they think that should be billable time. We hate the comparison, but I’ll do it again. When you talk to the plumber to describe your problem or have a contractor over to look if they want the job, they don’t charge you for the setup consult. At least not in my experience. I just yesterday was texting a provider about meeting and asked a question about what he provides, to gauge compatibility, and his response was “We’ll be good. Remember I’m paid for my time and getting to know each other takes time.” So the whole coverup of sex work with “paid for time” has, in my opinion, led to that phenomenon. I can’t imagine that the whores of yore billed their clients by the minute…

They are "paid for time."  True, they are expected to provide some additional value in the span of time that they are paid for.  I'm a service professional and my service is metered by time.  If I call on the client, the clock starts running the moment I walk in the door, even if I'm sitting in the lobby waiting.  Of course, I'm expected to provide some value during the time I'm there - I don't just get paid for showing up.  And neither do providers.  And I'm very protective of my non-billable time.  I provide a free 15-minute telephone consult, that's it.

I have so many of the same frustrations that providers do - time wasters, no shows, people who think I charge too much, people looking for freebies, etc. that I'm in complete sympathy with them.   If I weren't so old, it could be my night job.
