Best Cities for Escorts?

I don't think you'll have any definitive answers. But I think part of the success of an escort relates to finding a "niche" that sets you a part from others in the market. To me that would be pretty difficult in a city like New York, LA or Las Vegas (or any city that has more than say 10 pages of Rent.Men ads) where there are established escorts that have pretty strong identities and lots of regular clients.

In that regard I think some of the more mid-size cities could be appealing because in many cases you would stand out a bit more among the sea of ads. I live in Denver and we typically have 3-4 pages of ads, allowing one to really kind of browse through the whole selection and seeing what's out there. Plus I feel like because there is 3-4 pages of ads, that must mean there is enough demand for both local and traveling escorts. And if a city has very few ads that maybe suggests there is just not a lot of clients there (but perhaps there are and they will appreciate you visiting).

I don't think even what I said is definitive but hopefully it maybe helps a little bit. I am a client and travel a lot to different cities and have talked to many escorts about the business, so that's kinda what I'm basing this on.

There's a thread on this (I'm too lazy), but DC definitely. General rule of thumb is NYC/DC/LA .

and yes, count the pages on RM.

Thanks. I tried to do a search and couldn't find the thread. I was in DC for the month of September 2020. I'm thinking of going there first. Since I live in monthly rentals the northeast is appealing since some of the major cities aren't too far apart.

I did a 4 day trip to LA recently and I found it may be a difficult place to work due to the traffic and distance between appointments.

If you decide to make travel part of your routine, it is also a good idea to add regulars in each city. Folks you can reach out to when you are planning a trip - it really helps take the pressure (financial and emotional) off if you can line up reliable clients ahead of time. I have a regular companion that I've been the anchor client for over the past 3 years. It works well for both of us - staying with me overnight when he arrives pays for his flight and his next day's hotel stay. ?

Thanks good point. Part of the reason I'm heading back to the east coast is to maintain some of the relationships I made last year. I should've saved more phone numbers though. Nice to know what to expect when re-visiting a place. My plan is a month in DC, Philly, and then NYC area. I heard some recommendations from female escorts that Boston is a great place to go. Housing is pricey but looking into there as well.

Where the people are. However, I never see San Antonio as a hotbed, even though it is a population mecca. Also, San Diego gets a bad rap often, primarily from travelers who don't get love from the locals when they're there.

I'd say NYC, DC, Miami, Houston, and LA are where over 90% of worthwhile people are at or near.

Why isn’t Chicago on the list? Currently, NYC, Chicago, LA, San Fran, Boston are the top 5 largest LGBTQ cities in the US. Now, this may not correlate with propensity for hiring, highest incomes (i.e., San Fran, San Jose, Seattle, DC, San Diego), or the quantity of competing escorts for the same market. It probably involves a very complex algorithm, but if i were marketing towards the LGBTQ population, i would target myself to the larger centers.

Chicago is simply ho-hum. Yes, it's a major population center, for sure, but when I scroll through to find someone, it's a lot of meh. The two things that are the big attraction are 1. What does his body look like, and 2. What does his cock look like? It's really hard to stand out from the pack if either your body doesn't have it going on, or if your penis isn't drool-worthy. As many others have mentioned both to me and everyone else : that's life.

Yes I've heard Chicago isn't too good. I had a client tell me a former regular of his moved there and struggled.

I left feedback in another thread for an escort asking about Miami. I thought it would be a profitable winter destination and it turned out to be pretty slow/bad. The average massage rate is also about $50 /hr less than in other cities. Tons of latin guys working.

I heard some recommendations from female escorts that Boston is a great place to go.

word to the wise and this isn’t sexist: how female (and even MTFs) escorts do on a tour, shouldn’t always be an indicator or deciding factor for what city will best. Miami is an example: some drive Mercedes and have brought condos off of selling sex. But we’ve already discussed the market for Miami/S. Florida for gay male escorts.

That said, Boston is good for other reasons...however I did 1 trip there back in 2009, and haven’t been back. It was “ok”, but there (was) also a plethora of flakes. However, I’ve said before; cities change, me as a provider changes, websites change. So I can’t mention how it would be now. Some cities that sucked years ago, I’ve gone and been run off my feet with bookings years later.

I would have liked to take a post-covid tour since hotels in even the most expensive cities have dropped substantially, but I don’t know for how much longer the trend will continue before I get out there.

I live in Denver and we typically have 3-4 pages of ads, allowing one to really kind of browse through the whole selection and seeing what's out there. Plus I feel like because there is 3-4 pages of ads, that must mean there is enough demand for both local and traveling escorts. I wish I could say you were correct, but I have to counter and say that it doesn’t quite work that way. In fact, it’s just the opposite. As someone who’s been touring since 2008, 90% of the time the more escorts there are, the less your chances are of making big numbers.

HOWEVER, I find there are exceptions. If a city is wealthy, large and “gay” enough to support the supply, it could work. These include San Francisco, Palm Springs (varies), Washington DC. But beyond those cities, I’ve not found hardly any large city that is brimming with escorts, to really be worth going without careful scheduling and/or a FEW anchor clients. These include Orlando, Atlanta, Dallas, LA, etc. Even places like Kansas City, Denver, Salt Lake City, Charlotte, Raleigh, and even Phoenix: these cities are not easy anymore like they used to back in earlier 2000s because so many guys are filling into these cities. And it also doesn’t help (well, actually it does in a way) that there’s not many sites competing. Clients used to be able to go to higher end or lower end sites. Now it’s just RentMen and Grindr.

For example, I went to a smallish Midwestern city last week (I can’t reveal all my secrets...which aren’t really secrets because I see more guys going to even the smaller cities from time to time). I literally went with NO notice. I just went spur of the moment to drive another escort up, after he missed his train. I was able to squeeze in 3 clients, and I could have had 5 or 6 if the others didn’t flake. Idk how my other escort friend did because he seemed kind of jealous and annoyed that I decided to stay in town. But we are different from each other (other than both being Black), so I wasn’t too concerned.

However, if a town has 0 escorts...say, some cowpoke town off the interstate, then no. Don’t expect anything unless a client happens to just call from that city. Happens with me every once in awhile. Tiny town with no escorts, and a client exists there. I actually spent some time in Fort Collins, and it was refreshing to get away from Denver. Denver starts to get annoying after awhile. It’s becoming like Phoenix in terms of “traffic”. I was at 1 hotel, and there was another escort staying right next door to me.

Like everyone has said, you won’t find a divinitie answer. Every city is different. Abs every trip to every city is different. Abs this goes for every escort. My best advice is to travel to cities where you stand out a little. But it may just be worth it to travel to see which cities stick.

I like how you said every trip to every city is different. It’s very true. You can do good in Washington DC one month, and go back a year or 2 later and be completely dead. And then a week later, be right back busy. True story lol.

Hi. I'm wondering what people think are the best places in the US to make money? Curious to hear both the client and escort perspective.

I've been in South America for a month and coming back to my car in Miami soon. I'm thinking of best direction to drive from there. I'm leaning towards hitting the Northeast.

it honestly depends.... for me I’ve noticed in places like Texas I get more business because I’m a hairy type guy, vers Miami I wouldn’t get anything at all because of the type smooth ab guys that are there.

San Diego used to be a hotbed for providers a few years ago when I was stationed there in the military. Guys like me who were in the closet would hire discreetly all the time. However I think when the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy went away so did the demand for escorts and bathhouses. I still visit often because it’s still a great city but it’s definitely lost the vibe it used to have.

Perhaps you can survey the market? Let's say you wanna start by the Northeast region, you are driving, you are starting from Miami. If you have a Rentmen profile, you can set a tentative itinerary including the cities you are more interested in. I am not an escort, so I am not sure whether or not this work, but perhaps you can see the response of prospective clients in different cities.

yes you @Bootybuilder should so some canvassing before going to a city. If you can find someone who wants you for an overnight and be your anchor client even better.

I have heard rumors that Seattle clients tend to be really loyal to their local escorts. And that traveling escorts can build regulars there, but that it's really challenging for most people who just try to visit without building a solid relationship with the city. Not sure if it's true, but it's something I've heard from some Seattle folks before.

I feel like the best cities to tour are the ones you can visit on a regular schedule. You can "court" a city over the years and gradually develop a very solid roster of regulars to the point where you don't even need to publicly advertise tours anymore. A lot of clients have a hiring "rhythm" you can tap into for how often they'll book you- for example every 2 months or every 6 weeks. If you can find a few regulars that'll book you every 6-8 weeks, use those appointments as anchors, and create a good text or mailing list of all the other guys who inquire (with their consent to be added of course), you can build a really solid clientele almost anywhere. Big cities with thriving escort/client scenes can definitely be profitable choices, especially if your brand really stands out amongst the crowd and you invest heavily in your marketing. But sometimes being a big fish in a small pond can be very valuable as well. That small midwestern city that no big name porn stars EVER visit may fill your pockets every six weeks if you play your cards right. You can pick a handful of cities that you'd like to develop these kinds of business relationships with and invest in them as a long-term project for good long-term outcomes. Been touring the US for 10 years and it's always worked out great for me, even (especially) when my brand has been really niche and you'd think it would not have widespread appeal in small cities etc.

Yeah that’s definitely a good point here. Sometimes you just have to go to a city over and over again, in order to build a rapport. Sometimes just going to a city 1 time and staying for a couple or few days just doesn’t cut it.

However, it’s also true that after awhile... sometimes a person can “burn” thru a city to a point where each visit can become substantially less profitable. Or sometimes that regular anchor client is no longer available... and then you realize without that person, it’s actually not worth the trip. I’ve had that happen with a few cities: places like Boise, Idaho and Salt Lake City were good for a couple of years, then it dried up and never rebounded. Even Minneapolis used to be a hit maker for me, but after a couple of years it too started drying up. I’ve attempted to go recently, but the level of unrest in recent months has me stalled.

I have found though that taking 2-3 year breaks from a city gives a chance for the pond the “replenish”. The town I’m in is so dead and dry: I haven’t had a “new” client in almost a month now, and even he has contacted me previously. There’s also some cities that I just rather not compete with. Dallas Texas is one of them. The potential is there, but on previous trips I get 1 client out of a banquet inquiries. When I do go, I make sure it’s not for the sole purpose of finding clients.

Yes it's definitely true that which cities work for any given person might change over time.

I find that the more niche one's service is, the less likely for the well to "dry up" tho, unless you move out of your niche or change price points drastically. Super niche service offerings tend to garner loyalty and longevity among client base, especially if your niche is an area in which you really excel and stand out among your peers. This is why I'm always encouraging people to get more specific about what they are into, cuz I noticed a drastic increase in my retention rate to the point where sometimes I'm actually shocked how many years later my clients are still trying to see me again. But it's usually *specifically* the ones that came to me for niche interests that have this kind of long-term retention.

But I've *definitely* experienced this phenomenon as well a lot over the years, especially since the earlier years of my career, where certain cities that used to make me bank suddenly weren't even profitable anymore. And funnily, some of those same cities came around again for me and started being worth my while again. LA is a great example of this for me personally.

LA:

Years 1-3 of my career: never visited cuz I was working on the East Coast primarily

Years 4-6 of my career: GREAT city for me to tour, always filled my pockets, and sometimes I was fully booked (3X/day) before arrival

Years 7-10 of my career: doesn't really respond to my ads well, get a few bookings every visit but it's breakeven at best

Year 10-present: great city for me to visit, responds well to my ads, clients fly me there for extended bookings, lots of inquiries for future bookings

My brand was definitely the most niche in the time periods where I've done well in LA (including now) so I assume that has played a huge role in the difference for me. I think in big flooded markets, being super niche is the easiest way to stand out and carve your own space out in a huge market.

I agree with Shawn. Every market is different. But smaller to mid-sized cities don't have the number of escorts you have in larger markets. Also, know your brand and what you really have to offer. In smaller to mid-sized cities, you might fill an unmet niche There are markets (cities) I could never compete in, while in other markets I'm always surprised by how well I do. Probably not as definitive an opinion as others, but that's been my experience.

Would be interesting to get a reply regarding this, but I know years ago I went out to Seattle. It wasn’t exactly brimming with biz at the time, but I’ve posted there and seem to get hits. I was considering to go last month, but I favored a warmer destination instead.

That said, it wouldn’t surprise me. One of my Seattle clients did tell me at the time, that people can be a bit uptight. He said Vancouver is a bit more liberal. I know in my experience riding thru Washington state, it’s gets a bit conservative there too once you get outside of the metropolitan. Though I have been curious to check out Spokane in Washington.

Then again, it seems a lot of cities could be like that. I know Chicago and Atlanta feels like a “regulars only” town. Like you just have to be there all the time, to make it happen. And if you’re traveling thru, you’re just one of the many traveling thru. But I personally wouldn’t feel compelled to move to a city that I can’t do good visiting

in, because who knows how long it could take to build a regular base.

I think you summed it up very well: there is no best city. Just have to find the one that works best for what you’re offering. That should be good news, considering it could mean that one doesn’t have to spend a bunch of money trying to compete in major markets, they can likely make something happen near or where they are.

I know in my case, I’ve pretty much just resolved to traveling. It’s my fantasy that I could own a private plane and just fly all over. Some cities (especially small to medium sized) end up drying up after a period of time, and unless you have an alternate gig in town tiding you over...a trip is a must.

I go back and forth to 1 city currently. My phone will be blowing up when I post in advance, but after about a week or 2 of being there it starts to mellow out. After about 3 weeks, I usually ready to move on again because it’ll be bone dry.
