This year my family Christmas celebration will be curtailed. The big extended family Christmas Eve event is cancelled. Christmas Day I'm going to have dinner with my sister, her husband and kids, and my mother. I'm on a self-imposed RM, FWB & Scruff hiatus until afterwards. I don't want to risk passing COVID to anyone, especially my elderly mother.

Is anyone else adjusting hiring, etc. to their Christmas plans?

In the past, I've not taken part in this hobby much after the first weekend in December, so this year will not be much different.

My work schedule is usually busy getting things completed prior to year-end. And then I spend time visiting my family out of town. By January, I'm ready to get back in the swing of things.

Both my parents have passed since 2016

I normally do Christmas Eve with my cousin and her son and his wife but she has COPD so I am staying away from her because of her comprised breathing condition

Christmas day I usually meet up with my Aunt and Uncle in Atlantic City but they are both in their late 80s

So again skipping a meetup with them as well. Do not want them traveling to AC and do not want to get them sick

So this year Christmas eve and Christmas day will be solo in Atlantic City. Was thinking about meeting with a provider earlier Christmas eve but plans seemed to have fizzled out

Homo alone for Christmas and NYE this year. Won't hire until I get vaccinated, but hopefully that's going to happen before the year ends (at least the first dose). I'll have to celebrate after I get my 2nd dose!

I did the total stop in March. It lasted a few months. Then I met with some regular FB's that I trusted and knew were being generally careful. While I tried to be somewhat selective I did get more adventurous and do some hiring during summer and early fall. One steady hire no longer runs an ad, sees only a few clients, and is super health conscious so I felt safer.

Some of the above comments have me wondering if I should again hit the pause button until the vaccine.

... I met with some regular FB's that I trusted and knew were being generally careful....

Especially these days, if you meet with someone who's not a member of your household, unless masked the whole time, you're not "generally careful." The only person I would feel safe with to see without a mask would be someone who's recovered from the infection within the last 6 months or so.

I know a local escort who gets tested every Monday at a nearby fire station and shows his results to his clients.

How accurate is that?

Christmas has ALWAYS been a super big deal for me. I spend the last two weeks of October decorating my 1200 sq. ft. condo with four themed Christmas trees and clear three wall units which I then decorate with hand carved Santa Clauses and tons of greenery. I then take off to Puerto Vallarta for a week to rest and relax. Upon my return I start cooking and baking for several Christmas Parties. THIS YEAR ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Since I can't have people in, I haven't put up a single decoration. A neighbor gave me some of her delicious homemade tamales so that’s what I will have as part of my solo Christmas Eve dinner.

Hopefully this covid bullshit will be behind us next year and we can start to live normally again.

I would definitely not be lulled into security by a negative result. The rapid fluorescent antigen test, the only one where you can get same-day results, is only 70% sensitive, and that's assuming you're looking at results from that day. My decorator (for my new house) had her son come from the university for Thanksgiving. He started getting achy on the Monday after Thanksgiving, and she, her son, and her husband all got tested and only the son was positive. She asked if she should be rechecked on Thursday. I told her to wait until Saturday, because it would be more likely to switch by then, and that I suspected that she and her husband were more than likely infected. To my surprise, Saturday's result was negative, but things turned south 2 days later, and she and her husband got re-tested and came out positive.

What WOULD give me comfort would be a positive result, which was over 2 weeks but less than 6 months old. That's your only nearly-sure bet. Unlike HIV, with this disease, you want to meet someone who's had a positive test...

Been on pause since February.

Will fuck like a banshee 10 days after my first vaccine shot (God help that man).

The first shot is only about 2/3 protective. You probably won't get so sick as to need hospitalization if you get it after the 1st dose, but you could still get sick and pass it onto others. I'll be raring to go 10 days after the 2nd shot. Your comment "God help that man" reminds me of a Mexican police-comedy movie I saw many years ago. There's a scene in which the police captain is speaking to other officers and says "In this, the largest city in the world (referring to Mexico City), a woman gets raped every 20 minutes." One of the officers then says "Why doesn't someone go out and help that poor woman!"... ?

Your last sentence requires comment. If someone has tested positive for HIV and successfully reduces their viral load to undetectable through antiretroviral meds, they become un infectious. They may be a better bet than hooking up with someone who says they are negative but hasn't been tested since their last hookup.

My boss just texted me earlier today. I'm getting my first dose tomorrow morning! I feel a little guilty since I'm retiring so soon... But I feel as if I've put in my time. In just 4 weeks I'll feel as free as a bird (after my 2nd dose). I'm feeling elated! Am I the first on the forum to get shot?

Perhaps you are! Please let us know how it goes and report any unusual sequelae.

I’m surprised that you would feel “as free as a bird”after your second shot. Here they are counselling those who get the shots soon to keep their guards up as there is still so much virus circulating in the community. This would be especially the case in California where things are out of control.

Now there is every reason to believe the new variant of the virus is circulating undetected so far in the US and Canada but likely already on our shores. This variant, if it takes hold, will spread the disease even faster. The vaccinations are definitely a good protection but not 100 percent. Also it is not yet determined whether they will stop the inoculated from giving the virus to others.
