I'm now vacationing in the Republic of North Macedonia, and I just saw this program on CNN discussing the "scourge" of porn addiction. Narrated by a stodgy woman, she lamented about how easy it is to find porn on the internet, irrelevantly and gratuitously adding that minors have access to this porn. According to wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_addiction

"The concept of sexual addiction is contentious.[6][7] There is considerable debate among psychiatrists, psychologists, sexologists, and other specialists whether compulsive sexual behavior constitutes an addiction, and therefore its classification and possible diagnosis. Animal research has established that compulsive sexual behavior arises from the same transcriptional and epigenetic mechanisms that mediate drug addiction in laboratory animals; however, as of 2018, sexual addiction is not a clinical diagnosis in either the DSM or ICD medical classifications of diseases and medical disorders. Some argue that applying such concepts to normal behaviors such as sex, can be problematic, and suggest that applying medical models such as addiction to human sexuality can serve to pathologise normal behaviorand cause harm."

And that just talks about "sexual addiction," not even "porn addiction."

"Addiction is a brain disorder characterized by compulsive engagement in rewarding stimuli despite adverse consequences."

Well, what could possibly be an "adverse consequence" to watching porn? I doubt that there are people who watch so much porn that they can't do their job or other essential activities in their life. I mean, getting one's rocks off is just a biological function. Is taking a dump a sign of "toilet addiction"? She just came off like a stuck up bitch to me. Do any of you believe in the concept of "porn addiction"?

Sexual addiction (hypersexuality), yes. Porn addiction, no. But that may be because I have never seen the appeal of porn - it's never really moved the needle for me. (Terry Crews may disagree with my point of view - it's not a new topic for CNN: https://www.cnn.com/2016/02/24/entertainment/terry-crews-porn-addition-feat/index.html )

Lisa Ling’s new season comes out Sunday 9/29 on CNN with a show on porn. Maybe he caught an earlier schedule of that? Lisa Ling is NOT a “stodgy woman” however!

I probably do.... I enjoy porn, and view it often when I am bored or have no plans to do anything. Postings pics in the gallery here is IMO a mild form of porn addiction for me. I enjoy the hunt, and sharing my turn-ons with you guys. However, my porn watching is NOT uncontrollable, so I don't think there is any need for me to worry bout it.

No, I don't believe in porn addiction. What I do believe is that porn is much more available and that individuals are not seeing others and satisfy urges with available porn. I am sure that if there had been polls before the internet they would have been shown that individuals still "pleased themselves" to pretty much the same extent as they do now.

And I for one am very happy for whatever mild porn addiction that results in your posts in the Gallery section. ;) :p :p :p

Just explaining why I was watching CNN. It was an international broadcast. And yes, I think it was Lisa Ling. She seemed to have an axe to grind. I think it would be difficult to argue, as far as I can tell, how watching porn can be an addiction. Just because an activity is rewarding to a person, and perhaps not to another, doesn't meet the definition of "addiction." And, of course, she mentioned that 95% of those she felt "addicted" to porn are men. It's called hormones, dear.

Јас сум изненаден што не го гледате локалното ТВ програмирање. Тоа рече, не сум сигурен дека верувам во зависност од порно, сам по себе.

I watch English-language programs because my Macedonian is rusty... ;)

Just looked her up on Wikipedia...

"Lisa Ling identifies herself as a "die-hard feminist".[34]

She was diagnosed with attention deficit disorder.[35]"

Yeah, I guess she does have an axe to grind. Well, pay attention lady: enjoying porn is not an addiction!

And we very much appreciate your hunting, gathering and sharing.

Porn addiction is real.

I personally ditched basically half of my senior year of high school because I could not stop watching porn and jacking off. Also had to make up a college course or two after missing writing assignments and going from typing to surfing porn and have been late to work in previous jobs. One of the reasons I choose to do sex work is because it's an outlet for all that horniness and I feel I can focus on school assignments and other priorities more than when porn occupied a lot of my time.

Well, if you actually were unable to do classes because of porn consuming your life, then I guess you really did have an addiction. In all the thousands of patients I've had in my life, or thousands of people I've met in my life, you're the first person I've heard about who's had this problem. I suspect that an obsession of this level is quite rare, though--much rarer than Ms. Ling seemed to imply in her CNN story. If you haven't done so already, I would ask your doctor to order a blood test to check your free testosterone level. There are such things as testosterone-producing tumors. I've just never heard of anything on this level before

I suspect you need to broaden your thinking....listening to Lisa Ling or not ...porn addiction if a pretty well acknowledged behavior.

This is one of dozens of articles that will pop up if you google it:

Well, as the wikipedia article states, it's not an official diagnosis in the psychiatric armamentarium, and the issue is controversial, not "pretty well acknowledged." A major issue is that ejaculation, unlike other addictions such as gambling, alcohol, heroin, and so on, is a normal physiological behavior. That being said, if there truly are people who are unable to do their jobs or complete academic classes due to porn, then that would appear to meet the definition of addiction. Notwithstanding a poster who said he could JO 3 to 4 times a day, probably most people can't effectively JO more than once or maybe twice, so it's difficult to imagine that a porn obsession could occupy so much of a person's time. And, since most of it is free, also hard to imagine it could lead to financial hardship. So I suspect that a true addiction, if one could call it that would be quite rare.
