Hallo,

I am in conversations with an escort about getting together next week when I am visiting his city. I enquired about his rates and he responded "$xxx per hour for an outcall to a hotel, plus travel"

I'm not clear on what the plus travel means, and I don't want to seem like a complete idiot by asking him. Does "travel" mean his hourly rate for travelling to my hotel? Is it travel costs (like taxi or uber fees)? And, is it normal to charge "travel" for an outcall in the same city that the escort lives in?

Thanks,

OJ

The only one who can definitively answer what "plus travel" means is the escort. If his response makes you feel like a complete idiot, then you decide whether or not you still want to hire him.

"Plus travel" usually means the expense of him traveling from his residence to the hotel if it requires more than public transportation. If it matters to you, you might want to ask him how much he estimates it will cost him. Depending on the city, the location of the hotel, and his location, it may be in double figures.

The more interesting question is - will his travel time count towards the hourly fee that you are booking him for? For example, you hire the dude for an hour, outcall. It takes him 30 minutes to travel to you, one way. Do you owe him 1 or 2 hours? Make sure to clarify that.

I think it is time for us clients to be more assertive. If a guy posts an 'outcall' rate, the travel time and expense should be on his own dime. That is just his cost of doing business!

9 times out of 10 it's Uber fare and does not come out of the hour. Best is to arrange an Uber for him to you and one back. That way you get the charge and he gets rides. It also provides more safety since you have a record of his address on your Uber. Much less chance of danger.

Not a stupid question. It’s not a standard request. Ask him what he means and how much it will be. Don’t leave it open-ended.

Yes, as others have mentioned, get a detailed quote for bottom-line total cost. Honest escorts with good business acumen won't mind. Ambiguity in business transactions usually ends with misunderstanding, anger, and resentment by one or both parties.

Not a dumb question but it probably means just whatever the cost is for an uber or taxi. Obviously depends on what city you're in. Another way of figuring it out is if you're due to meet at a certain time at your Hotel as an example, it is completely reasonable to figure out for both of you what an estimated time would be for him to get to where you want him to go purely from a logitstical point of view. Figuring that out in a respectful manner can help ease into that conversation in figuring out "how much" it could be in travel costs, but typically in my experience that transit time is "not on the clock".

Uber seems to be a request more and more. Before Uber, I don’t remember escorts asking for taxi fare very often if at all.

Do these new escorts not have their own cars anymore? I understand this can vary in cities such as NYC etc.

Since Uber it's not really asking for the fare per se, it's asking for the ride to you and back. I doubt many guys anymore care to deal with driving, getting directions, parking, or public transportation. It's a wasteful PITA compared to the client sending you a quick ride from your door to his. You don't explain to the provider how to get to you, you just give Uber your location on the app and his pickup address. Takes seconds. It's $10 well-spent by the client in making the provider happy and getting him to you on time. It also lets the provider know that you're a for-real client.

Funny you should make that comment. In cities like Chicago, San Francisco, and New York (where using public transit and uber/lyft/taxis is common) I've not encountered escorts charging for travel expenses. However, when I was visiting San Diego (where I lived for sixteen years and would host at my home) I had more than one escort mention me covering travel. The reason given (and a quick walk around the hotel proved it to be true) was street parking was restricted, hotel parking was expensive, and public transit is not very convenient or reliable.

I've been asked for Uber a couple of times. I don't do it, because if the guy just asked the driver, he'd have my full real name. I avoid that.

So I usually just have to say "I'll add $xxx" to cover any travel costs, and it if is less just keep it.

There are no dumb questions.Ask away. My feeling is outcall rates should have already factored in travel time, since the outcall rate is always higher than the incall rate. Other things to consider are...does the provider drive to you-from far away ? Are you staying in a downtown hotel that charges for parking ? A lot depends on the city.If you are staying in a hotel in a big city and the provider is driving,it seems fair that he would charge for mileage, parking fees, etc. If he is dragging along a massage table-that is a hassle.too.

Always ask what the rate is.It's a fair question, and make sure travel time is NOT part of your "fun" time. If his travel rates seem high.-consider Ubering to him for an incall. I always prefer incall as I want to be on the providers home turf.He may have "interesting" items at home that he does not take on outcalls. Always be sure to check a providers reviews. Many are just hung tweakers trying to make a fast buck. Nothing worse than wasting money on someone who really isn't in to what they advertise.
