@tassojunior– That’s right. There are ways to come into the country without it being about the prospect of marriage. That isn’t to say you can’t get married on, say, a student visa. It’s probably safer for all parties involved if the immigrating party comes in some other way than the K1.

I think the posters here were genuinely trying to help the OP with their advice and comment on the possible pitfalls of his plan. 

Wether it's conscious, or unconscious, virtue signaling, or if some are in fact offended by the OP's use of the word "Imported", the implication was clearly tongue-in-cheek, a sly reference to how different from, not similar to, his situation is to bringing in, say, foreign cigars.  
You all remind me of the students in that Netflix Sandra Oh show about professors, wherein one, hot in a nebbish way (but the actor is not Jewish), professor lost everything  after making a small, sarcastic, Nazi Salute that was, in the context of what he was explaining in lecture, completely useful.  
 

Things might have changed during Trump's term, but importing brides from Asia was pretty common among straight guys.  I don't know the mechanics, but they would jet off to the Phillipines or another place in SE Asia and come back married.   One of my older brothers did it.  His first wife was white.  Their marriage ended when his wife caught him in an affair with an Asian woman in another city.    I don't remember how long he was single after that, but then he made a couple trips to the Phillipines and came back with a wife.  They've been happily married for probably about ten years.

What's with this picture? I find it offensive and nasty to the OP.

I noticed some time ago that lonely_john had not posted or visited this site since he started this thread on Dec 11. Prior to that he was a frequent poster on many topics for one who had only joined the forum as a member just a year or so earlier.
I wonder what has happened. He asked for no negatively in the responses offered and by and large members here gave him thoughtful responses imo. 
One reason I noticed him is that he is a fellow Canadian and there are relatively few of us on this forum, according to stats I have read here (less than 2 percent).
I hope all is going well with him and perhaps it is and he no longer requires this sounding board to express himself. I remember I abscented myself from this site for a number of years and then came back as couple of years ago. Things sometimes go that way. 

Eh? I’m very surprised @xyz48B. First, you consider a thread started only 8 weeks ago as “oooold”. But secondly, you then express your distaste.

Believe the poster is in Canada, so it would be a permanent residency card.

@lonely_john, our very own @Unicorn has experience in this area. You'd be wise to consult with him.

Based on your first post, it sounds like you and he have had many more interactions/talks around sex than around the idea you've told us about.  I propose you reverse that.

I like this idea.

Perhaps a long thread but, fairly consultant one with a common message from both those who have done this and those who have not: exercise caution. See the good sides and potential complications/dangers with open eyes~ The general situation here is taking on the role of a parent. A good thing to consider in this situation is whether or not the one adopting/taking on the new kin, is ready to be a full time/part time responsible parent~ …and is the one being adopted ready to be a full or part time responsible son/daughter~ 

My honest advice:  DO NOT DO IT….  This is a very heavy legal and emotional lift. I have done it. Worst experience of my life. (I had my head in the clouds. Thought I loved him. I was in love with idea of being in love).  And the main reason you should not go down this path: you do not love him. 

If you go down this road - you are 100% responsible for ALL of his needs until he becomes self-sufficient. Especially if you marry. Then during the marriage he has 100% access to everything you have. A prenup is only in case of breakup. 
 
I hope you fully understand all of the ramifications.  Please carefully consider all angles.
