Yes, there is a workaround. It's called a "Backdoor Roth IRA". I've been doing it every year since 2020 when my income surpassed the limits to contribute to a Roth IRA directly. You first contribute to a traditional/non-deductible IRA, and then immediately (maybe one day later after the funds transfer) transfer everything from the traditional IRA to the Roth IRA. As long as you (1) didn't have any other existing money in the traditional IRA from previous years, and (2) didn't earn or lose money during the time the money sat in the traditional IRA, it's very easy and costs no additional money in taxes. You just fill out IRS Form 8606 at the end of the year, telling the IRS you removed all the money from the traditional IRA the same year you put in in, it didn't grow, and you didn't deduct the money from your income therefore you don't owe taxes on the transfer. Important things to remember: 1. Completely empty the traditional IRA account every year by December 31. 2. Keep the money in the traditional IRA in cash, or money market, and only for a short while (like 24 hours), so it doesn't grow in value. You'll have to pay taxes on anything that grows in value while it stays in the traditional IRA.

I misread your question. I previously posted about a Roth 401k, which is not the same as a Roth IRA that were you asking about
-
It just depends on if your company has voted to allow a Roth version in their 401k. Most companies have by now, but a few haven't. About a decade ago, I asked by HR Benefits Manager about a Roth 401k at our company. After about 6 months of asking, he says we didn't do it because it would cost IT to modify the Oracle payroll software to allow it, and it just wouldn't be worth their costs if fewer than 50 employees were interested in the Roth 401k. At our next annual Benefits seminar, I raised my hand to ask the crowd about interest in a Roth 401k and, sure enough, hundreds of employees were interested. A few weeks later we had a Roth 401k and the HR Benefits Manager called me first to let me know it was available before announcing to the rest of the employees.

I owe more than I'd like. I used to be debt free except for my mortgage until 2020. Then a bunch of household repairs all came due at once: Water pipe leak/mold remediation, HVAC system replacement, water heater replacement, damaged garage door, exterior house repaint, broken toilets, replaced all exhaust vents and smoke detectors; all within 2020-2023. And, I embarked on my most expensive holiday yet: two gay river cruises in Europe in 2023. That leaves me with $100k on zero interest credit cards and low-interest HELOC that I used to finance these improvements/repairs/travel. I finally decided to stop contributing to my 401k/Roth IRA and instead use the money to more quickly pay down this debt.

The death of the phone call as a method of communication

My father remembers telephones before dialing. He said it was great because there were no wrong numbers or "spam" calls. -
The death of the phone call as a method of communication

My father grew up using quill and ink in elementary school. He didn't use a fountain pen until high school. I only used quill and ink a few times in my childhood on documents and crafts that were intended to be kept for posterity. -
The death of the phone call as a method of communication

There was an episode of MadMen that touched on this subject. Although it was in the 1960s, and the worry was that sending a telegram was becoming a lost art as long distance telephone calls became more common. The advertising campaign they came up with is that you can't hold a voice announcement of good news in your hand, but you can with a telegram. So use telegrams for important messages that you will want the recipient to keep (announcement of a new baby, new job, etc). I am aware of people who prefer text messages specifically for the reason that they can view the transcript of the conversation days, months, even years later . -

Woman suing Hershey over Chocolate Pumpkins

The package says Pumpkin, not Jack-O-Lantern. She should have looked for the package that said Jack-O-Lantern of that's what she wanted. -
Is going to college still worth it?
+ Vegas_Millennial replied to marylander1940's topic in Personal Finance & Investing
Yes, I am a first generation college graduate, too. The best advice I received in high school was to talk with an older professional in the career I wanted to be in, and ask them about how they got started. My parents suggested I talk with my science teacher who was a retired engineer. My parents said they had no idea what engineers did, but that they're good at math (math was my best subject) and they get paid more than either of them did! So I talked to my high school science teacher and learned about engineering classes at a cheap community college. -

But that usually means completing advanced education. Unfortunately, too many students drop out half way through, saddled with half the debt but none of the increased earning potential of a completed degree. My parent was concerned that I chose to attend a state school instead of a higher priced university. My academic advisor told me that choosing a school that I was comfortable at and more likely able to finish a degree, was better than attending but then dropping out of a "better" school that was not the right fit for me. I am glad I listed to my advisor. -

How interesting if he answers that he's following his doctor's advice for both, but his doctor's advice for him is not necessarily the same as your doctor's advice for you.

I use that time to do a Bible Study. But I avoid some of the over-stimulating books in the Old Testament.

This whole thing sounds like a joke 🤣

Or in this case, they both have steaks 🥩 in the transaction (I couldn't help myself)

@blkjonow You may have better luck changing the title to ask about a masseur. Most, if not all, of the suggestions on this website are about men, not women. It is called a Company of Men, after all.

Relax. It's all about perspective. Just a few days ago you posted that you had a RM conversation with a provider, and it was YOU who were "afraid to commit". Remember that you have successfully met with providers in the past, and follow the formula of what works. Brief conversations. Keep discussions to date, location, and price. Don't pay in advance. If you're having conversations with providers via RM and are "afraid to commit", they may be blocking you. Not because of your age or weight, but because they don't want to waste their time on conversations for which they aren't being paid.

This is true. Women get into much more frequent accidents then men, but their accidents are less severe (fewer injuries or deaths than accidents caused by men). Their less aggressive nature also means they're less defensive. Don't ask me how they frequently hit parked cars and stationary buildings, science doesn't have an answer for that one yet. But, they hit those objects at much slower speeds than men, causing fewer deaths from accidents.

Please, please be careful on the road this New Year's Weekend. Lots of men will be drinking and letting their wives drive.

“You can be young without money but you can't be old without it. You've got to be old with money because to be old without it is just too awful, you've got to be one or the other, either young or with money, you can't be old and without it. - That's the truth, Brick...” ― Tennessee Williams, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
