Because one can’t always be bothered with “phone interviews” for something that’s not going to last very long. You want to talk on the phone for 15 min for a massage that’s going to last all of an hour? Reference the resources available per your potential masseur. It’s always struck me as odd that American clients need so much reassurance before booking.
 
Speaking personally (and it may be a generational thing as someone mentioned above), I don’t need to talk to a client on the phone unless it’s a multiple hour session, overnight or weekend, as the logistics are a bit different.
