Just seems like a simple request that I feel most escorts would be able to accommodate.  Luckily a number of guys I meet are world class cuddlers.

I don’t think you can make the assumption that it’s not legit.  Some may be new to the business and want to get a foot hold and get some experience. Some may have severe financial pressures that necessitate them lowering their rates.  Some may just have such a high sexual drive that they need sex all the time.
 
By all means, be cautious and look for the negative warning signs.  But also don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.

@hawk, it’s good that you have had the opportunity to respond.  Perhaps a bit more emphasis on objective fact rather than offensive embellishment might help you come out like smelling roses though.  Since it seems you’re southern, I’m sure you’re well trained in the gentle art of verbal self defense…use it   But, either way, it’s clear there’s more to the story and you deserve to be heard  
@Jordoncrag, I do have a sense - right or wrong - that you left out some relevant details in your OP.  These guys have a tough job.  Assist them with clearly defined expectations, outstanding hygiene, respect for both them and their “home” and a bit of grace and they’ll want you coming back for more.  First meetings are especially awkward and warrant a ton of grace in the review arena.
I suspect that both sides might learn something from this encounter if yiu assess how this escalated  into a bad experience for both of you   
 

I am a couple of years into seeing him regularly, usually at least one time per month.  Communication has been a breeze, and I’ve had no problems with him not being on time for our meetings.
I’d send a final message saying you feel like you’ve been ghosted and asking why.  Reaffirm your willingness to meet.  Then tell him if he’s ever interested in meeting to reach out back to you, but I would expect an explanation of why you were ghosted.  
 
He travels a lot, but I know he intends to stay close to Houston for the next month or two.

I understand feeling sorry for him, but personally, I felt his over sharing was with the intent of manipulating me.  And again when I met him, he was in no condition to be meeting anybody.

I met him and thought he was extremely high on something.  He also shared with me a lot about his personal trials. It definitely felt uncomfortable and I cut our meeting short, but I felt sorry for him..  I would not recommend playing with him bare.
