I never know who’s on the other side of the conversation. It’s best for me to be cautious. Some clients do not get the hints so most of the time they do not book me.

It seems to me that it would only improve things to expand the definition of true top to anyone who loves topping and is good at it. That won't erase personal preferences for the straight-seeming macho type, but it might lead to less stereotyping and a future where preferences would be more varied.

I may be outdated, the research in human sexuality is hard to keep up with nowadays, but the whole concept of "top" and "bottom" doesn't really have a biological basis. They're culturally constructed concepts based on a whole host of biases, assumptions, and ideas around gender, sexuality, power, pleasure, and more.
 
Physiologically, generally speaking, pretty much any man is capable of "topping" or "bottoming." Psychologically, it's a very different matter because cultural/environmental experiences are more powerful.
 
For example, and speaking in a grossly general way, research is leading to an idea about psychological issues and their psychosomatic expressions as a driver in ED cases, though that doesn't minimize physiological causes. I advertise as vers/bottom and I don't think it's false advertising, but it's definitely a lot harder for me top than it is to bottom, and I think it'd really depend on the client.

I think there are more bottoms than tops, in general. It seems there are more top escorts than bottom escorts. But the high number of top escorts is a reflection of the fact that most of the guys doing the hiring are bottoms. Supply and demand.

I'm an unapologetic "total" bottom. I haven't tried to top anyone in decades. Early on I believe that I was interested in topping because I was ashamed to be gay, and I thought that topping somehow lessened the stigma -- as a concession to our homophobic culture's perception of faggots who take it up the ass. Later I would top partners who imagined themselves to be mostly top, but who wanted to bottom for me. Some of those guys honestly wanted to bottom from time to time, but with others it was just poor communication between myself and tops who thought I wanted to top them too. The primary reason I seek out "total" tops is because the emphasis is often necessary. I've also known of escorts and guys looking for hookups on A4A who prefer that their public personas are those of "total" tops; they're very versatile when they date, but the image they portray online and to the guys they meet casually is one of a guy who doesn't bottom -- again for a variety of reasons, including some form of vanity or being uncomfortable with the homophobic stigma of being a bottom.
 
I believe your interpretation of the situation is misguided. The expectations of total bottoms is not what is distorting the meaning of top or "total top" in the market. You're dealing with a reality of gay life. It's always been impossible to distinguish between the desires of men who are tops and men who are tops. As a total bottom it's not my fault that men are inconsistent in their self-assessment as tops. For any number of reasons some guys are less than honest about their own sexual interests and expectations.

The guy bottoming is the most vulnerable one to get a wide arrange of harms.
My sources tell me there is not shortage of tops, there is shortage of good tops. If you are a self-centered lover in a money power trip, imagine the damage you can do down there. A sex worker cannot afford to be harmed.

Also, please have some space for our vulnerability. I think many guys who might normally bottom here and there may not as escorts because it invites another level of vulnerability he may not want to commit to.

I've known three escorts hired by very rich gays: Calvin Klein and David Geffen. In the case of David Geffen, the escort was flown to LA from NY on a private jet for the encounter.
 
In all three cases, the escorts just charged their normal fees. These guys worked the Gaiety or advertised normally. They had exceptional beauty and great personalities. They could all be considered "elite" but no special agency.

Logically, if you think about it, you need
1. People who have hired them before to know that you have enough money to pay the elite escorts.
2. These same people to happen to know that you are looking for such escorts.
3. These same people to trust you with a secret about this whole business, and also to like you enough to have a reason to introduce you into the circle.
 
So it relies on being “visible” and friendly to other rich people that likely have hired in the past, and on a bit of luck, because I assume just being rich is not a guarantee to have such connections.
