Thank all of you for sharing these experiences and perspectives.  I recently hired a RentMasseur masseur who delivered as advertised $180 for 60min. The massage was average (not bad), with the extras appropriate to the overall cost.  I texted a short note of appreciation after the session not expecting a response.  He the texted back thanking me for the note and saying that he offered “full service” if I wanted to come again later in the week.  We were both traveling, it wasn’t possible, and I didn’t want to spend any more $$. A couple of months later, I was in that masseur’s city and texted for availability and asked what the full service option was.  He texted back that it was $500 and all that came with it, clearly an escort deal which I was not interested in and too rich for me.  I politely texted thank you but the price was too high for me.  He then came down considerably, which was nice, but it just felt a bit awkward and not quite “au fait” with what the reduced price included, and after all that I didn’t even know what I wanted anymore, so I declined.  But better this than the upsell on the table which I cannot abide.

The "Since I haven't heard from you..." message seems unnecessary and a bit passive-aggressive.  If I were a provider, I think I would find it off-putting.
If the provider doesn't ever respond, I take them off or move them down my list.  If they respond and I'm still free, great, let's do it.  If they respond more than 4 hours later (to use your example) and now I'm booked with someone else, I politely respond that I've made another plan and will reach out again another time, and they will likely understand that they may have missed a booking due to the time it took them to respond.
It's easy to assume the worst when you don't hear anything, and there are certainly flakes out there, but providers generally don't have receptionists, and they are balancing their business with their private lives.  I know it can sometimes feel like it, but it's almost never personal.

Because escorts and massuers don't have an answering and scheduling service, I do not expect an answer until about 4 hours after my initial message.  They could be with a client, at the gym, eating a meal, taking a nap, working their day job, or watching a matinee Broadway show.
To @Kevin Slater's point, I never contact more than one provider at a time, because it would be rude on my part if they both respond back that they're available, but now I need to cancel on one of them and have wasted their time.
So, I try to make initial contact 2 days in advance to schedule.  I state the day, timeframe, and location I'm looking for, then wait.  If they haven't replied in 4 hours, I reply with "Since I haven't heard from you, you must be busy.  I'm going to try another provider, but let me know if your availability changes".  Then I repeat with someone else.
With this method, I usually find someone within 1-4 tries.  Maybe 1 out of 4 will not respond.  Another 1 out of 4 responds within minutes.  And the other 2 out of 4 respond within 1-3 hours.  Usually my first, second, or third try succeeds in scheduling a meeting.  Sometimes people are just busy for the time I want.
IF I'm super horny and want right NOW, then I stick with contacting one of my regulars a few hours in advance, and they respond probably a little more quickly than if I was a new client.

That is super frustrating especially when you just made the appointment. That guy sounds like he just wanted to do something else that day but didn’t want to say that and so used a lame excuse about “not confirming.” Who knows? I’m sorry that happened to you. I’ve had providers cancel on me last minute for reasons I felt (knew?) were bogus but I could not prove it and so didn’t want to risk falsely accusing someone. 

I just had a different/ maybe more annoying experience. Late the other night I made an appt with someone for the following afternoon - and as I was heading down the subway steps he texted to cancel because I hadn’t confirmed that day. I mean, I’d made the appt 12 hours before. If you need a different type of conformation you should probably tell potential clients. On the hunt for a new regular and he and I have mutual friends who said he was sweet and amazing so I had high hopes.   

Doubly frustrating when you live in a city with limited options and don't have the luxury of blacklisting an otherwise attractive/skilled masseur >:(

If you plan to attend you might want to make hotel reservations NOW. You can always cancel later if you decide not to make the trip. Palm Springs is already bursting at the seams. All the snow birds who have been stuck in cold country, because of Covid19, for the last two years are ON THE MOVE. Some have already arrived. I always try to book there first appointment of the day between 10 am and 2 pm.  Noon is usually the best, especially for the younger providers who like to sleep in.  They are horny as shit in the am too.  I know that is difficult for some clients.  I always ask "what works for them?" Go when they offer a discount that is usually when they are slow.

The appointment was originally at 10pm.  He contacted me at 8pm to ask to push it back to 10:30.  I showed up 10:32 and sent a text message.  I waited 15min and, hearing nothing, drove home.  He messaged me 4am saying that he'd fallen asleep.  I messaged back that I'd assumed that that is what happened.  No other communication after that.

He did cut the price in half which I thought was generous of him.  But as he was sincere and just worn out, I paid him the whole fee.  I’ve been there when I needed to work and was just too tired for whatever reasons. 

There is a site where masseurs/escorts post info but the intelligence on clients is only about time wasters such as those who no show or try it on with payment. The other information is things like advice on advertising, room hire, health etc. It’s a UK site so is mostly relevant to Uk sex workers. It’s not as busy as this site is although there is a similarity in that it uses the same forums layout and style, must be same software. 

 

Man I hear you.  It just doesn’t add—especially when they reach out to you and then nothing. If all of this were on a volunteer basis that would be one thing, but then it is a transaction for a service that involves money and time for both provider and client it is a different world (in my book, I realize others may not see it this way). I do not expect a provider to always want me as a client and they have every right to say no.  What I get frustrated with is the lack of communication when commercially one does have the expectation to either be accepted or denied.  I’m ok if a provider doesn’t want to take me as a client and just says so, even without a reason… but ghosting, no.  It’s unprofessional.

You know I have wondered if there was a site like this for masseurs who discussed clients. Haha. I know there are masseurs / providers on this site and I always appreciate their thoughts and perspectives. 

As a client, I've missed 2 massage appointments because I took a nap and overslept my alarms.  Life happens.  I apologized profusely.  I was still able to meet with one of the massuers albeit over 30 minutes late, and tipped extra.

The first guy in the duo is from South Africa and Ihave seen him a few times on previous trips to Capetown before he moved to the US pre-covid.  He was quite good.  PM me for details of you want. 

I’m with the OP on this one. It’s incredibly frustrating. 
I just had a masseur do it to me. He reached out to me saying he’s back in town (I had hired him once before so he had my number). So he’s marketing to me. Told him I definitely would be hiring and would get back to him. When I reached out to make an appointment, no response. No response at all. WTF?
It’s very strange to me these guys do this.
