NYC buried it's homeless problem for decades so it APPEARED like it had improved through the early 2000s but like most cities it was a matter of sweeping the problem under the carpet. Discussing homelessness and the root causes of drug addiction and mental illness can not be guaged by casual observation walking around the streets of a city. And even putting a roof over their head (temporarily) doesn't solve the actual problem.

From the very start the issue is being misrepresented. "Homelessness" denotes and portrays the issue as a lack of housing for people. There is no lack of housing for poor people. There is plenty of housing sitting empty in many former industrial cities across, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and New York State. What is lacking in housing is a FREE place to crash in RICH districts. A favorite combination for drug dealers who live off the welfare check and make a substantial income from sales of party favors. Conversely, the rest of the so called "homeless" problem are mentally ill and the people who TAKE the drugs supplied by the other formerly "Homeless" drug dealers. You can provide housing for a mentally ill person and he will be back on the street within the year. They don't need housing, they need care. Serious care. All of that costs MONEY that nobody wants to spend. Most of the game played with your tax dollar is a matter of begging for $ 50M for this worthy cause. Then spending $ 10M, patting yourself on the back, for solving the problem. Under budgeting the maintenance and administrating costs and stealing the $ 40M balance and buying you and your cronies better houses for yourselves.

A large majority of these so-called "homeless" are drug addicts and mentally ill. You can provide them with a home but they won't be able to keep it. They will destroy it and be out in the street within the year. It happens all the time. Its a failed system and only the mental institution system was able to help these people. But sadly this system was ended when Civil Rights lawsuits prevented people from being housed and treated "against their will".

The thousands of times it's been evoked over the last two decades when people were discussing the horrible state of healthcare insurance in the US. They keep pointing to Canada as having figured it out. I am guessing because the Canadians are the "most like us". Apparently not because it was actually not true.

I remember going to the parade in the 90s and marveling at all the hot gay men. It was a fun joyfilled event. Historically if you watch how these monies are spent, there is VERY VERY little useful product generated from "homeless outreach funding". It's a good guess therefore that there is VERY heavy skimming from that cookie jar. Charity is all too often an easy smoke screen for theft. Claim you are doing "good things" for the disadvantaged and the call for an audit is always disregarded as an insult. Sadly, the poor have no voice to report the lack of help from reportedly well funded organizations. So this goes on year after year.

Well there's no cars on Fire Island so the chauffeur would definitely be left back at the estate. No real need for your valet since everyone is half-naked most of the time. You'd definitely need the maids because there's always sand in the house and if your chef was left behind clearly one of the maids would be in charge of setting up breakfast lunch and dinner. There are very few restaurants and to my memory there was only one decent restaurant. None of them served breakfast. It would hardly be relaxing to vacation in a house with no staff. Many of the domestics on the island are there for the summer and then move South to Service at Palm Beach for the winter.
