Funny, as Canada CBP tends to be one of the tougher transits for US citizens.  
I feel as if both countries are playing a bit of the 'who's cock is bigger' game with this.

I fail to understand the issue any longer:
You may ask for a deposit.
The client can refuse.
End stop.  
Badgering the client is not going to change his mind or at the best it places the visit on an adversarial basis.  So continue to ask and continue to get a certain percentage of rejections and stop wondering why or don't ask.  

I often ask for one hr, with option to extend to 2 if chemistry is great, and ask if provider is ok with that set up ....have yet to get a no answer as one hr is confirmed. I'd some 70/30, 70% extend and 30% not. I can usually tell within first 10 min where it is going (especially after the first kiss). This is a good tactic. With some massage clients who book a 2 hour session I offer them the chance to blow their load right at the start. If he’s really excited and is prone to cunning before he wants to then we just call it and I suck him off before he gets in the table. That way he can relax into the massage and really enjoy that without the tension ‘down there’. Then I build him up again over the 2 hours to a second climax. Other red flags (From a client's perspective):  ask for pics; after confirming everything a week ahead, then when reconfirming the day before ask you all the same questions again; don't promise they kiss or cum or something, and yes, short 1 word answer to typical set up questions, after a day of no response.
