I posted back a while ago now that I had nabbed a cheap first class ticket on BA r/t to London that I was planning to use this week. I was soooo looking forward to a few weeks away, seeing family and friends I haven’t seen since late 2019-early 2020, taking quick cheap flights to here and there, reacquainting myself with a few providers, etc.. But alas, due to work and personal reasons, I’m still in NYC 😩 So while my boss and his partner are swanning around Greece and the Med for the next 6 weeks, I’m here holding down the fort. Mind you, I don’t begrudge them at all - he and his partner are really sweet men. Plus, it is pretty sweet having the CEO as an out, gay man. But I’d be lying if I said I didn’t wish it was me on vacation now. I don’t know if it’s the normal Monday meh feeling, or covid fatigue, or reading about new lockdowns, or a combination, or what. But I’m just feeling it all today. Truthfully have been since last week - it’s just gotten more intense day by day. So much so, my usual “pick me ups” - a few drinks, some time with a provider or FWB, haven’t done the trick. Its been 18 months now since I’ve left the state - even during that time I haven’t really gone farther than spending some time out East. Even business travel is still on pause. I was meant to go to Moscow in late November, but that’s be shelved now. I do have a wedding in FL in early November I thought I’d go to, and extend for a few days of fun in Miami/Ft Lauderdale, but who knows what FL will look like by then. I guess I’m wondering if any of you gents have gotten to this point, and how you coped, are coping, got out of it. It just feels like the past nearly 2 years have just been a waste in so many ways, and I’m not seeing any changes to that anytime soon. I think I was pushing myself thru all the ups and downs that come with covid with the thought “just get thru this lad, you’ll be in London in late Aug/early Sept, Florida in late Oct/early Nov, and Moscow in late Nov/early Dec” but now that those carrots are gone, it’s just a stick offering noting. Ah well - I’m sure this too will pass, and I do fully recognise things could be far worse too. Thanks for listening to me vent. BBD

Some posters I miss because we tended to like the same types of gents, so seeing them post about one usually eliminated the need for a 411 post of my own. One poster was another businessman who travelled like me - “something-lucas”, another had the moniker “yankman” I believe. Another was “TheOtherGuy” - I believe he had a meltdown at some point over something posted and *poof* he was gone. JTBrooklyn was another - and now the name that was just in the tip of my tongue is gone for a UK poster who always had the 411 on London gents. Some posters I miss because their posts were just off the wall - I’m thinking here of Avalon and a few others. I’d be tempted to put Steve Kessler in this category just because his posts were thesis length, not because they were off the wall. Some other posters I miss are GeminiBear, TrueReview, RickMunro, JuanVancover, and some others I just can’t recall their monikers now. While I miss their contributions here, fortunately I am still in touch outside the forum with some of them. BBD

Personally, I prefer natural - full bush, unshaven body hair, etc.. However, I am not a fan unkempt facial hair. If you sport a beard, goatee, moustache-keep it trimmed up. I see a number guys who have embraced the “Duck Dynasty” type beards during covid - not a look I like. Having said all the above, a naturally smooth guy is also hot. Just be natural whether that means hairy or smooth. BBD

If he’s just offering them up as reasons to be vaccinated, nothing. But if he claimed they were somehow related to, or a result of some polling he did, then that’s suspect. A broken can still have the correct time twice a day, but I just don’t think he’s credible, period.

I wouldn’t be so quick to cite him as a legitimate pollster. He’s been heavily criticized, and censored by the AAPOR and the NCOPP for refusing to release data to support his claimed results, and for misrepresenting poll results of others to support his results. He’s so thin skinned about any criticism, he stopped funding a scholarship at U of PA after an audio recording of him on campus was used in a critical article about him in a conservative, though not right wing, publication. He’s been dropped as a commentator by most of the news orgs - MSNBC, CNN - even Fox. I’m actually surprised he was TDS - I suppose that’s the only type of booking he can get anymore.

What I find really irksome is that for 15 or so months, all we’ve been told is “we need to follow the science”. We have, and that’s what has allowed us to get to this point. Now, it’s “I want to see the science” to explain the revised CDC guidance. You can’t have it both ways. The science behind this new guidance is that they’ve found the risk of transmitting or catching the virus if one is fully vaccinated has such a low probability, that masks aren’t necessary for those in this cohort. Simple. I think the problem will be that because we are a federal republic, the CDC guidance is just that, guidance. The CDC has no power to enforce or relax restrictions/mandates nationally. State, and local governments can continue to enforce their own mask mandates, and restrictions. But, since they’ve all cited “CDC guidance” ad infinitum to justify their covid restrictions/mandates, chances are people are going to go with the CDC, regardless of what the state or locality has to say. If nothing else, (beyond confusion), comes from this latest guidance, it may result in jump starting our stalled vaccination efforts. Imagine how the anti-vaxers would react if, even with this new guidance, businesses, and venues opted to restrict services/admittance to only the vaccinated? Want to go to a Broadway show, a baseball/football/hockey/ basketball/etc. game, a NASCAR event, a concert, a movie, a live show, etc. - prove you’re vaccinated first. I have no problem with this. Vax up or shut up. For the record, I am beyond delighted to drop the masks! Since the previous guidance on not needing to wear one outside if fully vaccinated, I’ve been pretty much maskless during my daily wanderings - but I do still carry one in case I’m stopping at the shop for anything. I’ll still carry the mask, as I recognise private businesses can still require them. But, unlike others, I hope masks will be consigned to the trash-bin of history, and not become an ubiquitous part of our lives, fashion statement or not.

Purely anecdotal, and pretty subjective based on my own tastes, but many moons ago in my undergrad years, we traveled a good bit for matches, tournaments. Granted, most of my interactions were with other ruggers, but the eye does wander. Other than the ruggers, and based solely on my own experiences playing, and visiting friends, I echo that military academies have some of the most handsome men. Great hair, great smiles, great bodies, and honestly quite friendly. I’d also say, Georgetown, Notre Dame, UMSL, College of Holy Cross, BC, Providence, Ohio State, U of Miami, Colombia all have more than their share of hot men.

So sorry for your pain, @Smurof. I have suffered from sciatica, and I know how vile the pain can be. Unfortunately, at least in my case, there was never any rhyme or reason as to why it would flare up, or go away - or when. Bed rest, (when I could), ice, (a bag of frozen peas was my go-to), walking, and if necessary some good pain meds to knock me out at night was my usual treatment plan. Sometimes it would last a day or two, other times a longer period. Again, no rhyme or reason. I hope your pain lessons, and you recover quickly ?? I would recommend once recovered, you see a specialist that can hopefully help you avoid flair ups in the future.

I’m 50, so growing up who did I see representing gay men on TV? Paul Lynde, Charles Nelson Reilly, Jonathan Harris - hardly what one would ever describe as examples of masculinity. But who were? Tom Wopat, John Schnieder, David Soul, Tom Sellek, Paul Glaser, etc.. As a result I think many in the 50+ cohort maintain these outdated, and just plain wrong perceptions of who cannd who cannot be deemed “masculine”. This is what I think has skewed so many of our perceptions about gay men - gay men can’t be masculine, only a straight man can really be masculine. That kind of ignorance just annoys me.

It’s no more discriminatory than wanting to spend your money at a gay owned business, or a black owned business, or an independent business vs a corporation, or to donating to certain charities vs others. To put it more succinctly, it is not discrimination. I would have to disagree with you on this stereotype. This just plays into the trope that gay men can’t be masculine, and that men acting gay must be overly feminine to be convincing. Just look at the overwhelming majority of films, and TV shows with gay characters. Even in the rare instances when there is a masculine/butch gay character, he’s derided by other gays, and doubted by non-gays until he “flames out”. I’ll take a man -provider or not- confident in his own masculinity, in his attraction to other men over a g4p provider in need of his blue pill, and pussyporn to get it up any day.

In my adventures with this hobby, I view hiring a gay provider as a version of “buying local”. I prefer to support those providers. If I see a gent has listed himself as “straight”, (sometimes “bisexual”), I tend to move on, as in my experience, such identification usually means a far more limited repertoire of activities. I find there are enough variables to weigh, and consider in this hobby already. Throwing sexual identification, (whether genuine or branding), into the mix can make things over complicated. Same with when they indicate “depends on person” or “ask me” in their RM profiles, or have “discounts for fit and good looking” on friendboy. Too complicated. This is why I tend to stick with engaging our gay providers - at the very least, you know the gent is genuinely into/attracted to other gents. Support your gay providers ?️‍?
