they don’t seem to loathe tourists in Bangkok, so yes, that makes it different. Or, at least it’s not formally organized like in BCN.
you might not pick-up on the anti-tourist/anti-foreigner undercurrent on one quick trip,  you will notice with regular visits.  just look for the very specific graffiti and attitude among service workers.
as mentioned, the only thing that makes BCN a bit like BKK is Thermas.  One public venue for paid sex - that’s it.

Moderator warning….a couple of you have gotten into a back/forth that does NOT further the topic. Let’s get back to European city vs. Bangkok as the OP has posted. Let’s get back on topic NOW and avoid personal warnings and locking the thread.
    Thank you!

it depends where & the behavior of the tourist.
In Barcelona - given the sentiments of the locals, probably not a great place for a foreigner to buy.  The influx of part-time residents and over-tourism are inextricably linked to the decline in quality of life in the city.

Btw - discussing politics in Spain is considered rude & looked down upon - even worse when foreigners decide to weigh-in. Of course, it’s a very American thing to think that they somehow understand it well enough to have an opinion. An American flying a Catalan flag is beyond ridiculous. I can assure you all the Catalan & Spanish people are snickering & mocking it, not so privately either.
It used to be a really lovely city, so it’s quite sad what it has become and the inevitable backlash by the local people.  The over-tourism issue isn’t new, but seems to have become exponentially worse now w the Instagram hordes, influencers & digital nomads that have taken over. There’s very little they can do to stop or change what’s happened.
it’s a victim of its own success - unfortunately you can’t put the genie back in the bottle.  This is a well known problem in Europe & several other cities with similar problems.
There are literally dozens of articles and research papers doing deep analysis on Barcelona & over-tourism, with all the attendant problems and declining quality of life. Many of the studies conducted the the city of Barcelona and local universities to combat the problems.

LOL - there’s a big difference between analyzing statistics & actually experiencing both cities in person to see the differences.

Barcelona is a beautiful city w a nice climate & many notable tourist sites - however because of its relatively small city population and tight geography, the millions of tourists & cruise ship passengers make it quite dreadful.  Outside of visiting Spaniards, Americans are the dominant tourists there making up 10% of the total.
So, yes - if your idea of a good time is with hordes or tourists and being surrounded by very loud Americans at every turn, then Barcelona is for you.
Similar to other small European cities like Amsterdam, Venice & Florence - Barcelona has been completely ruined by over-tourism that is all but impossible to unwind.  There are many efforts in progress to restrict tourism in Barcelona and that has morphed  into a distinct vibe in some sections that tourists are not welcome. It’s common to see graffiti throughout the city “Tourists Go Home” and similar.  The reason for the public backlash is a housing shortage due to conversions to tourist apartments and some parts of the city are so inundated with tourists that locals no longer have easy access to everyday goods & services that now cater to tourists.
Btw - vast majority of relocated or visiting providers in Spain are from South America, Central America & Caribbean.  They overwhelmingly prefer Madrid because it’s just easier for them since Spanish is spoken everywhere and it’s the de facto capital of the Spanish speaking world.  In Barcelona - most people can speak Spanish,  but whether or not they will is entirely another question. I’ve watched many situations in BCN where whomever refuses to speak Spanish for whatever reason.  The Catalan independence movement along with a separate Catalan identity & language is alive and well, manifesting in various ways.  Again - something that you need to see and experience in person to see how it really works.
If someone has never been to BCN - it can still be worthwhile; just never in the summer months and never in the Old City.  Much better to stay in Eixample or if you want a more local experience then, Sarria - Sant Gervasi
As for Sitges - it can be nice for a couple of days only, but there are much better options in Spain for a beach vacation.

Barcelona is unique in Spain as it’s well known they have the most virulent anti-foreigner/anti-tourist sentiments for all the reasons previously discussed here. It’s so well documented from dozens of sources that it’s not even a question.
That said - I’m sure the neighbors appreciate the foreigner who has bought a part-time apartment in Barcelona, contributing to their housing shortage  & then wades into the very delicate subject that is Spanish/Catalan politics.

such poor behavior as a guest in their country.  why am I not surprised ?  the height of arrogance and just another bad tourist

My only recommendation for Bangkok spas, albeit going without saying, is to bring modest amounts of local cash currency bills for tips. The array of choice can be dizzying and induce FOMO. I prefer to cut imaginary losses in the pursuit of a balanced vacay. If you lean to masochistic overthinking there’s another chatroom typically touted.

Currently visiting Dallas, and decided to go to Club Dallas last night. I had favorable experiences in Club San Diego the few times I went there, so I thought Club Dallas would be the same—I actually thought that both clubs are of the same franchise because of the names, but it seems they're not since Club SD's amenities and staff are much better (but I could be wrong and they might be a franchise, so someone correctly).
Anyway, I went there on Saturday night (last night), which means in bathhouse lingo that there'd be plenty of guys. I was there from 10PM (Saturday) until 12:30AM (Sunday). For the wet areas, it had the basic amenities: hot tub, dry sauna, steam room, and an outdoor swimming pool. The swimming pool seems to be something unique (Club SD didn't have it), but in Dallas, outdoor swimming pool is a staple of every apartment complex, so I guess it's par for the course. The steam room in Club Dallas is better lit compared to the other bathhouses I've been to, and you can see people's faces and there's not much fogginess (I think this is a disadvantage because steam rooms are supposed to be really foggy so can't see people at all). The dry sauna is much darker than other ones I've been to. The other common areas (eg, cinema, sex swing, etc.) are pretty standard and nothing too exciting, and I still like Club SD's more (heck I even like 24 Kaikan's compared to Club Dallas's).
The staff was subpar. The lines forming were getting long both checking in and checking out, and the people at the counter were taking forever to assist each person. They seemed to have more than enough staff members at the counter last night, but I could tell they didn't want to be there (I guess, I would not want to work there too but at least Club SD it took less than one minute to check in/out a customer).
As for the type of guys there, I was disappointed. I thought on a Saturday night, I would see a good spectrum of guys, but that was not the case. You got guys that look like the stereotypical bathhouse club member, but there was definitely a lack of young guys and muscled guys—these groups are of course always underrepresented in bathhouses, but there should be some representation on a Saturday night for a major city like DFW. I saw none last night. Each time I went to Club San Diego, I've been able to play with guys in their early 20's and muscled guys.
Now, I'm not sure if there was an event going on in DFW last night that prevented guys from going to bathhouses, or maybe going there from 10PM to 12:30AM was not ideal, but the selection of guys were subpar. I did manage to see a doable guy in his 30's with a twink body, but he quickly swatted my advancement. It also seemed that he was a first timer based on how he was acting. He left shortly without hookin up with anyone. I also left Club Dallas without hooking up with anyone there,  but did so because I got a Grindr message from someone hosting 8 minutes away by car.

This sounds more like sour grapes over a provider not wanting to meet with a potential client.

Update: As my previous post says, I was fortunate enough to be getting Grindr hookups, which prevented me from exploring bathhouses mostly. However, I was determined to explore the LGBTQ culture in Tokyo—specifically 24 Kaikan because everyone online has been saying it's the gay batthouse to check out. Disclaimer: I went there on a weeknight, which is not the busiest time of the week, so this post is limited to that experience. To say the least, the entire place didn't have too many people. Probably there were about 12 to 24 guys there during my stay.
So where do I start?—I guess, we start at the 2nd floor where the entrance is (1st floor is parking for the building). Interestingly enough, you'll have to use 2 lockers. The first locker (which will cost you 10 Yen coin) is for you to store your shoes since it's a culture in Japan (and most asian countries) to remove your shoes. After stowing the shoes away, you go to the front desk to pay and be given a bag with a robe and towels along with a key for your actual locker. It cost 3900 Yen for me because I went after 9PM (It's 3300 Yen if before 9PM).
First thing I explored was the 3rd floor, which I will call the wet section (eg, hot tubs, steam room, sauna, shower room, etc.). The 2 dry saunas there have really good heat compared to the US ones I've gone to (specifically Club San Diego since I went there not too long ago). There were about 3 hot tubs—which I did not dip myself into. There was also a steam room—I did not stay too long because it was really hard to see, plus with it being a weeknight, no one was pretty much there. There was also a some kind of dungeon room that had BDSM leather swing/seat that bottom could be on (I'm sure you've seen this type of apparatus in other sex clubs). No one was using it of course because there weren't many people. The only places on this floor that were being used were hot tubs, dry saunas, and the shower/rinsing area that had seats and a vanity mirror (weird, I know).
The 4th floor was the—for a lack of a better term—sleeping areas. Most guys here were wearing the blue robes that were given at check-in. This is something not comparable to the USA bathhouses because it's literally sleeping areas. There were 2 big rooms (common areas) that had about 4 bunk beds and one big low-profile japanese bed (which is basically huge futon that is on the floor) that could fit about a dozen people. These low-profile japanese beds is where the action is happening because it allowed for guys to be near each other. Some of the guys were feigning sleeping, which I think was cue to invite other guys to give them blowjobs or be touched (If I were compare this to the USA version, it's like going to the bathhouse and you see a guy with a mask, face down, ass up in the common area basically inviting other guys). There was also a 3rd big room that only had the big lowprofile beds only (ie, no bunk beds), and in it were japanese porn being played—yes, the genital were blurred/pixelated staying true to the classic Japanese porn.
The 5th and 6th floors were mainly for private rooms. And the 7th floor, which was the rooftop, was closed because it was raining outside that night.
As for the type of guys that were there that night, I'd say about 70% to 80% were Japanese, while the rest were foreigners like blacks, indians, and east Asians that were non-Japanese. And as always, bathhouses are accessible for any guys who could pay to get in, and this one was like that. One thing that I noticed that most guys looked younger than the ones in the USA bathhouses (heck, I didn't even see anyone with grey hair); however, since they're asians, it was hard to gauge their actual age. Only one guy I found attractive because he was fit, but unfortunately, he was also a top per his Grindr profile. I didn't partake to any of the festivities because I wasn't particularly horny (and the guy I found attractive was also a top), but like I said, my main goal was to check out 24 Kaikan which is like an emblem of the LGBTQ culture in Shinjuku—I guess part of me was trying to see the gay culture in Japan.

That is true that they may not be screening for hot clients. But people will usually at least comb their hair before taking a video call or when they send pics it's their best looking pics, so it's hard to judge hygiene based on looks. Odor is the best indicator if poor hygiene, which is not transmitted on a video call or pics.

EDIT: pardon any typo. no grammar check or anything here.

Yes, I'm in Tokyo this week. I specifically got a hotel that's in Shinjuku, which is where they gayborhood is supposed to be. My hotel is also within walking distance from 24 Kaikan. However, since I've been here, I've been getting matches from Grindr that I couldn't say no to and I've been drained daily so far. Hence, The load and/or urge to go to 24 Kaikan has been gone. I'm starting to accept the fate that I may not end up in 24 Kaikan for this trip, but we'll see if this holds true since I still got a few days left.

newdad reacted to FrancisCA in Manila Philippines Male Spas
Since the last thread of this has been archived, I wanted to update on my recent trip. I was there for 3 weeks and the amount of massages I got...one week I had 4 LOL.
I had a few rules: Under $20, wanted to be naked for the massage and needed to be a male masseur. If it happened to be at a gay spa then that was just a perk!
    Urus Makati  My Recommendation!
Close to Makati/Manila which was great for me since I was staying there! What is different about this spa from the others on the list is this is acutally a gay bathouse with play areas, so it is encouraged. I got two massage here. The first one was so-so, but my last one here was a legit professional style massage, I could tell by their technique. There are signs all around for no "extra service" but I was offered about 50% of the time. You even fill out a slip at the end, and it asks if they asked for "Extra Service" just put 'No' so no one gets in trouble. Check their Twitter for deals. I was getting a massage and club entrance for $15. Large crowd, some foreigners, bar inside the spa, theme nights and everything was nice and hot!

Infinity Spa - Bay Area Location
Close to the airport, so if youre staying around there, its a pretty good option. Go on weekdays for deals or check their Twitter. Since it is close to the airport, you will see foreigners. I will say that both at this location and at the South Point location, the massage area is super cold. They blast that AC, and it was hard to relax. Its not labeled as a gay spa but it is men only and people do play in the saunas but are less bold than Urus. Also it didnt matter if you went on the weekend or weekday it was always crowded.
    Real Xtreme Touch
Whats nice about this place is that you can choose your masseur while all the others were by chance. This place has been around since 1994, and it shows and some masseurs were younger than the business LOL It is also open 24 hours which I assume that some of them live there. If you didn't choose your masseur before hand, they all come out police lineup style, which is quite awkward for me. There is also no other perks, JUST massage unless you wanna pay more for the shower massage. They did have at home/hotel service, which could be a nice option since you can control the environment vs. going there. I'm only putting this on the list because its the first thing that pops up when you search "gay massage Manila," so it's worth adding to the list.

    Naut Thai
I went to this massage place which my straight cousin so I wasnt expecting much but I had a really good legit thai massage and you can choose a male masseur. Quite expensive but its a chain and you can find them at a lot of malls.

There are so many more outside of Manila but the traffic is so bad im glad that Urus was walking distance from me I will miss it dearly LOL
