Unfortunately that is difficult to avoid. Big growth companies or even growth divisions within a company value talent and skill. Steady state-they do like talent, but they can run without major changes and so politics, backstabbing, whack jobs take over. The ubiquitous Power point presenter becomes the oracle-vs the guy who can get things done and done right. It depends, for me with kids, I just tune it out and sometimes even laugh. I am not aiming to be in the C-suite. I get insurance for my kids, put a roof over our heads, flexible timing to deal with family emergencies and very little travel. There is going to be some bad -cranky people, nothing interesting at work. Yeah sometimes dabble a little in office politics, mainly to make sure I am not roadkill when someone is trying to throw me under the bus-but otherwise just cruising along. If you are single, you have lot of options. But as they say-this too shall pass. Even if you move to something very interesting, things change. only you can decide what you need and makes you happy or actually learn to be happy. Sometimes though the company itself could be in danger of shutting down or being bought out-in which case, dust up that old resume. Those of us with dependents have other limitations.

Hugs, it will take a while to heal. The wife, yeah-it is what it is. Adoption is very difficult especially if you are single or even gay couples. I think it is a bit easier now for gay couples. But sometimes some of us want a genetic link to children . To each of us our own, as long as they are not asking us for money-to each their own. I get the same about pets too, that if you buy a purebred puppy you are a killer with blood on your hands for not adopting from a shelter. I have been told that-literally.

That is par for the course. The only places I see things different are in very rapidly growing companies that need talent. Steady state companies breeds and rewards mediocracy, passing the buck, pretentious twats who think the sun spins around them.

What I meant to say was law enforcement will use the new sex trafficking laws to target a normal client or anyone and charge them with felonies and extract 10,000 dollars or more. The Patriot act was to catch terrorists and who did it snag-Elliott Spitzer. Was he a terrorist-no he was hiring an escort. Turned out they were and probably are using the patriot act to snag people who hire escorts and part them from their money and fill their greedy pensions and keep their department budgets. Probably because once they catch them, people just pay the fine, plead something-so nothing goes on record. Sex trafficking-the real kind -is horrendous. That is buying or selling humans and in many cases vulnerable young ones from other countries and sometimes they throw their passports away and basically are just slaves who may be forced to have sex multiple times a day. That is truly cruel I was referring the recent law -in another thread-that congress passed which allows them to target sites like backpage. Once states and police get these new powers, they will target anything. With kids and being a single parent, work is just work. I have learnt to adjust my attitude to realize-This too shall pass. I have had good jobs that turned bad, bad jobs that turned good etc etc. I currently have a crappy one as my manager-but I don't care. If I get laid off, I get laid off-nothing to do here. Life is a mystery and so I just go with the flow . As a single parent , I do have restrictions regarding travel and God forbid something would happen to me long term. But soldier on. Do I wish it to be more interesting, soul refreshing yada, yada-yeah-but hey I could be unemployed, no skills, no degree, no hope too-so I think I have it good and this too shall pass!
