For whatever reason, it sounds like he was dissing you big time. A reasonable person wouldn’t act like that unless they expected or wanted to be abruptly dismissed. I’ve noticed the same thing and was also skeptical. However, I realized a while ago that I’ve been guilty of the same offense. After reading previous reviews before offering my own, I apparently was subliminally co-opting some of their language as my own. I now read all reviews with a jaundiced eye. Even when I’ve read reviews from people that I know and trust, I’ve occasionally had a completely different experience. Call it chemistry or YMMV.

Best guess is that it was a little bit of both.
