While I prefer to see a face pic in advance, I can readily understand why an otherwise desirable provider may elect not to post one. Requesting one usually invites the “I’ll show you mine, if you’ll show me yours “, which I’m unwilling to do. I have waived my preference to see a photo when there is a favorable “reliable” review commenting on the face. Even though this is subjective, it’s worked well for me so far.

Three very different states with which I have some familiarity. The different locales in Texas and Florida, in particular, differ widely in vibe, climate and culture. If your work is portable, I’d try a 3 month stint in a place of interest first and see how you like it. I’ve moved a fair amount and am always surprised that things are often not what they seemed to be from afar.

Perhaps my expectations are lower but Response # 2 seems to be the norm for me. My initial message is generic, non-specific. Most providers seem to be very guarded in their initial responses and I have not found that to be consistently predictive of what they’re really like.

In the larger metropolitan areas, there are too many options to have to tolerate this nonsense. Research is your best friend. On the very rare occasions that I have walked, I felt that I was doing a service for the brotherhood and hopefully modifying future behavior on the part of the provider.

Hey, it happens. Unfortunate for all concerned. I wouldn’t give up on the hobby but pick a site with legitimate reviews, like this one or even a well reviewed provider on RM and try again. You also need to develop some patience- something that I didn’t have a lot of at 24. Your poor guy probably isn’t cut out for this business but learned a valuable life lesson. You should get back on the horse and look forward to much better times ahead.

What he said. This thread has focused on HIV transmission risk but there are other reasons to consider routine use of condoms. PreP and doxy offer no protection against a host of other infections - M pox, HPV (agent for anal and oral cancer), syphilis and herpes, to name a few. Your patience and indulgence are commendable. At least he showed up. I, too, have been in your situation but for much smaller stakes. The reality is that when they do finally reach you, the ensuing drama has already sucked the life out of them. My lesson learned is that it’s not worth the wait or expense to me.
