It amazes me that so many people, even today, still find it difficult to believe that gay men and women don't fit their stereotypes.

Why are so many Young Men so shy about Nudity?
JayCeeKy replied to + HornyRetiree's topic in The Lounge
Sometimes the hesitancy to "show the goods" depends on the competition. When I was in college I worked in a chemical factory where everyone was required to shower together at the end of the shift - usually about 30 guys at one time. I'm telling you, some of those guys would make anybody feel inadequate. Being a wimpy little college guy I felt like the appetizer at a bratwurst festival. -
Since https://www.recon.com/en/ is a site for those interested in gay fetish sex, I think you are correct. Never heard of it before now.

Texan Dan Rather used to have some dillies: "Election results were "scary enough to make the Democrats' fingernails sweat." "This race is hotter than a Times Square Rolex." "Don't taunt the alligator until after you've crossed the creek." "You'd have to say this thing is tight as the rusted lug nuts on a '55 Ford."

Not every veteran of the military ended his service to country as uninhibited. I just completed Ron Chernow's book on Grant. Ulysses S. Grant, West Point graduate and General of the Army was so shy that he wouldn't change his clothes or shower in front of his men. And if you're thinking that you don't particularly like showing your junk to other dudes either, remember that they were at war. Officers bathed by stripping and having their men pour water on them. It was the same for everybody -- there is no privacy in a huge camp with thousands of men. Everybody except for Grant, who hid in his tent and bathed alone. In his 60's he boasted that no one had seen him naked since he was a child. Since he was married and fathered five children we presume that his wife was an exception to the no-nudity rule. -
As I used to tell my supervisees in clinical social work: there is no such thing as Bipolar Disorder or Schizophrenia - they are merely groups of behavioral signs (what the clinician observes) and symptoms (what the client reports) that occur with enough frequency together to put them in a discernable class - and, for the sake of treatment and communication among professionals (and for billing!) we give them a label (that is why the DSM is constantly being revised - our knowledge of these disorders is constantly changing). In your particular case, it does appear to me that you have more than sufficient signs/symptoms to justify a Dx of Bipolar Disorder (possibly Bipolar II since it appears that you are able to function without major problems). I suspect you already know this, as you reported, and perhaps you have been on mood stabilizers previously. Many people with Bipolar go off their meds because of the possible side effects (including pancreatic shutdown and metabolic syndrome) - and they usually cause a "flattening of affect" (emotional numbness) that cause some clients to say that the cure is worse than the disease! Similarly, many clients with Bipolar go off their meds because, although they don't like the depression part of the illness, they do like the increased energy, "creativity," and elevated mood of the manic stage. I strongly suspect that you were in a manic (or hypomanic) state for a couple of years and now you find yourself quickly crashing into a depressive stage. I would strongly encourage you to see a board-certified psychiatrist for an evaluation and possible meds along with talk therapy that will help you monitor your moods and devise strategies to deal with the highs and lows of Bipolar. Otherwise, you may end up in the same place as many people with Bipolar Disorder who go off their meds - either in the psych ward or the local jail. Good luck.

In Fourteen Hundred And Ninety-Two Columbus Sailed The Ocean Blue

I know it sounds sorta perverted, but if it weren't for Hitler I wouldn't be here - my dad who was from Illinois was drafted and ended up at the end of the war at Fort Knox; my mom who was from NJ joined the WAC and ended up at Fort Knox, where she met my dad. So, if it weren't for Hitler and the war, neither one would have left their native state and I would never exist. Weird thought. -
Chicago was settled by people who wanted a city like New York but in a really, really cold place.

I lived in both Bulletmore, Murderland (Charm City) and Filthadelphia. I loved Baltimore even though Philly has a lot more going for it gay-wise and culturally. Baltimore folk are much more southern in their manners (it is actually south of the Mason-Dixon line) and much more laid back, in my opinion. I suspect that the cost-of-living is about the same in most mid-Atlantic & northeastern states though NJ and NY are probably heavy tax states. Actually, any place along the I-95 corridor is fine if your main criteria is access to gay activities. Every city has its safe and dangerous areas. When I worked in Philly I lived across the river in south Jersey - the rents were much cheaper and I took the Trailways out of Mt. Laurel (it was $20 round trip) to NYC just about every weekend.

Have You Ever Been To A Taping Of A Television Show?
JayCeeKy replied to + Avalon's topic in The Lounge
Johnny Carson Show. February 23, 1988. Guests were Dionne Warwick, Louie Anderson, and Jennifer Tilly. You had to get to NBC Studios in Burbank at 6:00 a.m. for tickets. Then, line up at 4:30 p.m. outside the studio. Was seated in audience at 5:00 p.m. Taping at 5:30. Fred de Cordova, the Director/Producer, did the audience warmup. He told us that the host for our show was going to be a "young, bright, up-and-coming comedian" (everybody sighed and booed) - and then he said: "His name is Mr. Johnny Carson!" (Hoots and cheers!) While waiting in line they asked us to write down a question we would like to ask President Reagan if we ever met him. Carson used the questions as set-ups for jokes. Of course, my question was a Reagan insult and was not used. The first time we saw Carson was when he came out at beginning of the show; during breaks the lights were lowered and Carson sat at his desk smoking and talking to Ed. There was absolutely no audience interaction with Carson before, during, or after the show. I guess when you host a show for 25 years (at that time) you lose interest. You did get to see his white Corvette, parked outside the studio - a car he drove himself to work every day. I also literally ran into Ed McMahon at the Beverly Hills Center bookstore one day where he was signing a book he had just published. It must not have been promoted b/c I was the only person in the store. He did yell out, at one point: "Hey, Chuck!" - waving to Chuck Woolery who just happened to be walking past the store. -

Thanks! 1 Community Answers http://www.gravatar.com/avatar/b836fb0911be3ae9ee32ca3008bd8efc?rating=PG&size=50&default=http%3A%2F%2Fassets2.desk.com%2Fassets%2Funknown_user_50-8ad5644bbe6b1bd7454f2ea465f782bd.png Alyssa Burner Agent Aug 29, 2017 11:50AM PDT 1 rated : Hey there, Thanks for reaching out! As long as you don't change your SIM, the Burner app will work. It's tied to your main cell so if you change that, it won't be tied to anything anymore until you put the SIM back that's got your main cell.

I'm sorry that you had to experience this incredibly immature person. We all have vulnerabilities that no one has to right to comment on.

If you've tried therapy, was it worth the $$$?
JayCeeKy replied to + FreshFluff's topic in The Lounge
As others have intimated, Gman, you are not the problem. The "problem" is that you have not yet found the right therapist. Also, you may be misunderstanding the purpose of therapy. "Insight" into your problems might be helpful, but I've never found insight to be very therapeutic. A person may know that he is unhappy b/c his mom never gave him much love, but how does that knowledge improve his life? Therapy is actually about one thing: CHANGE. If you're not changing things about yourself (how you think, how you act, how you live your daily life), nothing's gonna happen. And, most people (myself included) don't want to change. Even if our lives are miserable, better the devil we know. But, IMHO, if you really want to get better, you're gonna have to start changing some things. I'm not sure what those changes are -- but that is what you and your therapist need to find out. It's not a cliché - if nothing changes, nothing changes. True story: as a therapist, I worked with a middle-aged man years ago who was horribly depressed - he had been laid off from his job and had no family support. He lost his will to live. He said he had no purpose in life. I was pretty sure he was going to end it all. At the end of one session, I asked him to "do something different this week" - I don't care what it is, just do something different." Lo and behold, he went to the community center where he sat and watched others play ping-pong. Then, someone challenged him to a game. Next thing you know he's going every day to play ping-pong. He started making a few friends. He started to gain weight. And for the first time, I saw him smile. He still had his "down periods" but they were fewer and further apart. Small changes sometimes make a big difference. -
If you've tried therapy, was it worth the $$$?
JayCeeKy replied to + FreshFluff's topic in The Lounge
Psychotropic meds should be prescribed by a Board Certified psychiatrist. However, meds which are Rx for depression, after a patient has been stable on anti-depressants for at least 6-12 months, can generally be Rx by a family doc - it usually saves $$$ for the patient and it frees up time for the psychiatrist to see patients with more complicated Dx. Patients with Bipolar D/O should always be seen by a psychiatrist since Bipolar meds often require blood level checks - and b/c patients with Bipolar are notorious for going off their meds (although these patients don't like the depressive side of their illness, they often look forward to the manic episode which gives them a sense of power, creativity, and increased energy - it's also the time when they often end up in the psych ward or police station. Also, Bipolar meds often produce "emotional flattening or emotional numbness" and often have some nasty side-effects). As far as talk therapy, it would be wise to ask around for recommendations. However, a particular therapist may be excellent for client X but not client Y. Some therapists specialize in certain therapeutic perspectives and interventions (e.g. CBT, DBT, Rogerian, Solution-Focused, etc.) that may be efficacious for Depressive disorders but not for Personality disorders (e.g. you wouldn't go to an Orthopedist for an ear infection). There are various stages of the therapeutic process, so give your therapist time to establish a therapeutic relationship and to implement and monitor various interventions. Unless you find your therapist totally repugnant or off-putting (and doesn't actually take time to "hear" you), give him/her at least several sessions before you jump ship. Remember that the best predictor of a positive therapeutic outcome is the therapeutic relationship - if people like and trust their therapist, they generally get better (over time). However, if you're not making any progress after 8-12 sessions, please discuss this lack of progress with your therapist for either a change in interventions, or perhaps a referral to another therapist. A competent therapist will not take this as a personal rejection and will welcome a patient's desire to "get better." Finally, most talk therapy is paid for by insurance. These insurance companies meticulously read the scientific outcome studies about which therapeutic interventions are most effective. And many outcome studies indicate that time-limited, cognitive-behavioral interventions are the most cost-effective. Therefore, most insurance will authorize 12-16 sessions but require documentation of progress or change in treatment goals after the initial approval. Unless you are willing to pay out-of-pocket, keep in mind that spending years in therapy (and sometimes clients/therapists get stuck in "problem-of-the-day" sessions instead of working on treatment goals) are a thing of the past. -
Happened to me recently in ATL - just as we were face-to-nuts he whips out a papa-stopper and wraps his dong. A total turn-off. Like munching on a candy bar with the wrapper still on.

I'm not sure if Chaturbate is amongst the sites to which you are referring, but it seems like I read that "models" on that site get 5 cents for each credit you donate. So, if 200 credits are $21 on Chaturbate, it's about a 50/50 split between "model" and owner of web site. I suspect (and I certainly don't know for sure) that a 30/70 or 50/50 split is probably close to the norm for these types of enterprises. And, I agree that that Latinos, especially Columbians, seem to be over-represented, at least on Chaturbate - and they are some of the hottest 'Baters on the site.
