So many of the providers don't lead with their face, so to speak, for privacy/safety reasons. So it's hard to judge. Agreed. I'm strictly speaking from the selection of providers. Many more tops than bottoms. Really, I think a strict top could find a bottom for free in this city without a lot of effort! LOL.

There are a lot of providers in Atlanta in quantity. Probably more than ever. And the numbers swell during certain weeks. But what's different than 10 years ago to me are the number of reliable, regular ones who have built a solid reputation. Those numbers have diminished. There is a lot more transience, and I am less prone than I used to be about taking a chance on a newbie or someone with no reviews (though I still do that time to time). If you're looking for a black top with an impressive tool, the city is a goldmine. I'm attracted to black men (among others) and to tops, so Atlanta is a good place in that way for me. I have two regulars currently, and one of them is a black top. The other is Asian/Latino, and I have prospects for a third who is white. In that Atlanta provides some variety and that I like variety, it's also a good fit for me. My problem in regard to the black tops is a good portion of them present themselves poorly in their RM ads (at least to me). They make me feel like they are sketchy. I have no idea if they are trying to give off a certain vibe or "hood" persona for business or if they really are sketchy. But if it's working for some clients, it's having the opposite effect on me. Fortunately, that's not every ad. There are plenty of others who have inviting ads and who feel on the up and up. There are plenty of pickings in that "better ad" basket. If for some reason (just preferential or for other, more troubling reasons) you're not into black men and specifically black tops, your options go down around half. If you are a strict top, the pickings in Atlanta shrink a lot across the spectrum. Not a lot of bottom or bottom versatiles from which to choose. Overall, I'd say the scene is OK-to-good. I've never had a truly bad experience. The worst I've ever had in more than 10 years here is "disappointing." I've hired a variety of guys here -- white or black or Hispanic or Asian or other; ages from mid-20s to 50s; visitors and residents; tops to versatiles; muscular to twink-ish; edgy to BFE -- and I've never had a truly bad experience. I just feel like the churn is so high here and that a good many providers are new, perhaps desperate, won't be sticking around long and just don't know how to market themselves well here.

Hey, a big thank you to providers and others who responded. This makes more sense now. Based on the replies, the biggest culprit in this not working more efficiently is the RM push notification system. More than ever, I'll keep in mind to use this as advanced notice only. If I am truly cranked up for a day-of appointment and it's a provider I've never met, I'll just go to the phone text. Maybe I should get a second phone dedicated just for things like this. ... It's too bad we can't see rates in the US with a VPN workaround and see more explicit details. In many cases on a good ad, that also would circumvent the need to use RM messenger at all.

It sounds like the RM notification feature to providers is the real culprit in all of this based on reading your great response and the others. And I had no idea it was that bad. But like you said in there, I use RM for general introduction and advance situations. If I am really super jazzed up for a day-of appointment, I will go ahead and directly text or call a potential provider I've never met before despite my misgivings about that. Precisely because of the number of times I have not heard back or heard back way too late.

I do sometimes get automated messages with rates when I send that initial RM chat asking for them. And that's very helpful.

I've done it before with no bad results, but I'm somewhat wary about starting things off with a text asking for rates. I'd much rather use RM messenger, and hopefully the provider will look at my profile, my number of reviews and from there figure out I'm a serious prospective client. But there a good number of providers who want all contact to start with texting. I'm getting a better understanding of why now that I'm reading these responses.

Yes, I want to use for initial contact, finding out rates and a little more info if the ad is sparse. After that, I'm fine going to text or calls. I mainly just don't like to make that query about rates over my text.

That good information to have, and I seldom use it as "same day" feature, though that has worked out before. I like it for initial contact and for the sending of non-urgent messaging. Thanks for the insights on how that works for a provider. Sounds like the push notifications are a big issue.

Age isn't a big consideration for me -- minus I generally prefer someone in his mid 20s or older. I have made exceptions for guys say 25 to 21. I will not knowingly hire anyone 20 or younger. But an "ideal" age range to me would be early 30s to late 40s. And I would hire someone older than that and have. But the 30s to 40s turn my crank the most -- and that was true in my own teens and 20s up to today.

I've often wondered about that myself. I was just looking at my reviews from 2023 and thought: "That many does not make me look so good!" LOL.

RentMen offers a chat option under the different ways to contact a provider. Personally, I find it great way to make first contact, where I say hello, what I like about the ad and enquire about rates and basic info. I'm right there in the ad, and I'm not giving out my number right off the bat for initial contact. I usually offer to move to direct texts, if the provider prefers, after two or three back-and-forths. However, most providers state they prefer direct texts right from the start and that they do not use or seldom use the RM chat feature. Why is that? As a client/customer, I find it very convenient for initial contact. What is is about the chat option from the provider end that makes most providers not want to use it? I'm just curious why the provider user experience is so different from the prospective client experience.

I just got quoted $400 in call / $450 out call for an hour. He overshot my hourly budget by $100 (or $50 if I'm really horny and/or super into the guy). I know a great guy who'll do $360 for 90 minutes at my place. I'll just wait on him to get back to town! But if you gots the bucks, I think Thom would be worth a try. Instead, I'm meeting an f buddy for free.

I met him last evening. He's a good communicator, friendly, honest and organically dominant, which I liked. The first meeting wasn't everything I hoped for but there was enough there to want to set up a second meeting and see how that goes.

I'm scheduled to meet him in next 30 minutes or so. I'll be report back on whether the meeting took place and how it. Great initial phone communication.

I agree with you about ads. Providers understandably feel the need to not be too direct. But sometimes it's hard to read between the lines.

From the perspective of a client: If some gives me a discount (let's say $300 instead of his usual $350), he goes to the top of my "call-first" list.
