I could easily fill 2 full days there unless I was with someone ill suited to being there. Otherwise NYC is the perfect place for this. If you'll be some place where weather will impede your time and you're not in a place with lots of indoor stuff, then think about pastimes (e.g., like chess which was mentioned here). hanging out may be easier if you know some nice places for a drink or other ways to relax.

Easy to be dispassionate about him. "Why" questions often get you easy rationalizations or vague responses. Lots of "decisions" are made w/o much deliberation. Many opportunities appear without much context or explanation. The reasons someone enters an occupation, escorting or otherwise often are different than the conditions that keep them in the job. I've always been interested in how people got to where they were in life. I also know that it's usually not a simple question and its often not the most appropriate first thing to ask.

Cartegna reminded me of New Orleans—charming old tow but you want to be cautious after dark. When I flew, a few years ago, the flights arrived and departed late in the day into Bogota. I thought Bogota was just OK—a capital city that sprawls all over the place. I stayed in an upscale area outside of the downtown, which seems to be gradually upgrading after years of decline.
