I think my days of seeing a doctor are over. Since I fell in the parking lot back in April and the rescue squad had to come and get me back in my apartment I've not been outside since then. Because of the arthritis in my knees I can barely walk around my apartment. I had thought of a nursing home and made a few inquiries a month ago but no one got back to me.

I try not to drink too late in the evening. But being a diabetic I get especially thirsty.

NOPE -- You need to find out what services are available where you live --- GOOGLE BITCH GOOGLE -- In Philly we have Philadelphia Corporation for the aging --- Find out what services you are eligible for --- UBER and LYFT offer Wheelchair Accessible Rides at discount prices ---- GET TO AN ORTHO --- A Knee is an Easy Fix!!! Maybe you need a stairchair -- grabbars - etc ---- CALL YOUR DOC and SAY ---- I NEED SOME SUPPORT/HELP

ok, there are many issues going on here. first I don't know where you live but your local Council on Aging should/could help you. Call them. Then call your local government (town, city etc) to see what outreach that they have available. Call your local hospital as them the same question. Do NOT, I repeat DO NOT play the role of a victim. YOU MUST BE PRO ACTIVE IN YOUR OWN HEALTH CARE.

All good suggestions.

One of @Bearofdistinction 's suggestions, GRABBARS, is essential!! Bath, shower, toilet, anywhere you have to get up and down or that might be slippery.

As a physician, way too often. There are many reasons possible, but do not guess, get a medical opinion.

Just as an aside, I placed a urinal in my master bath and night time peeing requires no aim, no muss, no lights. In fact, I do not even have to open my eyes. Consider it if you are redoing your bathroom.

What is your Urinals Name? Mine was an add in so I just chained him into the party shower and since he is and does French I just call him Wee-Wee

I wouldn't come because you're not my type. But if you were my type and I found a PISS JAR next to the bed because you're too lazy to go to the bathroom I wouldn't stay. That's some Hoarders/Silence of the Lambs shit.

Hello Clairesse Could you hear the Lambs Pissing when you approached to --- Make them into Excellent Edibles . . .

Don't Worry Mikey I know for a fact that Rudy does not waste his golden gift in Coffee --- But he makes amazing Golden Delicious Apple Fritters!

The 24 hours of 9 June I had to go to the bathroom to urinate 15x.

Last night was okay. I went to bed at 11:15PM and got up at 7AM. I only went four times. Five if you include when I got up.

I don't remember how long I've had arthritis in my knees. Several years. I had x-rays. My doctor told me not to jump or run. But it was not until February of 2017 that things began to get worse.

But on the other hand some things are better. In May 2017 one evening when I stood up I was lite-headed. I called 911 and the ambulance took me to the emergency room. They didn't tell what was wrong. Several days later I saw my doctor. It was anxiety and he prescribed Clonazepam. I stopped taking it a couple of months ago. Now when I get up out of my chair, stand up, I bend down and reach out to the footstool to get my bearings and then stand erect; I am not lite-headed or dizzy.

What you are describing is Postural Hypo-Tension

That along with the thirst and the frequent urination it sounds like your diabetes is not under control

Some peoples blood pressure and diabetes react with each other --- Time to see the Doctor --- BTW

I do. Last night was especially bad. I went to bed at 11PM.

I got up at

12:30AM

1:15AM

2:10AM

2:45AM

3:50AM

4:50AM

5:55AM

And I finally got up at 7:10AM

Same here. My always-low iron is even lower now (ferritin=5, desirable level is 50), so my sleep is pretty disrupted. Oral iron supplementation hasn't worked so I may have to bite the bullet and try IV.

I'm often tired after sleeping 9+ hours.

5 years ago I was getting up every 30-60 mins and peeing floods. While I do have an enlarged prostate my doc sent me for a sleep study which showed what I already suspected. I had sleep apnea. It took me 3 nights to adjust to sleeping with a CPAP but it's the best thing I ever did. I finally started sleeping at least 6 hours without getting up to pee.

I called the doctor's office this morning. Hopefully they will call me back today.

I fell on 26 April, Thursday morning. That day and the next day and the following Monday I called the County Conservator's Office. She was out. When she finally returned my call she was not friendly nor helpful. She said that as long I can make my own financial and medical decisions they couldn't help me. She suggested I call APS (Adult Protective Services). I did. All they could offer was to have someone come and help me, run errands etc.. But she said that she'd talk to a colleague and get back to me; she never did. The following week I heard a commercial on the radio of a group that helps people in my similar circumstances but it was in another county. I called them on 8 May, five weeks ago. The person thought they might be able to help me but needed my medical records so I called the doctor's office that day. The doctor himself called me back that day. I explained my situation and what was going on. And that's where it stands. Since then I've been ordering groceries on line and my landlord has been picking them up plus bringing me my mail.

Why are you dealing with the Conservator's Office? You don't seem to be somebody in need of conservatorship. You need to start teasing out services for the aging. Every community community has them. In large cities, there's usually a single number you can call that will hook you up with all sorts of services and agencies. A small community like yours is probably more challenging, but the services are there. They may be provided by government agencies, non-profits, churches. There may be food banks, transportation assistance, assistance filling out forms to apply for benefits, meals-on-wheels, etc., all sorts of things.

It is getting more and more difficult for me to get around. I'm needing more help than just someone doing errands and chores.

Last December I got an abrasion on the inside of upper left leg. Between 31 December and the end of February I saw the doctor 12 times. I went back at the end of March. I was supposed to go back in early May but fell in April so I couldn't go. It has not healed. All I've been doing is putting antibiotic cream on it. I have a bath/shower combination. I can not step over the edge of the tub in order to get into the shower. I've been taking "spit baths". I've stopped shaving because I can not stand that long. And so it goes on and on.

I think of my three grandparents and my father; they were all still vigorous at my age. Both my mother and her father died before the age I am now.

At this point, you seem to need assistance with at least some of the basic activities of daily living (ADLs). It seems like you need a caregiver for at least a couple of hours/day or you need to change your housing situation. It may be time for assisted living - possibly even skilled nursing until your leg is healed.

I just looked up assisted living on the internet. I had barely entered the info when the phone rang. It was a person from the site. We had a nice talk. I would need assisted living rather than independent living. There were three in my area but they were outside my price range. There is one @50 miles away I could afford. She is going to send me an email with info.

These things are hard but you’re taking the right steps. About the non-healing wound. Have you seen a wound specialist?

No, I've not seen a wound specialist.

Today I spoke to an estate salesperson. I have several thousand books. If I move I'll call them back.

I wonder if you can get recommendations for a caregiver--maybe at a local senior center? It would probably be less expensive than going through a middleman, and you'll have a better idea of what you're getting.

Even if you go through an agency, the rates may be negotiable.

Thanks! I just called the local senior center but they are closed. I also called that help organization I spoke to back on 8 May but that person had gone home.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The doctor's office finally called me back. It was not the doctor. They said they that they had faxed my medical info to the place I called back on 8 May. I asked the person from the doctor's office if I should go to a nursing home or assisted living. Also I asked about my "open wound". I told her that I've been putting antibiotic cream on it everyday. She put me on hold. When she got back she said to continue doing so. I asked about having a home health nurse come visit me. She said that she'd call me back in the morning. I'm going to stay on top of this!
