This might belong in another forum, but didn't want it to get lost, so here it is.

I'm 54 now and used to have a CRAZY sex drive......recently diagnosed with high blood pressure and since taking pills to control that, I've noticed that I'm hardly horny and even if I force myself to watch a porn, it takes a little bit to get hard...I still do but just seems weird it's not immediate, I also take propecia to help prevent loss of hair and this has resulted in such a decrease in cum, sometimes I wonder if I actually came, lol. Also have read that this side affect will remain even if I stop the medication and that there are lawsuits about this, smh

I'm going to see my Dr. the end of the month and ask him and see if there are other options or pills to change to...I'm even getting swelling in one of my legs and I've read that this could be a side affect of one of the pills.

what I take now for Blood Pressure is = Losartan/HCT 100-25 AND Amlodipine 5mg , the 2nd one is what I think is causing the leg swelling. I used to take Lisinopril before the Losartan, but after a few weeks I started with an annoying dry cough, even after switching off of it, the cough lasted for 3 more months, wtf.

I've started to think it might be better to stop the meds, probably die earlier, but enjoy those last years to the fullest.....

There is a LOT of experience from the members here in life in general, not just whoring, so I know there might be some good advice from some of you.....

Very similar experience. After being put on Losartan 100 I experienced a nose-dive in my libido and response time. I attributed it to the fact that I'm earnestly dieting and I'm (ahem) somewhat older than yourself along with the effects of Losartan. Internet postings I've read state that Losartan actually enhances the sexual experience...I beg to differ.

The more meds you're on, the more the side effects will impede your life.

If you can get off BP meds, that would definitely help the sex drive. Americans tend to just add more pills to the mix to fix whatever's wrong, but if think you can make lifestyle changes to get your BP down, that would be fantastic.

If you think this is truly an age thing, you can also get your T-levels checked to see where you stand.

Dude. You're 54. Not 94. Jeez. Lol

Blood pressure/cholesterol drugs have a notorious effect on the dick. I've heard that Propecia can have similar effects as well but not nearly like the ones for the ticker.

I've been taking cholesterol and high blood pressure for about 8 years. I don't have an issue with an erection or sexual energy on my own or with the help of viagara. What has happened is the amount of cum I produce when I shoot. It has become noticeably less. One of the side effects of the cholesterol medicine was leg cramps but I work out every day do stretching and exercise and eat healthier so that has gone away. What I try to do is not jerk off when I'm meeting an escort for a few days at least...It all feels the same it's just not what it used to be. What I'm not sure if it's part of the aging process but I definitely feel it's a by-product of the medication. It is a fact of life that due to genetics I need the medicines and if my cum doesn't hit the ceiling anymore I'll live with it.

Excellent answers. To add to it,

  1. Get all your hormone levels checked. You could have and under performing gland that’s causing these issues.
  2. Move your cholesterol med to nighttime to avoid muscle pains.

A 77 year old neighbor added a 5 mile daily walk to his lifestyle and totally eliminated BP and cholesterol meds in 6 months. You can get off maintenance meds by changing your behavior.

Nobody knows disease, but my cousin was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. He loved only junk food, drank 2 or 3 32 ounce sodas a day-sometimes more and was very sedentary.

He dropped the junk, soda and actually started an exercise regimen for at least 1 hr a day. He does not have diabetes 2 anymore and stopped the prescription. he says it does not work for everyone.

I've found that certain HBP meds are definitely worse for the libido and the erection. My doc actually prescribed testosterone replacements (back when you saw those ads for androgel and axiron daily) to counteract the HBP meds he was putting me on. Side effect? I lost most of my hair, my hardons weren't that great, and libido never took an upswing. I've been off them for a couple years now, and its status quo so far. I have to say Lisinopril was the least damaging to the reproductive side but most damaging with that dry ticklish cough. Growing old is a b*tch!

Me too. BP meds including Losartan, Amlodipine, and others. Prostate meds including Finasteride (aka Propecia, but in a hirer dose for the prostate), and Flomax that reduces amount of cum, but I still have a load, just less). I have noticed I'm less raring to go these days.

I keep taking the BP meds because a stroke where I'm still alive is not a good alternative to not taking them.

Yes. You increased your DHT levels. That's a well known hair loss factor. However, according to this website it's not just the increased DHT but an imbalance of both your testosterone and estrogen levels that you likely caused.

There isn't any evidence based research on if high cholesterol is bad for you. I'd discontinue all the cholesterol drugs. I've been on Lisinopril for years and no side effects.

You definitely should get your Testosterone levels checked.

FunGuy gives great advice on HRT.

Huh? Just as a related example rebuttal, look at people with familial hypercholesterolemia. https://repositories.tdl.org/utswmed-ir/bitstream/handle/2152.5/2893/19740124_gr_im.pdf?sequence=1)

They develop severe and early cardiovascular disease driven by high levels of circulating bad cholesterol. Why do these people with a genetic defect in the cholesterol processing pathway (and high blood cholesterol levels) develop early and severe disease, if your bolded statement were true?

I’m definitely an advocate of moving towards lifestyle modifications and away from meds with side effects and high costs.

[[i went for a deep dive on statins - definitely some interesting stuff there]]

I have taken Losortan for years with no trouble -- Amlodipine however effected my sex drive and sent me to the ER and a week in the hospital for med reactions

Here's hoping the Propecia isn't reversible totally. I stopped recently and just cut my hair down almost bald. I know it cut my erections and sex drive. I will say after using viagra a lot and drinking protein green smoothies a lot there seems to be better erections and more cum. Maybe my imagination but I see the cum now.

Amlodipine definitely causes swelling of the legs. Lisinopril and really any drug ending with -pril may cause a cough that is annoying,

There are blood pressure medications which are less erection deflating. These may be a bit more expensive.

As far as statins go. High cholesterol is a risk factor for heart disease but it is not a disease unto itself. A much higher percentage of those with high LDL cholesterol have heart disease but just as all smokers do not get lung cancer, all people with high cholesterol do not develop heart disease.

Current recommendations indicate that if you have had a heart attack or if you have angina or other know atherosclerotic vessel conditions, that statins may slow down the process. There is little evidence that most statins reverse the situation, just slow it down.

Controlling the risk factors you can control is of prime importance in the prevention of heart disease, so controlling BP is essential, The number of medications needed for controlling hypertension in cases of essential hypertension can be reduced dramatically with weight loss toward ideal body weight, exercise with resultant increase in cardiovascular endurance and decrease of stimulants such as nicotine and caffeine. Smoking cessation will help reduce blood pressure and in and of itself may help improve erections.

If you can arrange it, having good genetics is the best thing you can do to prevent hypertension.

That and not being in perpetual outrage mode with everything setting you off and you exploding or keeping it bottled up in rage. But I am no doctor!

I’ve been on low dose lisinopril and have never had the cough or other symptoms. I eat well and work out daily and add 30+ mile bike rides several times a week. I actually suggested to my doctor that I go on it since my BP was all over the place, but never alarmingly high. It also protects the kidneys. Since my restin pulse hovers between 44 and 56, I sometimes wonder if the slightly higher BP balances that out.

There's even a name for it: post-finasteride syndrome. There are online support groups for it.
