I think it is ugly! I don't like modern architecture.

Classical is eternal; look at Washington DC. Then look at Brasilia; it's already dated!

The very best of any style seems to last. People will still be awestruck by the best deco 100 years from now. Bauhaus architecture from the 20s-30s still looks fresh. Buildings from Fascist Italy look like they were built yesterday. Some of the best mid-century architecture still looks relevant. Wright's masterpieces are eternal.

Not a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright

Imo the Guggenheim is ugly!

Not a fan of I.M. Pei either. The Louvre Pyramid is just so out of place!

Do you like the Chrysler building for example?

What about the empire state?

Do you think St. Louis arch is also ugly?

You should try www.skyscrapercity.com

after the listing was removed later (not sold?), it's now for sale again, apparently, and price has been reduced to $188M

I think it is ugly, too. If I have $ 188M, I'm sure I can build a much better house with a more likable design.

I love old style architecture but it's so hard to reproduce that most of the times we end up with examples of Feoclásico Panameño... plenty of examples in Mclean Virginia.

There are other examples when a "revival" of certain style works great. This building is Art Deco revival.

To imitate... we have to do it right or it's 90% likely to look nuveau rich like the examples above. So many fugly houses in Northern VA...

The architects could imitate Federal, colonial or Georgian like so many did in the 30's as long as they follow proporti0ns, it's not impossible to do.

Yale University successfully reproduced a gothic/Tudor village all over the grounds in the 30's.

Wright's masterpieces are eternal.

Not quite. I love his “organic” architecture. I wanted to be an architect. As a kid 60 years ago I would treck down to the library each month to check out what he was up to in the latest issue of Architectural Digest.

About 15 years ago on my way to work in upper Westchester County New York I discovered a road named Usonia Drive where most if not all the homes were designed by Wright acolytes. Remember that landscape, shrubbery and trees were/are an important component of Wright’s organic architecture. The problem with this is clearly evident on Usonia Drive. Trees and shrubs grow: houses don’t. Over time the proportions have changed and seldom esthetically.

Moreover, Wright’s true masterpiece, Falling Water, is doing just that alas.

The aesthetic is eternal. The buildings, obviously, are not. Around here, the Marin County Civic Center was designed by Wright. From a distance it looks wonderful, like something you would see on one of those idyllic planets the Enterprise visited on Star Trek. But up close, it looks seedy and rundown.

@Rudynate This is also modern yet not overdone...

Rio de Janeiro museum by Niemeyer. @Avalon I know it's not your style and you'd rather a Victorian, Georgian, neoclassic, etc. but do you think this is ugly?

Yes I think it's ugly. The top picture looks like a giant unbaked pie!

attention Angeleno realtors!!......wondering if anybody can tell the story behind this place......assessed value skyrocketed in the last year, yet the property looks worse than ever, including one apparently torn down structure and another tired 50s-era place needing roof repairs and featuring an empty pool....it sold a year ago for one-third its current asking price.....I realize the value is only in the land (three acres) and view, but wondering if there's some story.......despite the potential, still a pretty optimistic asking price, it seems

is it only because two parcels were combined into one property??
