YMCA located in downtown Houston (awesome workout facility in mid 80s), had a board with business cards pinned on it. I was like 18 or 19 when I had my first massage from one of the trainers there. There was also a magazine call TWIT that had advertisements. Gee, I'm feeling OLD!

Oh my — TWIT — This Week In Texas. A rush of memories.

Classifieds in the BAR and to a lesser extent the SF Bay Times.

Tony Bullet. Sexy short muscle stud with a thick 'stache. Local to me in the east bay. 90-minute therapeutic (very) erotic massage on his home-made table for $40.

OMG I used to hire him too! I'd drive to his place for a great massage - usually ended with him inside me.

This thread reminds me of what I guess were the old days. It must have been common practice for many members here. I traveled often for business in the late 80's and 90's. After checking in to my hotel I would take a walk to the gay neighborhood if there was one and find the local gay paper. It had ads for bars and they helped one figure out which was a neighborhood bar, leather, dance, etc. It also let one know what special events were taking place on certain nights of the week. Importantly, the back section contained personal ads followed by "massage ads."

I suspect there are very few local rags that have survived. Kudos to South Florida's Hot Spots for surviving.

Postings in the message boards at supermarkets and the YMCA. Also, Philadelphia Gay News (PGN) and even the Philadelphia Magazine. I think the newspaper also had “health” classifieds and you looked for “special language” lol

I hardly ever found a good escort through PGN, except for the ads for Premier.
