Oh, come on, give them time. They are working for free.

Do you really expect all the functionality of a site that makes a significant revenue per year? How much does rentmen make per year? A million? More?

I thought I was making a cautiously optimistic statement about the direction the site appears to be moving in, trying to give credit for the work in progress while being candid about its limited usefulness to me now. ;)

Except he has been very open about it.

He is a client, which gives him the right to be here and participate.

He has disclosed that he also happens to work for rentboy.pro. I think it is better that he has disclosed that, rather than remain here as just a client and participating without disclosing his affiliation.

I think is benenifical that they are here. All businesses are a about making money. One can't assume that rentboy.pro will have the negative characteristics of the old rentboy. It is not logical that will happen. Rentmen is solid competition. Competition drives the market. In order for them to maintain long term success, they will have to be competitive and their service will have to deliver to escorts and clients alike. With other competitors as well, I am sure they realize the need not to make the mistakes of the old rentboy. I am sure Rentmen is paying close attention as well. I am sure they will adapt to remain competitive. If rentboy. pro is smart, the will keep cost low or free for escorts to ensure variety and find ways to make money from the clients and from some sort of advertising. It will be a fine balance. They could have an incentive program for clients to sponcer regulars. My regulars are always giving me extra benefits. I am always happy to sponsor them. I use bit coin or give them cash. I think Rentboy.pro has a great potential to be compititive with Rentmen because this is a wide open market. If I and @Tarte Gogo where 10 years older, I would convince him to do a start up. As in any business, when you fully understand the needs of the consumers and you can provide a product in an effective way, there is plenty of money to be made in a way that positively benefits all those involved. :)

Why? Because they do not charge, right?

i could care less if they charge pros or not. i actually used the site a couple times before this thread and another one where their spokesperson has in my opinion been disingenuous.

so you feel i am an asshole because i am questioning their motivation? that’s the trump way of dealing with a problem. call somebody names because you don’t like what they are saying.

RentMen has been the best thing to happen to this industry in the past 10 years, anyone is a fool to think otherwise. #FACT

I think you might want to research the difference between a #fact and an opinion.

Each ad was only applicable to ONE CITY, and when you went to change it, there was often a fee difference involved.

Contrarily, on rentmen, you have to have the same exact text in each city you visit. Rates different in Atlanta? Tough luck. No sling while visiting SoBe? Too bad your ad says you have one. Can't actually do incalls while in Peoria? Not according to your ad.

Furthermore, I can personally vouch for one of the people that works over at Rentmen- he used to answer my phones and emails.

Rentboy had a fully staffed office in Union Square. You know, the one that got raided.

They increased their costs to the advertiser 3x over the period during which I was advertising with them. A city like Providence RI went from 19.95 to 29.95 to 39.95 to 49.95.

As opposed to rentmen, who now charges $540 a month, on top of your base ad price, to be on the first page in Manhattan, far more then rentboy ever charged. And oh, they also hiked their rates the day after rentboy got raided. Talk about gouging.

Anyway.

  1. I've not heard anyone express a fondness for a monopolized, single-provider niche for listing services
  2. M4RN, Hourboy, BackPage and others are slowly evaporating or being hobbled, solidifying that single-provider position in the listing service marketplace
  3. Presumably both clients and providers benefit from a competing listing service, if for no other reason than to encourage RM to be responsive & affordable

  4. Therefore, it would seem to be in the best interests of everyone who cared to see any competitor thrive, even if it is flawed.
  5. Any critically-flawed business model will inevitably fail but if the demand for a service persists then another will appear in the marketplace - if you don't like it then simply wait with benign disregard for this to occur.

  6. It seems to me that the most constructive step forward for everyone who cares is to give constructive feedback, make suggestions, sacrifice a goat, or whatever, for any RM competitor.

It's nothing personal; it's just business.

Is that $540 for "Platinum Boost"?????? I always wondered how much it cost. Does the price for that vary from city to city or is it a flat rate for everyone per day, week, month, etc????

WHAT?!?! $540 A MONTH?!?!?! That's about half my rent.

Hugs,

Greg

Tristan, I worked for Rentboy.com, but I didn't rule the company. I will tell you a "secret". Some former Rentboy.com colleagues hate me because we differ in our opinions about everything. They also hate my child Rentboy.pro because they think like "Why me? Why not them?". Well, because my guys and I finally did it while our "friends" were lazy and scared...

The people who made decisions about how much to charge you during Rentboy.com times are no longer on board. Rentboy.com made a few mistakes, just like every other company. However it has never been just business for business, it also was for the good and for the community.

Maybe it could have been better for us to choose a different word for a new brand. We meet people who are afraid of "Rentboy" word too often (just read the beginning of this thread). Sometimes we meet people like you who dont like Rentboy.pro because of some Rentboy.com's mistakes...

But we love Rentboy.com times. We will try to end up "post-rentboy era" when everyone in the industry started to hide everything. We will fix Rentboy.com's mistakes. Of course, we make our own mistakes from time to time, we are just humans, but we always try to admit and fix our mistakes ASAP. We are open for constructive crits.

I know, you don't like us, Tristan, but we invite you to join Rentboy.pro for free and we are ready to give you a gold status on the site.

Love for everyone!

SecretShopper, if you want to make sure someone you are addressing reads your message you should quote him as I just did with you, or you should call him by writing @ and then his name, like in @tristanbaldwin . Now we are sure he will read your message.

I'm not the most trusting person out there, so perhaps I'm alone in this, but I am only feeling more uneasy now.

"Love for everyone" -- except your former colleagues. People don't usually "hate" each other just because their opinions "differ" -- let alone publicly criticizing their colleagues on the internet years after they are no longer working together. This is not the kind of thing that kicks a new business off to a good start. I have no idea what the whole story is, but this "secret" doesn't give me confidence.

No doubt this is intended to be a nice gesture -- and I can't think of anyone more deserving of it -- but, nonetheless, this seems sort of emblematic of the problems with this review/verification system, where providers are handled opaquely (and, inevitably, inconsistently), at the discretion of the site operators.
