In most of my recent life, withdrawing a lot of cash from an ATM means I am going to get sex pretty soon.

I feel like Pavlov’s dog effect is operating on me: I now feel exited when withdrawing cash at the ATM, even though I am not intending to use that cash to pay an escort.

Anyone else feels this?

No, only you my super slutty married friend

Ummmm, yeah a little bit. Especially when my local B of A ATM started dispensing $50/bills as an option!!!

Chase now has ATMs that give you a choice of 20s or 100s and maybe some other denominations. I still always get 20s and that's what I pay escorts with. I assume it's a lot more convenient for them to not have to try and pay for things with 100s. I know whenever I end up with 100s I usually deposit them into my account so I can withdraw 20s later. (Or get change from a teller). I should probably ask my regulars if they have any interest in 100s.

There's a great scene in Mysterious Skin where the protagonist opens a drawer overstuffed with 20s. I vote for 100s, they're much easier to store.

Have people tried paying for an overnight with 20s?

To answer the original question, hiring and ATM withdrawals are both infrequent enough that there is not yet any Pavlovian response generated. My more recent hires have involved the foreign exchange counter at the airport more often than an ATM.

I really wish Chase would offer 50s as an option -- either with, or in place of, 100s.

It's worth asking. Everyone I have asked prefers 100s because they are so much easier to deposit into an ATM. However, I often can't accommodate the preference. I have no access to an ATM that dispenses them so that means a visit to the teller. Something I'm willing to do if I plan to head and it's $500 or more, but often not possible.

I usually pay in 100's much easier to carry around. I do not have an atm card. I suppose I should get one. I keep an extra 10 hundreds in my draw in case of emergency horneyness.

Same here...and yes my guys like the “Ben Franklins” ;)

I raised this question awhile back, but folks mostly went on tangents about Presbyterians versus Anglicans and how to best arrange bills in a wallet. https://www.companyofmen.org/threads/what-denomination-do-you-prefer.116261/ Since then, I’ve asked a number of people one-on-one, and they have uniformly expressed no preference between 20’s and 100’s (though admittedly, this is a small sample of the population). Anyway, I generally now pay with a mixture of denominations to cover all my bases :)

I prefer to pay in pennies.

My local Chase offers 20s, 50s... not sure about 100s.

In the early days of ATMs, one bank near me had an ATM (I think IBM brand) that gave out exact change... even coins. This was before personal computers, so you'd have to call your bank's customer service line when you wanted to reconcile your account. I used to love it when the rep asked me "Did you take $41.68 out of an ATM?" I'd say yes, they'd ask "HOW?"

I always relied on ATMs for travel funds as they give amongst the best exchange rates. In the US they always seemed to be limited to 20s. These days I use cards for most things but that's not usually an option for hiring. That's why I started changing money at the airport (here they offer a reasonably good rate for large transactions and a better one if you order on line for collection there). I'm glad more US banks offer more options from their ATMs now.

Couldn’t you reconcile your account with a paper statement from the bank? Why call?

I meant if I needed to do it mid-month. I was in college at that point, and literally needed to take out every penny I could at times.
