For ten days, the London Zoo kept its newly arrived male Sumatran tiger Asim in a separate enclosure from Melati, the female tiger who was supposed to become his mate.

Zoologists gave them time to get used to each other’s presence and smells, and waited for what they felt would be the right time to let them get together. On Friday, they put the two tigers into the same enclosure — and Asim killed Melati as shocked handlers tried in vain to intervene.

It was a tragic end to hopes that the two would eventually breed as part of a Europe-wide tiger conservation program for the endangered Sumatran subspecies.

“Everyone here at ZSL London Zoo is devastated by the loss of Melati and we are heartbroken by this turn of events,” the zoo said in a statement.

It said the focus now is “caring for Asim as we get through this difficult event.”

The zoo said its experts had been carefully monitoring the tigers’ reactions to each other since Asim arrived ten days ago and had seen “positive signs” that indicated the two should be put together.

“Their introduction began as predicted, but quickly escalated into a more aggressive interaction,” the zoo said.

Contingency plans called for handlers to use loud noises, flares and alarms to try to distract the tigers, but that didn’t work. They did manage to put Asim, 7, back in a separate paddock, but by that time Melati, 10, was already dead.

Asim’s arrival at the zoo last week had been trumpeted in a press release showing him on the prowl and describing him as a “strapping Sumatran tiger.”

The organization Tigers in Crisis says there are only estimated to be about 500 to 600 Sumatran tigers in the wild.

Give your ex a dozen roaches this Valentines Day!

The El Paso Zoo in El Paso, Texas, will name a cockroach after your ex and then feed it to meerkat live on camera at its “Quit Bugging me Event” on Feb. 14, the zoo announced this week.

“What’s the perfect Valentine’s Day gift? Naming a cockroach after your ex, of course! Message us your ex’s name and we’ll name a cockroach after them! We’ll post names (First and last name initial!) starting February 11 here on Facebook! Watch on Facebook Live or on our website’s Meerkat webcam on Valentine’s Day at 2:15 pm to see them devour these little bugs!” the zoo wrote on its Facebook page on Monday.

El Paso Zoo event coordinator, Sarah Borrego, told CBS News she hopes the event will get the local community involved.

“The meerkats love to get cockroaches as a snack and what better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than by feeding them a cockroach named after your ex!” Borrego joked.

Authorities say a woman set fire to her boyfriend’s home several hours after they had a consensual sexual encounter there with another woman.

Police in Woodbury, New Jersey, say Tasia Young told them she had been “going through a lot” and was angry her boyfriend had her take a cab home after the encounter while the other woman remained at the home.

No injuries were reported in Sunday night’s fire but Young’s boyfriend and six other people who live in nearby apartments were displaced.

Authorities say the 33-year-old Woodbury woman came to police headquarters Tuesday and confessed to setting the fire. She is charged with arson, aggravated assault, criminal mischief and endangerment.

A Louisiana woman allegedly flew into a rage after learning her wife had accidentally tossed their marijuana in the washing machine — prompting her to attack her spouse with a bedpost.

Ashley Perkins, 30, of Youngsville, was visiting family with her wife in Navarre, Florida, last week when the wild beatdown occurred, The Smoking Gun reported, citing a police report.

Perkins admitted to cops that she and her wife had “tussled” over marijuana around 7:45 p.m. May 20 — but denied using the detached bedpost to whack her, the report said.

The victim, 48, told investigators with the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office that her wife beat her after learning she’d “accidentally placed” the weed “in the washer,” according to the report.

The spouse, who was hospitalized, suffered cuts to her left arm and contusions to the back of her head and legs, according to the report, which noted that responding medics said the victim’s left arm may have also been fractured in the alleged assault.

A bedpost was found on the bed where the couple was fighting. Perkins told cops that she believed her wife rolled over the bedpost, causing her injuries.

But cops said she “changed her story” while being transported to the local jail — claiming the victim picked up the bedpost and beat herself with it.

Perkins ultimately was charged with aggravated battery.

Miss Hooters Tennessee finalist arrested for smashing up her boyfriend’s house hours after he broke up with her

A finalist in the Miss Hooters Tennessee pageant has been arrested for allegedly vandalizing her boyfriend’s apartment just hours after he pulled the plug on their relationship.

Madison Rogers, 21, was booked into the Nashville jail earlier this month on charges of aggravated burglary and vandalism.

According to police, Rogers, who placed in the top 5 of the local beauty contest organized by Hooters, was caught on security video smashing up her ex-boyfriend’s home on May 31.

Rogers has been accused of trashing her boyfriend’s Nashville home two hours after their breakup on May 31

On that day, police were called to the residence for a report of a home invasion, as Scoop Nashville reported.

The victim, who has not been named, told investigators that he had split up with Rogers earlier that day after two years of dating.

When he returned home later that the day, Rogers showed up at his house, kicked in the door and began assaulting him, according to police.

The man told officers he restrained the 21-year-old blonde to stop her from hitting him, carried her outside and called 911.

While waiting for police to arrive, Rogers reportedly yelled at her ex-boyfriend if he ‘liked he upstairs,’ referring to the second floor at his home.

By the time police arrived on the scene, Rogers had run away.

The victim then went upstairs and found his bedroom, bathroom and closet in shambles.

Rogers was reportedly caught on security video entering her ex’s home through the back door while he was away after their split

When he reviewed security video from inside his home, it allegedly showed Rogers entering through the back door while he was away.

Rogers was arrested on June 7 on outstanding warrants charging her with vandalism and burglary. She has since been released on $5,000 bond.

Hooters, the sports bar and grill restaurant chain known for hot wings served by scantily clad waitresses pandering to the disgusting fantasies and urges of heterosexual men, every year hosts an international pageant that features 80 so-called ‘Hooters Girls’ from around the world, selected from a pool of more than 18,000 waitresses 36,000 boobies.

The 23rd Annual Miss Hooters International was held on Sunday in Nevada, where Florida Hooters Girl Briana Smith won the top prize talent competition by reciting the alphabet.

A married United Arab Emirates woman reportedly is seeking a divorce — claiming her life is “hell” because she feels suffocated by her husband’s “extreme love,” according to reports.

The unnamed woman told a Shariah court in Fujairah that she wants to divorce her spouse after one year of marriage due to his overwhelming adoration for her, the Khaleej Times reported on Friday.

“I was choked by extreme love and affection,” she griped to he court. “He even helped me clean the house.”

She claimed that his kindness turned her life to “hell” and made her long for marital conflict.

“I long for one day of dispute, but this seems impossible with my romantic husband who always forgave me and showered me with gifts,” she reportedly said. “I need a real discussion, even an argument, not this hassle-free life of obedience.”

The case, however, was reportedly adjourned so the couple could attempt to reconcile after her husband pleaded with the judge.

“It’s not fair to judge a marriage from the first year, and everybody learns from their mistakes,” her husband reportedly said.

The wife of NFL star Earl Thomas allegedly pointed a gun at his head and eventually chased him with a knife after catching him in bed with another woman.

The wild chain of events took place on April 13 when Earl left their Austin, Texas home after an argument over his drinking. Earl’s wife, Nina Thomas, then hacked into his Snapchat in order to locate him.

Nina found a video of Earl, a defensive back for the Baltimore Ravens, with another woman, then used the social media account to track down his whereabouts.

She went to the location with two other women, grabbing Earl’s handgun before leaving, and walked in on her husband and his brother, Seth, “in bed with other women,” court documents allege. What, no video?!?!?

Nina took out the gun and pointed it to Earl’s head from less than a foot away, but he was able to wrestle it away.

Earl’s wife said she just intended to “scare him” with the gun — even taking out the magazine — but it was later determined that a round was still inside the chamber.

It wasn’t until 3:41 a.m. the next morning that cops got involved when they received a call about a disturbance at the couple’s home. When they arrived, they found Nina wielding a knife and chasing Earl, who had a pistol, around a car.

The two dropped to the ground when ordered by cops to do so. Nina was eventually arrested and charged with burglary of a residence with intent to commit aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Earl was not arrested.

An order of protection was also issued against Nina, forcing her to stay away from Earl.

But, Earl, in an Instagram post addressing the TMZ report, said the two are “back talking” and that he’s seeing his kids.

“Stuff like this happens,” Earl said in the post. Not to anyone I know! “You know, we try to live the best lives we possibly can, but sometimes it don’t go as planned.” A bit of an understatement...

A former professional boxer is a prime suspect in the bludgeoning murder of her husband, whose body was found inside their apartment in Switzerland.

Brazil-born bruiser Viviane Obenauf, 34, is suspected of clobbering her hubby “with a blunt object” inside the home they shared, the UK’s Daily Star reported.

She was arrested last week after the victim, identified only as 61-year-old “Thomas,” was found dead of “massive injuries” sustained during a “violent assault,” Swiss police said.

Obenauf — who fought in three world title bouts during her career — held a 14-6 record and two World Boxing Federation international titles before she retired last year.

She got married on Jan. 25 and opened up a gym in the Swiss town of Interlaken, where she lived with her husband, the owner of a restaurant there, according to local newspaper Blick.

Police were spotted searching the gym, as well as the couple’s apartment, located above Thomas’ eatery “Des Alpes.”

The former featherweight has been arrested at least once before — for allegedly punching a man who tried to grope her as she celebrated her 30th birthday in London in 2016, the local report said.

She spent several hours in jail on the night of that incident.

A man who said he’d previously dated the fighter told Blick he wasn’t surprised his ex was back behind bars.

“She always had two faces. It’s like flicking a switch,” he said.

A 19-year-old British apprentice fatally bludgeoned a 15-year-old schoolboy with a wrench after paying nearly $2,700 to stop him from reporting their “intimate” relationship to cops, prosecutors allege.

Matthew Mason, an apprentice mechanic, allegedly lured Alex Rodda to a remote wooded area under the guise of meeting up for sex last December and then struck him at least 15 times with a long wrench, the Manchester Evening News reported.

Rodda’s partially clothed body was found near the village of Ashley in Cheshire, England, on Dec. 13.

Prosecutors said the boy had been involved in an ongoing intimate relationship with Mason, then 18, at the time of his death, the newspaper reported.

Prosecutor Ian Unsworth told a judge Monday that Mason led Rodda to the woods “on the pretense of sexual activity” before murdering the boy in “cold blood,” BBC News reported.

Weeks earlier, Rodda had reached out to Mason’s girlfriend and told her he had received “flirty” messages from her boyfriend, including an explicit video and photo, Unsworth said.

Mason, who denies killing Rodda, also shot down allegations that he sent the boy explicit material, but the aspiring mechanic allegedly started making deposits in Rodda’s bank account, ultimately paying him $2,696, according to prosecutors.

Rodda also told a friend Mason had been paying him for sex and threatened to go to cops if he stopped, which the teen’s pal said was wrong and amounted to “blackmail,” Unsworth said.

Mason later allegedly complained in messages recovered by investigators that the payments were “cleaning him out,” the Chester Chronicle reported.

Unsworth said the pair had sex on at least five occasions after connecting on Instagram, the Manchester Evening News reported.

At one point, Rodda’s mother allegedly returned home and found her son “flustered” with Mason inside, according to the newspaper.

“You may well think that Matthew Mason didn’t want Alex to tell anyone about their relationship,” Unsworth said in court Tuesday. “He manifestly made sure that Alex never could.”

Mason’s trial, which adjourned for the day Tuesday, is expected to last several weeks.

A Mexican woman flew into a rage and stabbed her husband when she found what she thought were snaps of him on his phone having sex with another woman — who happened to be her when they were dating years ago.

Police responded last week to reports of a domestic dispute at the couple’s home in Cajeme, Sonora, where they discovered the man with multiple stab wounds on his arms and legs, the Daily Mail reported.

His wife, identified as Leonora A, reportedly went ballistic when she found the explicit photos on his phone showing him having sex with who she thought was another woman.

Without asking him about the photos, Leonora allegedly began attacking her shocked hubby, identified as Juan N., who finally managed to wrestle the knife from her hands and asked her what set her off, the outlet reported.

Juan then told Leonora that the woman she thought he had been cheating with was actually her — when they were just dating.

His wife apparently did not recognize herself because she was younger, thinner and had makeup on, according to the report.

Juan, who is expected to recover from the injures, told investigators that he told his jealous wife that he had recently found the photos in an old email and transferred them to his phone.

Leonora was arrested and remains behind bars pending charges, the Daily Mail reported.

A man with an apparent 48-year grudge has been going each morning to urinate on the grave of his ex, much to the horror of her furious kids, who realized something was wrong when they discovered bags of poop left at their mom’s final resting place.

She died of cancer in 2017 and is buried just over the state line in the cemetery at Tappan Reformed Church in Orangetown, NY.

They first noticed a plastic bag of poop at their mother’s grave in April and thought it was something left by mistake by a dog walker.

But then it happened again.

The siblings called the cops, who took a report. Determined to figure out what was going on, the pair got permission from a cemetery manager to place trail cameras in the trees to see if they could catch the vandal.

When they checked the camera footage, they spotted the gross grave visitor: a man who was briefly married to their mom in the 1970s.

The footage was too blurry and grainy to take to authorities, so a week ago, Murphy and his sister got up at 5 a.m. to drive to the cemetery and laid in wait. The son set up his smartphone on a nearby headstone to take better photos and hid behind a small shed.

He said the video and pictures he and his sister got indicated that the man drove to the cemetery almost every morning between 6:14 a.m. and 6:18 a.m. with his current wife, got out of the car, walked to her grave and peed on it.

“I can’t get my wife to go out to dinner but this guy gets his wife to go along with him to desecrate my mom’s remains every morning!” he fumed.

That last line is my favorite part of the story.
