Juan nearly fifty years ago I was fortunate to attend an N.D.E.A. (National Defense Education Act) week long seminar on ways to improve the teaching of Spanish in secondary schools. In attendance was a charming, very bright cloistered nun from a girl’s high school somewhere in the Midwest. Her mother superior had allowed her to leave the cloister to attend because they both believed the seminar would greatly improve her teaching. One evening after classes we were all sitting around expounding on various topics. After I made some point the nun looked at me and smiling stated that at times I sounded so broad minded that my brains appeared to be falling out. After a moment of dead silence we all, including me, burst out laughing – she had nailed me. Sometimes when I read a post of yours this incident comes to mind – I wonder why?

I am sure your story is very funny and very àpropos. Sadly English is failing me and I cannot fully understand what you mean., I think.

Broad minded? What do you mean by that? I am guessing it's some kind of witty rebuttal but after a few reads I am not entirely sure what you mean.

I am guessing it's like that picture that appeared a while ago with a drag queen sitting in the subway beside a woman wearing a Niqūab saying: "This is the future the liberals want", as if we should all be disgusted by two different people coexisting, doing whatever the fuck they want to do. Of course, most "liberals" fully embraced the picture and confirmed that yes, a future like that would be a dream.

Would you care to elucidate me? (It hurts me to ask you to explain the joke...)

I always hire for weekends. I have to check my phone, he has to check his. Understood.

It's, of course, always been during a break from activities.

If I were in an hour or two session and the phone had to be checked I'd be unhappy.

Short sessions: phone is off

Long sessions: escort has every right to excuse themselves and check their phones They get to take a break just like any other job.

And what about people who use their phones in a movie theater during the movie?!!

There was a guy in Texas who got shot when he confronted a person who was doing this.

Once my friend politely asked someone to stop talking on their phone. When the person ignored him he yelled "I'm going to throw that fucking phone against the wall!". The guy stopped but I think my friend was risking a bad confrontation.

We are living in an era where graciousness and consideration are waning. So sad.

Randy, you are correct, I don't know you. I only know that you thought it was okay to write: "Get off your fucking phone, I am paying you hundreds of dollars an hour." in a public venue.

Also, I am not five; I don't think there is a villain in every story. In this case, it sounds like an interaction where two people were unable to politely interact with one another. To me this is not an endless pit of blame, but an amazing opportunity to learn so that our future interactions can be healthier.

A villain deserves punishment. An adult, who may have made a mistake, can learn and improve his behaviour.

I prefer to think of all of us as adults, learning, wanting to be more fulfilled, wanting to get closer to one another.

Unlike you, perhaps, when I am faced with this, instead of quietly suffer the rudeness inflicted on me for two hours and later come to a public forum and write what I kept thinking all that time (Get off your fucking phone, I am paying you hundreds of dollars an hour), I find it much more efficient, more humane and more conducive to healthier relationships to breathe, relax, remind myself that this is not a personal affront, make a joke of it, and gently, kindly ask if he could put his phone away. Remind him that I rather spend time with him (her/them) uninterrupted. If the response is positive, I gladly remain and enjoy the interaction. If the response is negative, I politely explain I cannot bear this, and leave.

I don't think it is okay to -even think- bitch, get off your phone. I know as a fact that whatever I think, I always clearly express through my behaviour and gestures, whether I verbalize it or not. I also know that if I am comfortable coming to a public forum and write such things, it is very likely that I was thinking precisely that for the whole duration of the interaction. I think it is very possible my escort heard the message loud and clear.

This is not to excuse his behaviour or exempt him of his blame. Again, I personally I find his behaviour extremely rude.

I realize my view is not the norm; you can notice that many posts on this thread excitedly applauded people being rude to the offenders. We live in the culture of rudeness. This is a fact, but I am here trying to posit that more rudeness will not end rudeness; only kindness and healthy communication will.

I absolutely agree. Trying to change someone's behaviour is impossible.

There is; however, another option which is infinitely more efficient: one can -through one own's behaviour- inspire the behaviour of others.

Through kindness, politeness, compassion and effective communication one is able to -sometimes- help the other see a different way to behave and possibly inspire them to try out this behaviour.

If you read my second and third post carefully you will see that I am not trying to make an apology for anyone, not even myself. I find this behaviour appalling. I am not minimizing the rudeness of answering one's phone during a human interaction (paid or unpaid) what I wanted to bring light to was what I found equally appalling, which is the language used by the original poster.

Two wrongs don't make a right and vice versa.

Worse I bet you the type who cant even be wrong but if you reread your comment before you do in fact sound a bit like an apologist...(you are defending the holder of the cell yet attack the poster for using a curse word)....I got a word for you, damn diva.

My extremely obnoxious, spoiled, entitled sister-in-law did the same thing in a bookstore once. As she browsed the books, she had a very long, loud, inane phone conversation with one of her equally entitled gal pals (think Kardashians!). The owner of the bookstore finally went to her and said sternly "GET OFF THE PHONE OR LEAVE" and the other customers applauded. Sister-in-law gave the oh so intelligent comeback, "This is a free country. I can talk on my phone if I want to." To which a little boy of about 8 replied, "NO YOU CAN'T, BITCH!!!" I wanted to adopt him. Although, I'd probably have had to wash his mouth out with Dove.

The parents of the eight year old deserve a award...made me smile thank you. This is were the customer was wrong thank you for that story!

If you're not going to answer it why not just turn it off? A phone that keeps vibrating during a session can be just as irritating when one is trying to relax while getting a massage. Also as a masseur can you really say that hearing your phone vibrate during a session doesn't cause you to be slightly distracted thereby taking you out of the moment or losing your rhythm?

Agreed turn the thing off one less nasty EMF to think about and during a massage its more about healing and therapy than anything else.

I agree if it is a short two hour session turn it off...it can wait but if its an overnight or weekend then arrange a agreed time and amount of time for the escort to answer e-mail and phone calls and whatever else that is needed in that area but that is understandable after all there running a business here.

"Broad-minded" refers to a person who is very tolerant and accepting of other people, new concepts, and different viewpoints. If you think about the word "broad" meaning "wide" or "large," you can imagine that a person whose mind (or their brain) is very broad (or "large" or "wide") might not be able to fit inside of their head. That could conjure up the image of that person's brains spilling out of their ears because it can't fit inside of their head.

As @corymonroe mentioned, a more contemporary joke substitutes "open-minded" for the idiom "broad-minded." Frankly, I don't think "open-minded" works as well.

On a side note, this reminds me of a guy I knew several years ago. He was from Switzerland and spoke perfect English with absolutely no discernable accent. You would never know he was not a native American English speaker unless he told you. Unless, of course, someone used an idiom or slang. He would freeze because he had no idea what they were talking about.

Having been in a similar position as the OP I can understand the anger and frustration one experiences when the person we see doesn't give us their undivided attention. I also read Juan's first post a couple of times, and gained some insight on how to proceed in the future.

Going forward I will convey that I would like their undivided attention, and ask that they please silence or turn off their phone prior to starting a session with me.

Amen I think escorts think its about money only like Pope Juan there...It is not only about money escorts dont understand men who are clients are spending something else...time because some might only have a small window to see a escort and express the homosexual side because there married. I wish others would understand that time is more valuable than money because frankly it might be another year before the client even has the opportunity again.

I've had a client Texting/Talking the ENTIRE time we were at Dinner. Literally 20 Minutes of us just meeting...

I've had TWO Clients looking at Grindr/Craigslist while I was with them. The second one was In his Early 20's and his words Verbatim "You're leaving Tommorow so I'm gonna keep the momentum going".... The First was Older...I just dont think I was his cup of tea. But he asked me to stay the night even tho we agreed to 3 hours.....? I dont know but It DOES happen to all of us!

Sidenote: If I were a client you can bet your ass I'd be getting every dollars worth and not on the phone/internet etc.

welcome back Jock :D You've been silent or gone for awhile :D Glad to see your still around :D

Many years ago, when only Doctors and Hookers had portable phones.....in a movie theater on third Avenue in NYC, someone's phone rang. They answered it and talked for a while then hung up. A few minutes later the phone rang again and the person, again, answered it. A 6'4," well-developed man, went over and grabbed the phone out of their hand and threw it across the theater. Everyone applauded! Unfortunately this was only the start of the 'damn' "my phone is more important than anyone around me" era. If I am out with someone and they start with the cel phone, I get up and leave. In the same vein, when someone is more than 15 minutes late (for a second time), I leave.

This year, as usual, I am hosting my family for Easter Dinner (on Saturday). All of my great nieces and nephews, they are all in the twenties and thirties, are aware of my policy that is if they are found texting on talking on their phones they will politely be asked to leave. It happened only ONCE a number of years ago. Now at this family gathering we act like a family and talk with each other face to face. Interestingly the nieces and nephews seem to enjoy themselves and keep returning year after year -- maybe it's the free food.

If after reading my posts you still insist I am defending the rude escort, then it is clear your reading comprehension is lacking. Again you resort to name calling instead of using an adult argument. So be it. I cannot engage in any further discussion with you. Best of luck, my man!

Funny. I suspected that is what it originally meant but found it really hard to understand how this applied in this case and how this would be a bad thing...

If I am excessively open minded because I think we all wish we would get together with love, care, respect, consideration and empathy, if I am wishing we all learn better ways to communicate with one another, leaving blame and guilt in the past and focusing on the opportunities to grow, if it is excessive to expect people will treat me with the same respect with which I treat them... Officer, arrest me. I am guilty as charged.

I know some people not only don't want this, but feel respect as an attack, I try not to take it personally when people are being mean deliberately (it is more about them than it is about me), and I am more than willing to disengage from such interactions, but...

Yeah, sue me; I am convinced we are all craving some love, kindness and being seen.

May my brains fall out of my skull, then.

I don't mind that Juan often refers back to himself. He is only drawing from his own personal and vast experience. He is using what he knows to respond to posts.

Your right im sure there will always be the exception to the rule of course without question but for most escorts i think it may be hard to understand the concept of time for a married man

I'm curious, am I the only one who thinks that a meeting with Juan would be uplifting but one with MGTOW_Tx would be challenging? Don't get me wrong, I have enjoyed reading both of their comments in here.

I think he would be wonderful and possibly wonderfully fake but that said I am me and I am a gentleman though I accept my flaws and am very open about it and that might not be popular but at least i put out there for everyone to see and i dont lift my self up thinking how wonderful i am because im just like everyone else...just another average joe

If you wanted a fantasy id say go to Juan but if you wanted a gentleman who is a man then you would come to me.

I am glad you are enjoying my style because it was my hope to bring some life back in this place and frankly express myself as well.
