Shocking footage has emerged showing a matador being gored by a bull — and ending up with its horn up his backside.

Antonio Romero was horrifically gored during a bout with the furious beast in Mexico City on Monday.

The matador ended up with the bull’s horn some 11 inches up his rectum, causing “severe” injuries.

The stomach-churning clip shows Romero seemingly in control as he goads the animal with a red cloth, called a muleta. But something goes wrong as he tries to get the bull to pivot around him. The angry beast rears up, catching him on the arm and knocking him off balance.

As Romero stumbles back in an effort to avoid the bull’s deadly horns, the animal throws off the muleta and homes in on its helpless target. Now, with its tormentor in its sights, the bull takes its terrible revenge.

It mercilessly attacks him, digging in its horns and rolling him across the ground. The goring only ends when other bullfighters come to their colleague’s aid and distract the animal.

Romero reportedly was rushed to the hospital for urgent treatment of horrific injuries to his rectal area. It is not known if he has been discharged yet.

Footage of a similar incident was widely shared after a man was attacked by a bull in Salamanca, Spain, earlier this year.

The horrific video shows the man being gored and tossed around like a rag doll during the Carnival of the Bull.

Old expression in my home: Sometimes you get the bull and sometimes you get the horns.

I know this is an old custom but it is one with which they can do away, as far as I am concerned.

Never understood the attraction for bullfighting or running with the bulls. Apologies for coming off harshly, but I reserve my sympathy and empathy for those who experience misfortune from unpredictable circumstances.

It's a bit strange to read that the "shocking" bit of this story isn't torturing an animal to death but getting attacked in the process. I guess sadism is ok if you can turn it into a flashy profession. o_O

The bulls who are used for bullfighting live for 5 years in a field, mating and enjoying life as close as possible to nature, on the contrary the ones who are used for ham and other products only live 1 year a fenced area. Yes, the bulls are teased and attacked and they also defend themselves like they did in this case.

Do you eat chicken or pork? Pigs live confined in "gestation crates" which in some cases drives them mad.

This is a picture from a Spanish pig farm, what do you think is more humane?

I think you already posted that in another thread where I popped up... it never gets old though.

For someone who I'm sure would call himself an animal lover (you post about them a lot, lovingly), it seems pretty hypocritical not to be at least a vegetarian also. (I was one for many years before I became a vegan)

I'll keep voicing my opinion in threads, and you (and others) can keep chiming in about my outspokenness on this issue.

At least I stand for something - and act in a way that is consistent with my beliefs.

You can be a dog/cat/pet lover and still understand slaughtering herd animals for protein.

(Pssst: ham doesn't come from bulls. It comes from a pig's rump.)

Good for you, welcome to voice whatever you want on here.

I personally will go on eating protein from animals.

Yes ham usually comes from pigs but in Spain the leg of bulls are cured and becomes ham, the one that is served with tapas.

Ummmm, you sure?? Iberico and jamon Serrano usually served with Tapas are pigs/hogs. The most expensive ones are fed acorns improve their flavor
