My experience is only as a tourist but I did not find the cost of living to be anything positive at all. Maybe that's just because of where I stay and play. Most definitely visit before you move and visit in the summer as you say... the heat and humidity will be an eye opener. To practice, you can hang out in a steam room for a week or two ;). I do like the area near Tulane and Loyola along St Charles and over by the Audubon Park and Zoo, myself.

I grew up in NJ and lived in Manhattan without AC, so I am familiar with 90 degree heat and 87% humidity (at night!) I admit Seattle has me spoiled. Will have to adjust. Apartment rents in NO are almost 40% lower than for something comparable in Seattle. Thanks for the neighborhood suggestions.

Is there really a shortage of clientele ? Or are the clientele the party, beer-drinking, throwing-up-in-the-gutter type of tourists (or, "mom and dad" as I call them).

Well, I meant locals who hire locally, but you're absolutely right in that most tourists are interested in different pleasures (if you can call it that). There are a few escorts who travel here, especially during Carnival or Southern Decadence, and I when I have asked them about traveling here (or others that don't) their responses tend to be one of two things. First, like everyone else who visits New Orleans, working is the last thing they want to do when they're here, so many don't advertise. (I once ran into the late, great Arpad Miklos and his partner on the St. Charles streetcar, both looking every inch the tourist with their camera slings, water bottles and fanny packs.) And second, they tell me the clients here are pretty flaky, and I have no trouble believing it. Eccentricity is not just tolerated but cultivated here, and of course the city is traditionally and staunchly Roman Catholic, and there's a history of guilt and shame that goes with that. I can't count the number of older men who are still closeted, or have an "arrangement" with their wives, or waited until the kids were grown and in college to come out. I suspect there are no shortage of young men here whose favors are readily obtained, but in strictly a hush-hush, wink-wink, who-you-know kind of way (like just about every other desirable commodity in this city).

Lower Garden District, Uptown, Treme and Freret Street corridor areas are all areas where you can find one bedroom rentals from 2500 to 1200 per month.

Yes to all, though the Treme is recently gentrified and - like the Marigny - suffers from some discord between long-time locals and arrivistes.

Absolutely. The University district, Riverbend and Oak Street corridor - collectively called Carrollton - is a great neighborhood with lots of shops, restaurants, etc. but still not at all commercially over-run. (Guess where I live?)

You say that now, but it lasts from March to November, and it's relentless. Except for the hurricanes. There's a reason we move so slowly.

I live 75 miles notthwest of New Orleans and have all of my 53-year life. I've hired exclusively in New Orleans for 14 years. I've had year-long dry spells wherein I would not GET paid to meet with New Orleans listed escorts; however, for the last eight months I've been fortunate enough to have TWO whom I love meeting.

In fact, even as I type this, I am checked into a New Orleans hotel, and the three of us will be hooking up together before I check out tomorrow. I've reviewed both of them so, while I can't speak for others entailing the present market in the Bug Easy, for me, it has soared to an all-time high. I hope it stays this great for my own situation, but I've learned to realize things can change on a dime.

Hope everyone who does visit NO can derive as much fulfillment as I have the last few months!

I see what you mean. The NYC area can be every bit as brutal in the summer as Atlanta or Southern Florida, but not generally for so long or so often. I had a NYC friend who grew up in St. Louis. He said NY was bad, but St. Louis was worse being in the Mississippi River valley. From my readings, the university district in NO sounds attractive. I have a feeling I will wind up in the suburbs which is OK. I no longer need to be in the center of everything if I can still access all that from not too far away.

Just letting everyone know I had another fantastic time. If they are your type, I highly recommend Big Easy Stud, https://rent.men/BigEasyStud (Ty on the review page) and Jake Willis, https://rent.men/JakeWillis. I LOVE having BOTH of them in the same room with me as was the case today and for the last few months since they've been on the NO escort scene.

I loved NO as a tourist. Also as a foodie.

Ive heard San Francisco and New Orleans compared relative to the escort scene by 2 escorts. (Years ago, pre-Katrina)

Both wondered if they were mediocre escorting cities because the people are very self indulgent, and in an extremely permissive environment. In other words, it eliminates the segment of hiring clients seeking things less available to them without paying, or on the down-low for fear of discovery. And add in the other tourist distractions

So, I lucked out apparently, and did just have a really great escort experience in New Orleans with AndreNola. And contrary to some of the other threads, he did not seem to be a meth user. (I checked his teeth and his entire body. No telltale signs of meth abuse. haha)

So if anyone is down in New Orleans, I recommend looking him up and messaging me if you want details.

He is a good kid!

I suppose I take it a little personally when people trash-talk New Orleans; it’s been my home for over 40 years. I must iterate what others have said: if you come here and never leave the Quarter, then you really have a very narrow view on which to judge the city.

Agree with everything you said Julius, with a couple of minor exceptions. Yes, New Orleans is generally poor as per capita income goes, and is also a small city, though the region is substantial enough, but not enough to support a permanent "top notch" escort base. But I have said this before: N.O. is a major tourist & convention destination, disproportionate for its size. In 2016 we had over 3 million people pass through town, all with ready cash. I assume

that some of them are gay, bi, or curious. That's what perplexes me about our dearth of an escort scene (or club scene for that matter). The numbers and $ are there, and pretty constant, though transient.

Just an aside, I'm pretty sure Joey Stephano escorted here, or perhaps hustled is a more accurate description, in the early 80s, and I know Christian Fox did.

I agree that the escort scene is surprisingly bleak here. When I was much younger (back before the internet, in what Bambi Lake called “the golden age of hustlers”) there were plenty of eager guys here to pass some time with; I remember a beautiful kid Donnie with almond-shaped eyes and a dragon tattoo that coiled around his torso and down one leg. But that was a long time ago, and things have definitely changed. AIDS was a factor, and so was the oil bust, and so was Katrina. My own two cents is that nowadays there’s simply not the clientele to support a good escort scene; New Orleans proper is actually quite small, and it’s certainly not wealthy. So now If I’m going to hire, I prefer to do it with well-known, top-notch guys rather than take a chance on something less than stellar, and that means going out-of-town.

That said, it has become my personal mission to nag, tempt, cajole, coerce, seduce and otherwise convince Tristan Baldwin to get his fine self down to New Orleans at least once. He’s shown me around both Boston and L.A., and I am determined to return the favor.

No. They're wrong. Tell them to come on down. :-) Actually, I really don't think that's at all accurate.

BTW, there's a name given to local men who are married w/ children who are on the d l, sometimes laughably so. They're often rich and "prominent", and they've been a constant part of the population generation after generation. We call them " New Orleans straight".

I've been puzzled as to why NO has so few companions given the large numbers of tourists who visit and it's wonderfully indulgent and decadent atmosphere.

Is there really a shortage of clientele ? Or are the clientele the party, beer-drinking, throwing-up-in-the-gutter type of tourists (or, "mom and dad" as I call them).

You would think that with a large number of younger guys working in restaurants and bars with flexible schedules that there would be plenty of opportunities.

I used to frequent Orleans on a monthly basis, before Katrina. I love New Orleans. I love the food, I love the entertainment. Before Katrina, there used to be good dancers at oz, and the pub. I have heard things have changed. Not for the better. I've been to Mardi Gras and Southern decadence. The one gripe I always heard from dancers, and a lot of them were available for privates. Was that too many people were partying drinking and doing drugs. And not paying attention to them. I think, that's part of the problem with New Orleans. These people go there to eat drink and be merry. And I think, that gets in the way of the escort scene.

Are there any that people would recommend in New Orleans?

Corner Pocket. One of the last hustler bars left in the US. (maybe the last?) Plenty of G4P guys. Many. Every young guy there. All the bar is. Some are nice. Lots of traveling thru hustlers. Always crowded.

Some high class trade at Oz.

There's more than just RentMen. I'll take escorts in the flesh anytime.

How are the bars if you're neither black nor white?

Should I not even risk it?

I certainly apologize if that has led to actual problems for you in the past, but you shouldn't let that limit you (am a bit surprised you seem to let it)......forge ahead!
