I've been male for 74 years which means I've been in thousands of mens' rooms around the world, but I've never seen a glory hole! Have you? Gay porn is full of GH's and it's not that I am attracted to the idea of sucking anonymous cock- no really! I'm not (blush). I just wondered about the location and etiquette of Glory Holedom. Do you pay? Where are they found? Who determines fellatee and fellator? Porn shops with video booths in the back are a great place to find glory holes. This is one way an encounter can take place. There are variations on the theme. A guy waits in a booth until another guy goes into the adjoining booth. The occupants check each other out through the hole, and one or both will expose and stroke himself. If the giver likes what he sees, he will put a couple of fingers (or his tongue) through the hole and motion for the other guy to offer up his member. Alternately, the receiver may take the lead and present his gift without waiting for a proper invitation to the party.

 

Most of the porn shops where I live have closed. The once predominately gay part of town has gentrified. What used to be adult book stores are now coffee shops or restaurants. I saw one in a service station bathroom on a recent drive from Scotland to London. That was the first I had seen in a public bathroom. I'm told there are some in more remote and thus less well maintained public toilets in the U.K. too.

 

I have been quite disappointed by how obvious cottaging has become here. I used public toilets near Carnaby Street a couple of times, and they were packed with guys obviously cruising each other. Only one urinal was available, and there were guys standing watching the urinals without any other obvious reason to be there. I'm amazed that the police and/or the council haven't cracked down.

I don't think I've ever seen one in a rest stop. I saw plenty in adult video arcades, but it's been decades since I've been in one of those, or looked for glory hole sex. It was an okay outlet when I was closeted & terrified, but now, it just doesn't appeal to me - even the porn scenes involving them generally leave me cold. I guess I'm just finicky :-)

Another place where they were common was in men's rooms in heavily used public transportation stations. In fact, I made my first sexual contact in the men's room of the Port Authority of New York bus terminal during the Eisenhower administration. However, I haven't seen a glory hole outside of porn in a very long time.

Just as well. Some of those holes look to have splintery, jagged edges. Perhaps they are for the masochists seeking relief. You know, after consideration, the idea of putting my cock through a hole in a wall where I can't see it does not seem sexy.

There was a lot of crackdown on public sex in the early days of the AIDS epidemic, and not just on bathhouses. Glory holes got a fair amount of attention too. I recall stories of guys carving their own glory holes only to come back later to find them boarded up.

 

In those days there was a large porn shop on I-70 in rural PA that had great glory holes (and some fantastic cock suckers). On my last trip through they were boarded up.
