That's a great idea, thanks! I just googled and DC even has a gay basketball league. I had no idea.

There are now two DC "gay-friendly" rugby teams, I think one of which has more straight people and the other more strongly gay-identified. I believe the roots of the schism are that the original team started during the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy and had a lot of service members, so for plausible deniability they couldn't really identify too loudly as a gay team...then not too long after DADT repeal there was a break in the club. (The predominantly gay rugby teams play in their local union, as opposed to an entirely gay league, because there simply aren't the numbers for that - hence the "gay-friendly" label as opposed to "gay").

But taking up rugby at 40 is not something to undertake lightly, if basketball is your thing go for it. But the rugby social events are fun.

Hell, even straight rugby teams tend to have a lot of bi-"ish" guys. It's a sport that has a lot of homoerotic hazing rituals in its tradition...

Sounds good. I have played rugby but not lately. I'll start checking things out, maybe try a few things.

Hmm, sounds like what I did when I was getting up the courage to hire an escort.

If I start pursuing a social life with men, there'll be a huge learning curve. I've never been to a gay bar, never been on a date with a guy, never flirted with one. And I don't know how one identifies a top or a bottom socially, or even if one does. I assume it gets discussed before you get to the bedroom?

Are you coming to Palm Springs for the yearly org... party? That might be a way to dip your "foot" in the water.

I just reread through this thread and am blown away by the wit, the sympathy, and the kindness from all in response to my comical little family episode, and the less comical aspect of what surrounds it. I never dreamed in the time I was lurking that opening up about my life situation would bring me so much support and good advice, and so much humor.

And so many new wardrobe choices!

I will never have the privilege of being a father. But it sounds like you have done an excellent job in raising your sons and have a great family. May your sons always go from strength to strength.

From what you have told use of yourself, the white T shirt seems appropriate as does the black one. Black for home wear and white for the clubs. I know I would appreciate knowing that a man is going to bend.

... But I couldn't find a shirt that says"I may lift my legs, but I never break."

Subtle...but you get the drift...:D I'm adding it to my cart. I may go broke buying this new Tshirt wardrobe. ;)

Bent over standing is not my favorite position, if the top is good my knees buckle. But I couldn't find a shirt that says"I may lift my legs, but I never break."

I find you can say "I can put my feet behind my ears and take a good pounding" with your eyes, and leave t-shirt space for other witticisms.

And let's get it right. You are not going for something like this:

Personally, I leave no room for doubt :

I had a talk on the phone with my older son at Fordham. The twins had told him the whole story of the condoms and my reaction. He had never been given a box when he was on the team because he hadn't had a serious relationship during the season, but he said he'd chipped in for several. I asked if the coaches knew about this tradition and he said, "Oh Lord, I hope not." But he also asked me what my first reaction had been. I couldn't very well tell him that my first reaction was "Hey! That's the brand DavidSF used when I hired him!" So I told him I was a little startled to see them but decided just to ask, and did. When I mentioned the note they left signed "Your Virgin Sons" his reaction was, "Those bozos."

My father went to the Naval Academy and was career Navy, I'm a military brat, and I work for the Navy Department as a civilian. Of all his grandchildren only my one boy has wanted to follow his granddad to Annapolis. The drive has been there since childhood. He's also applying to NROTC programs at other colleges, but I'm praying he gets in, he wants it so much. There's something about that dream that is very powerful.

Just thought I'd pass along that my son got the word that he passed the initial screening by the admissions board and is academically qualified for USNA. He'd already passed the medical and physical fitness tests. Now we have to hope for the Congressional nomination, and then he goes into the pool for the final cut. lots of hoops still to jump through, but it was a happy house last night.
