Oddly, I think I embraced team sports because even when I was too young to understand, I knew I was different, and didn't want to be. So I played and practiced hard to prove I was "normal." By high school I knew what it was but damn it, I'm not queer, I play varsity basketball! I think I fooled everybody but myself.

 

And paradoxically it gave me opportunities to hang out naked and shower with guys. Which also "proved" I was straight, except for the times I was nearly betrayed by my dick. Boners made it pretty hard to lie to myself, but I did for as long as possible.

Interesting... Doesn't this kill the argument about gays in the locker room? That is what the homophobes argue; that the gays will ogle them and get aroused. Like you, I played plenty of team sports and loved the showers. But I honestly can't remember getting wood around any of my teammates.

I really never ogled the other guys, and would hardly even let myself look at them. But no way not to see a bit, and while it wasn't always a problem, sometimes it was. Mainly in the early-teen rampaging hormones years. In college I don't remember it being an issue, so maybe I'd gotten used to it.

Basketballer, teen age boys get erections all the time. You were one, so you know first hand. I believe most straight guys could care less if they get an erection in the shower, especially if they have a nice dick. Those with same sex leanings who are timid about revealing that to the world, however, do not want to give themselves away and feel that an erection might expose them physically and sexually. So when you get the opportunity, go back and tell that 16 year old you that erections in the shower mean nothing more than that the equipment is working the way it should. For me, right now, I wish I could get an erection in the shower, I want to be a grower and a shower.

That's 100% what was going on, except it wasn't just the world I was trying to hide it from. I was fervently denying it to myself at that point. So getting hard with the guys, whether naked in the shower or not, was very perplexing. But I can look back with amusement at it all. And, thanks to my overcompensating for my doubts, I think I probably carried it off, I doubt if anybody I knew back then suspected me.
