I went to The Abbey in WeHo this past weekend with a couple of gay guys, as well as a straight friend of mine, as they were there to pick up a set of keys from someone else that was heading there. Of course my straight friend went to the bar to get a drink, and to his surprise, a guy from his gym down in Orange County came up to him and asked him about being there. He told me afterwards that he didn't really know what to say, as now that guy thinks he might be gay, and might feel weird seeing him at the gym again!

proud of you, wish I had the guts.

Wow. I went to my first gay bar when I was 18, and that was decades ago, before there were any laws protecting gays. I was more nervous about the fake ID than being in a gay bar. And I was far more nervous at hiring my first escort than going to a gay bar. That was in the olden days when one found escorts looking at the pictures of the ads in Frontier magazine. If all of these gay escort sites get pulled down, maybe we'll have to go back to those ads in the weekly gay newspapers, again...

Well, being at a Gay Bar does not make you gay. They do not put gay juice in the drinks or do they?

Easy response--"I'm the token breeder tagging along on an expedition of some gays"

I spent many hours in gay bars in my youth, when they were the only public places where gays could openly socialize--at least, until the police raided, after which they would usually be closed, and a new one would open somewhere else. I assume that they still don't get busy until quite late--in NY and Philly it was normally well after 11pm--so I would take a nap for a few hours before I got ready to go out. Serious decisions about whom to go home with generally weren't made until closing time approached, which was 2am in Philly and 4am in NYC in those days.

My first visit to a gay disco was funny. I was with a date and couldn't understand why he wanted to watch a movie after dinner and before we would leave for the disco. I waited and waited and FINALLY we left around 10 PM. And the place was only half full. I soon learned about the late hours and also took a nap before going out.

My first gay bar visit was during the Summer of my 17th bday. My buddy and I scouted the place everyone was talking about, and I eventually f&cked one of the bouncers so I could wiggle our way in without cover charge & waiting in line. Slutty? The DJ called it entrepreneurial when he gave us a lift after finding us waiting at the bus stop for the 5am bus. I think that was the beginning of my own sexual revolution (or devolution?)
