I've resigned myself to the fact that any scoring with younger guys will be within the escort world. It doesn't make me happy, but it's a fact of life. I guess I find it really sad that pleasant non-sexual conversations on those apps cease immediately once age is revealed.

 

It's the nature of the apps. I go through this all the time with a (young) Persian friend of mine who is honestly looking for friends and not hook ups. I keep telling him that when someone says they are open to friendship, what they really mean is, "let's fuck and maybe we can be friends afterwards." He's really a cute guy and gets all kinds of messages. Which promptly end as soon as it becomes obvious he is serious about the friendship thing. It's a different issue, but the same mentality.

That's what hook-up apps are for - hooking up. If you're really just looking for friendly conversation and nothing more, there are plenty of other venues to find it than on grindr or scruff.

I don't really agree. It doesn't need to be a lack of self-esteem that makes you acknowledge that the vast majority of young guys are not interested in older guys. So if your idea of success is scoring with young guys, outside the escorting world, it's just a fact of life that you have to come to terms with. I think what's really key is to not let that be the determining factor in your happiness or self-satisfaction. Those are the guys who make themselves miserable and let it impact their self-esteem.

 

My point had to do with ageism, the worship of youth, and close-mindedness by everybody, young and old. I don't think we disagree on the current realities as much as you may think, as I agree the majority (not willing to categorize further without actual data beyond personal observation) of young guys are not interested in guys over a certain age, whatever that age might be.

 

I agree with the rest of your statement without reservation.

It has always been that way. Hookup apps just make the process more efficient. Guys cruising parks, restrooms and rest stops on freeways were looking to hookup. They had anonymous sex with each other without even exchanging names, sometimes without saying a word to each other, and then went their separate ways never to see each other again. If a hookup is not the kind of encounter one is looking for, then a hookup app isn't a good tool for meeting people. I don't ever look for hookups. I'm always about a connection, so I stay completely away from scruff and grindr. Since I'm not looking for connection in places where I'm not likely to find it, I'm not frustrated.

As a gent who is 55 - I hire for the ease of hiring - also the benefit of getting something that works for you (well most of the time). I would much prefer to spend a few hours enjoying myself that hours spent in a bar or on an app only to be rejected.

 

Having said that as a large caucasian male I find that some Asian gentleman are very attracted to me. Total opposite of them I guess. BUT that works when I travel on my own in Asia

I'm a more mature (I prefer the term mature to older) guy and I find it difficult to find mature guys (on dating sites) who want to date/hook up with other mature guys. I find a great majority want much younger guys.

Have you come across a site for mature guys looking for guys there own age? I've got a buddy that was asking me about this.

In all seriousness, great discussion in this thread. I've been a daddy-chaser since I was a teenager, and I can't see myself ever stopping. In a community that worships youth, it's important that we not forget a) the sacrifices older men made so us young'uns could have the freedom we do today, and b) regardless of age, we're all human. Discounting anyone for their age is silly...the best sex I've ever had was a man in his mid-50s I was seeing for a few years, and the single most intense session I've ever had was with a client in his seventies. Don't knock till you try it! ;)

Anyone else notice that while the escort quoted said most of his clients are older men, he also said they're not unattractive or desperate and see escorts because it's convenient? It bugs me every time I see a post predicated on the thought that older men are unattractive and that's why they hire or that escorts are acting the entire time because their clients who are older are just not attractive.

 

I'm not denying the effects of aging, but damn. Talk about lack of self-esteem. It's not just one poster, it's many, and thinking that looking and being young is the key to sexual success is not conducive to happiness and self-satisfaction as one ages.

 

 

Even those who think they "need" to see escorts aren't being truthful with themselves. It may be true that they don't like their options, but they do have options other than to hire escorts. "Needing" to hire escorts actually means that the person sees it as the most appealing option.

I remember the exact moment when I realized older men are hot (and underrated!) I was watching late night tv, Stargate SG1 on Syfy, and all it took was one look at Richard Dean Anderson! He was 55 at the time and as hot as a firecracker! :D I hope I age as well as he did!!

I can empathize with "no one old enough to be my dad." If my father were still alive, he would be 112.

I have no issue with a twink saying that. You expect it. My problem is with the mature guys saying the same damn thing except by dad they're meaning guys their own age or even remotely near it. We have a huge problem with ageism and it's not just coming from the twinks. Too many gay men living like Peter Pan and unless your David Geffen it ain't pretty.:eek:

Unfortunately, he stopped aging well. Recent pics show him having put on a LOT of weight.

It's amazing how old you start looking when you lose your neck. He had a good jawline before. A neck lift would take off a decade on his age.

 

That brings back memories. I love those shows. Although my favorite was Stargate Atlantis.
